11 best pool safety alarms
Pool safety alarms are devices designed to enhance the safety of swimming pools and prevent accidents, particularly involving young children. These alarms are typically related to safety products and are commonly found in the category of parts and accessories for pools and hot tubs. Here's what you should know about pool safety alarms:
Purpose: Pool safety alarms are used to alert pool owners or guardians when there is unauthorized access to the swimming pool. This is crucial for preventing drowning accidents, especially involving children and pets.
Types of Pool Safety Alarms:
- Gate Alarms: These alarms are installed on gates or doors leading to the pool area. They sound an alert if someone opens the gate or door, providing an early warning that someone is entering the pool area.
- Perimeter Alarms: Perimeter alarms use sensors placed around the pool's perimeter. They detect motion or disturbances in the water and sound an alarm if someone or something enters the pool.
- Floating Alarms: These alarms float on the pool's surface and use sensors to detect water displacement. If a person or pet falls into the pool, the alarm is triggered.
- Wearable Alarms: Some pool safety alarms can be worn as wristbands or anklets by children. If the child enters the water, the alarm activates and alerts parents or guardians.
Audible Alerts: Most pool safety alarms emit loud, audible alerts when triggered. These alerts are designed to grab attention quickly, ensuring that adults are alerted to a potential pool-related emergency.
Battery or Electric-Powered: Pool safety alarms can be battery-powered or electrically connected to the home's electrical system. Battery-powered alarms are generally more versatile and easier to install.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance and testing of pool safety alarms are essential to ensure their proper functioning.Batteries should be replaced as needed, and sensors should be kept clean and free from debris.
Local Regulations: It's important to check local regulations and building codes regarding pool safety requirements. Some jurisdictions may mandate the use of specific types of pool safety alarms to prevent accidents.
Complementary Safety Measures: While pool safety alarms are effective tools, they should be used in conjunction with other safety measures such as pool fencing, covers, and proper supervision, especially when children are around.
In summary, pool safety alarms are vital components for enhancing pool safety and preventing accidents, particularly involving young children. They come in various types, are designed to detect unauthorized access to the pool, and provide audible alerts to ensure a quick response in case of emergencies. Regular maintenance and adherence to local safety regulations are essential when using pool safety alarms.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this alert you to a 6 pound dog falling in |
Answer: | I have 4C hair and it works great on my hair, without flakes or residue!...The key is to only use a small amount each time you use it. How I use this gel, is I first spritz my hair with a little water then I apply a small amount of gel in the palms of my hands and rub it through my hair and scalp....I repeat this process 2-3 times a week. I love this product because it's aiding in my hair growth! |
Question: | How does it connect to the alarm in the house |
Answer: | Hicks is not better than Murray's edges control.. I've purchased both products and Hick's is $16 in beauty supply stores here in Memphis... Should t more like $3.99...Hick's works more like jam because I still had to apply Murray's edge control over the Hick's edge control for my hair to lay down ...I have a nice grade of hair of a curly texture....don't waste your money on Hick's edge control... Murray's edge control is better .... |
Question: | does it have to be tethered ,or can it float free |
Answer: | They’re all the same product. The colors represent the different scents. I believe there are two different holds regular and extra. Otherwise, no difference. Only downside is it turns white after a day or two. I like others have recommended using a dark gel, or jam over it. It’s amazing for natural hair to hold it in place. |
Question: | Will it work if a small, 8-pound dog falls in |
Answer: | This is the only edge product I own that doesn't revert my edges. This stuff is thick and holds edges straight and slick. Use a little first and build as needed because it can go white very fast if you use too much. |

Sensitivity Adustment
Turning the black flotation base clockwise or counterclockwise raises or lowers the sensing ring with respect to the water. stops. Do not force it. This is the most sensitive position and the position that was used to pass ASTM testing. Moving the float from this position will no longer meet ASTM requirements The closer the sensing ring is to the water, the more sensitive the alarm. Turn the black flotation base gently clockwise until it.
Sensitivity Marks
The “Sensitivity Marks” can be used as a general indicator for the sensitivity position. Should the sensitivity need to be adjusted start making adjustments by turning the float only a ¼ turn at a time. Test the alarm after each adjustment. We do not recommend turning the float out more than three full turns.
Alarm Placement for pools 20x40 ft or smaller
One pool alarm can be used for all pool types. This includes aboveground, in-ground, inflatable and soft side pools.
Alarm Placement for pools larger then 20x40 ft
It is recommended that more than one alarm should be used in pools larger than 20x40 ft.
RECEIVER
Your receiver works with the pool alarm allowing you to monitor your pool from within your house. When the floating alarm is activated it sends a signal to activate the receiver.
Transmission Modes
The receiver has two modes of operation: Serial Number mode (SN mode) and ID mode. When the receiver is in SN mode it will accept the transmission of any Pool Patrol transmitter (this is the default setting). The serial number is common to all transmitters. When the receiver is in ID mode it will accept the serial number plus the ID number of the transmission. The ID number is unique to each transmitter.
RECEIVER PLACEMENT
It is best to place the receiver next to a window or wood door adjacent to the pool with-in 200 feet from the transmitter. Do not place the receiver near steel walls, cabinets, on or alongside an electrical appliance, such as a computer, or on a metal surface as this may affect signal reception. The pool alarm will not transmit its signal through the ground.

Question: | Does this have an alarm that activate in the home |
Answer: | Yes, there are two units with alarm. In house and in the pool also you are able to see the alarm with the APP. |
Question: | My pool is large: 25 x 40. If this floats to one end, and a toddler falls in on the other end, would it be less likely to detect it |
Answer: | That is a good question. I would almost be tempted to buy two and put them on both ends with that large of a pool. Our was an above ground pool (32 by 16) and we tied ours right by the ladder. It is super sensitive and would always go off when it rained hard. |
Question: | Will this alert you to a 6 pound dog falling in |
Answer: | Sadly I doubt it would- I believe it had to be like 19-25 pounds to sound the alarm. Can you install a gate? This is scary for you… I wish Good luck with your dog!! |
Question: | How does it connect to the alarm in the house |
Answer: | It connects through wifi to another transmitter you charge in house. It's really loud regardless. You won't miss the alarm. |
Question: | does it have to be tethered ,or can it float free |
Answer: | it comes with a long tether that can be easily shortened without cutting it, but you could let it float around without it. If it is free floating be sure it is alarming properly. Its alarm sensitivity is also very adjustable. Note: rain will also likely set it off. |
Question: | Will it work if a small, 8-pound dog falls in |
Answer: | I believe it will work. Our cats, 10# and 11# both fell in and it went off. Also, my husband forgot it was in and just dangled his feet and it went off. We have been really pleased with it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a small Yorkie about 8 lbs. If she slips in the water, not creating a big splash would the unit go off |
Answer: | I don't know if it will detect her going in I suspect no, but- it might once she starts splashing and moving in the water- When we put ours in it did not detect the waves created by a gallon jug of water from across the alarm dropped in about a foot above water level (so about 8-9 pounds) (but it did when we did 2 at same time) . The manual also notes that gradual water entry might not be detected. It would also be affected by size of pool and number of alarms. Their customer service is 800-242-7163- they might be able to tell you- or if they have other options |
Question: | What are the dimensions? What's the length of the arm that goes in the water, as measured from where the pool deck would be to the bottom of the arm |
Answer: | 9.5" x 11"From the deck, the arm goes 11" down. Adjust your water level to ensure that at least 2.5" of the arm are in the pool. |
Question: | Will this work with a Zodiac pool cleaner thats in motion 8 hours a day |
Answer: | I'm not familiar with the zodiac but I have a navigator pool cleaner that runs 9 hours and it has NOT triggered this alarm. This was one of my concerns that I researched in pool alarms. Hope that helps! |
Question: | Can this be used on a pool that has an electric cover |
Answer: | There is nothing operationally that would prevent that. But. You need at least 5 inches clearance between the deck and the bottom of the cover.... Not likely. But, it can be picked up easily when you decide to deploy the cover. If the cover is on... I assume you do not need the guard |

Product description
Along with a pool barrier and swimming instruction for your child, a pool alarm is an essential component of any pool safety plan. Be prepared and armed with the PoolEye Immersion Pool Alarm. Featuring the most accurate pool intrusion technology on the market for aboveground pools, you can rely on PoolEye for that added layer of pool protection. Plus, this battery-operated water motion detector is easy to install. It only takes about 10 minutes! The pool safety alarm features sub-surface wave detection, so there are fewer false alarms. Under water, the rudder switch inside the protective cage floats vertically, undisturbed by wind or rain on the surface. When an object enters the water and creates water movement, the rudder switch is moved off center and triggers the alarm. The 85 dB siren alerts when an object as light as 15 lb/7 kg is detected. This is a poolside alarm – the siren only sounds out of the main device. PoolEye is the only brand you need to give your family peace of mind when it comes to pool safety. Our affordable and accurate sub-surface wave detection alarms are third party tested for reliable performance. This water motion pool alarm is ideal for aboveground pools that measure up to 24’ round or 16’ x 32’.
- WATER MOTION SENSOR – Be prepared and armed with the PoolEye Immersion Pool Alarm. With its underwater motion sensor, PoolEye provides an extra layer of protection when it comes to pool safety.
- EASY TO INSTALL – The PoolEye Pool Alarm is battery powered and easy to install. With all hardware included, it quickly installs under the top ledge of steel wall pools. Plus, the adjustable sensitivity switch allows you to customize your experience.
- FEWER FALSE ALARMS – The water motion sensor features sub-surface wave detection that will not pick up movement from rain or wind, meaning there are fewer false alarms. The alarm is triggered when an object as light as 15 lb is detected.
- POOLSIDE SIREN – The PoolEye Aboveground Pool Alarm emits a loud 85 dB siren directly from the device that will notify any nearby adults of objects or people unexpectedly entering the water.
- POOLEYE – PoolEye is the only brand you need to give your family peace of mind when it comes to pool safety. Our affordable and accurate sub-surface wave detection alarms are third party tested for reliable performance.
User questions & answers
Question: | Not to many details provided on amazon...is this alarm simple to turn off when maintaining/ cleaning pool? Also, any indication when battery is dead |
Answer: | I'd have to see pictures of the door to be sure I'm offering a good suggestion. But, assuming the doors meet in the middle and slide away from each other into their pockets, my guess is that you would need to either order an additional sensor set from Poolguard or buy two complete alarms and use both sensor sets, one sensor set on each door, but then wire them both to the same alarm module on one side of the door or the other. Or you could put a complete separate alarm on each door but that would be a pain having to hit the button on both each time you go out or in. |
Question: | is there an alarm that hooks to ladder |
Answer: | The alarm is intended to be installed on the house door as is a requirement for many areas on edteruor door with direct access to the pool. The alarm will sound at the device itself. Let me know if you have any other questions. |
Question: | Does this work with an above-ground pool liner? Would the alarm go off at any movement of the liner |
Answer: | Perhaps you can ask the company directly. I have not returned this product. |
Question: | Can this be used in in ground pools |
Answer: | Sadly I doubt it would- I believe it had to be like 19-25 pounds to sound the alarm. Can you install a gate? This is scary for you… I wish Good luck with your dog!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Wouldca pool sweep set it off |
Answer: | The pool alarm is set off by the movement of the water. The tube is suggested to be adjusted to be 10cm (3.9") deep. If the water near the alarm is moved around that depth it will be set off. I would say yes the sucker can set off the alarm when in use. You would need to test with your specific pool to confirm if it is effected. |
Question: | I have an odd shaped pool. It is in the shape of a fidget spinner, so will this work on it or is this more for a normal shaped pool |
Answer: | This will work on any pool. The Pool Alarm offers sub-surface wave detection so the tube must be immersed 10cm deep. Entry into the pool will be detected by the Pool Alarm’s electronic sensor. |
Question: | How do you tell which of the 5 led lights are blinking on the receiver if the panel isnt labeled? i know its listed 1-5 but i cant tell if its |
Answer: | The green light will blink to let you know when it is armed. |
Question: | how many decibels is it. Local law must be at least |
Answer: | The alarm is 100 decibels. |
