12 best salt pools
Saltwater pools are a type of swimming pool that uses a salt chlorine generator to produce and maintain chlorine levels in the water. They have gained popularity as an alternative to traditional chlorine pools due to some distinct advantages. Here's what you should know about salt pools:
Salt Chlorine Generator: The heart of a saltwater pool is the salt chlorine generator, also known as a salt cell or salt chlorinator. This device converts salt (sodium chloride) into chlorine through a process called electrolysis. The chlorine produced is used to sanitize the pool water.
Lower Chlorine Odor and Irritation: Saltwater pools typically have lower levels of free chlorine, which can result in less chlorine odor and reduced skin and eye irritation compared to traditional chlorine pools.
Softer Water: Salt pools often have softer-feeling water due to the lower levels of certain chemicals found in traditional chlorine pools. Swimmers often describe the water as more pleasant.
Constant Chlorine Production: The salt chlorine generator continuously produces chlorine as needed, ensuring a more consistent and stable sanitizer level in the pool water.
Reduced Maintenance: While saltwater pools still require regular maintenance, they can be easier to manage compared to traditional chlorine pools. You won't need to handle and add chlorine tablets or liquid as frequently.
Initial Setup: Converting a traditional chlorine pool into a saltwater pool involves installing the salt chlorine generator and adding the appropriate amount of salt to the pool water. The initial setup may require professional assistance.
Salt Levels: It's crucial to maintain the proper salt levels in the pool water, usually within a specific range recommended by the manufacturer. Testing and adjusting salt levels is a routine part of salt pool maintenance.
Potential Corrosion: While salt pools can be gentler on swimmers' skin and eyes, they can be slightly more corrosive to certain pool equipment and materials, so it's important to choose appropriate materials for the pool and its surroundings.
Cost: The initial cost of installing a salt chlorine generator can be higher than traditional chlorine systems. However, over time, the reduced need for chlorine chemicals may offset this cost.
Compatibility: Salt pools may not be suitable for all types of pools or water features. It's important to ensure that your pool is compatible with a salt chlorine generator before making the switch.
Salt pools can provide a more pleasant swimming experience for many people due to their reduced chlorine odor and softer water. They do require some specific maintenance and consideration, but the benefits of lower skin and eye irritation, as well as reduced handling of chlorine chemicals, make them an attractive option for pool owners seeking a more comfortable and convenient swimming environment.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are hoses included |
Answer: | It came with what you see in the picture and was fully operational when I installed it. It was the panel and turbo cell chlorinator. |
Question: | What is the size of the hoses |
Answer: | This chlorinator plugs into a standard, 110Volt GFCI receptacle. (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) The flow sensor should keep it from coming on when your pump is off. |
Question: | Will this work on an intex 15x48? Will i need to buy attachments? This is a pump right |
Answer: | I'm not sure what the HP stands for, but the phone number for Hayward is (908) 355-7995. I'm sure they will know the answer. |
Question: | How will I know how long to runthe each day? Trial and error |
Answer: | Install the cell unit in a vertical position preferably on the pressure side of the pump just where the filtered water enters the pool, this way the internal part of the cell will stay full of water and not run dry. However if you mount the cell horizontally, then an air pocket can form during the time the pump is at rest ,and can cause the cell to overheat, therefore a flow control valve needs to be installed just before the the cell (between the cell and the output from the pump) these flow control valves are in fact a large volume check valve and will not let water flow backward away from the cell and will insure the cell stays full of water during pump off time. That said , if all the components in the pump system (pump, filter, cell and associated hosing ) are on a plane and level relative to one another so that during pump shut down water will not 'run down hill or away from the cell then the cell will remain totally full of water even if the cell is mounted horizontally with out a control check valve. My cell is mounted vertically at the pool input port and is about 10 ft from the pump output. The pump and sand filter tank are raised about 8 inches above the ground so that the hosing and all remain full of water even during long periods of pump in activity. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit in place of tcell |
Answer: | No, the Simple Cell is non-directional, so you can install it whichever way you like in the plumbing. |
Question: | Will this replace Polaris autoclear plus |
Answer: | Same problem. Cost me $31 to ship it back. Bought directly from The Pool Guy. They would not cover return shipping. Total BS. |
Question: | Is this compatible with pentair intellichlor |
Answer: | It could be a couple things, but you may simply need to re-calibrate the cell. Further troubleshooting tips can be found below: Installation issues? - Make sure the salt cell is seated securely inside the plumbing: The Simple Cell is the exact length as the previous Hayward/Goldline Salt Cell, and uses the exact thread specifications in order to fit in the existing unions. Upon installation be sure that your plumbing creates as snug of a fit as possible between the end of the salt cell, and the O-Ring inside the Union on your plumbing. Manually adjust your plumbing left or right if at all possible in order to create a tight seal inside the union. The watertight seal does NOT happen at the threads, rather it is in your plumbing created where the tip of the salt cell meets the O-Ring inside the union in your plumbing. If you continue to encounter a leak, you may need to replace the T-Cell O-Ring inside the union of your plumbing. - If you are installing Vertically in your plumbing also note that the weight of the Simple Cell will move toward the ground, so be sure to apply pressure upward when threading on the top union in order to create a tight seal with the plumbing. Incorrect readings? - Be sure the Simple Cell plug is fully inserted into the circuit board port: If you are receiving a salt level reading of 0 and the system is not generating chlorine, it could be that the Simple Cell is not fully plugged into your main circuit board. To ensure that this is not the case, first unplug the Simple Cell from your panel. Then remove the faceplate, and reinsert the plug into the correct port on the main circuit board making sure that all of the pins are correctly and fully lined up and inserted into the port on the main circuit board. Then place the faceplate back on the panel. - Be sure to allow time for Simple Cell to calibrate itself to your pool: When your old salt cell went bad, it was reading a much lower salt level than what was actually in your pool. Your system stored this incorrect information, so there is a good chance your system initially will display the same incorrect information as before. The Simple Cell will correct these false readings itself within 72 Hours with no further action on your part, however you can also recalibrate your salt system manually. Please refer to your owners manual for instructions on this process. - Be sure to accurately test your Salt Level for comparison: Often times because the salt level has not been read correctly for an extended period of time, salt may have been added or removed based on incorrect informaiton. It is best to have your salt level tested professionally at this point, usually at a local pool store. The system is only designed to work when your salt level is between 2600PPM - 3400PPM, so you may need to simply add or remove the salt in your pool in order for the Simple Cell to begin generating chlorine. If the salt level is outside of the designated range, it will shut down and prevent the Simple Cell from generating chlorine. - Configure your board for the correct T-Cell Size: If you were previously using a smaller T-Cell Size (T-9, T-5 or T-3 size cell) you will have to configure your circuit board for a T-15. Please refer to your owners manual for instructions on this process. |
Question: | Are the threads on this item compatible with the union nut from Jandy |
Answer: | Yes, the Simple Cell will directly replace your T-15 size salt cell that works with the AquaRite salt system PCB version r1.40. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Bought the T-9 and the cell won’t produce more than 2300ppm. Range is 2700-3400ppm. Why wont this cell produce more |
Answer: | It removed most of out deposits. With our water, they had gotten to be an issue. I did two applications. I think it’s a good enough product that your Pool tech or maintenance won’t recommend it since it dramatically reduces upkeep. |
Question: | My revision # is r 1.59. Can I assume this is plug and play |
Answer: | Yes I use cartridge filter system for my pool and it works great. If you are speaking of a cartridge for anything other than a pool then you would need to contact the manufacturer. |
Question: | my revision is 2.93 but it says can't be compatible with Hayward automation system what does that mean |
Answer: | Hello, The Scaletec would be better for removing calcium scale. We also suggest using a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar and using a scrub brush to scrub it off. For any further questions, please contact us at 888-881-4668. Thanks! |
Question: | I have t 1.59v on my control board. I want to replace my t15 with t9. I have 15000 gallons. Is this t9 compatible |
Answer: | Not sure. Used to help clean the chlorinator and pool. |

AquaChek 542228A Salt System Test Kit - Pack of 12
- AquaChek 542228A Salt System Test Kit
User questions & answers
Question: | Do these test for phos as well |
Answer: | Whether it is "supposed" to or not is not for me to know other than each and every time I have run the test it gets a little chunky - about like a curd of cottage cheese. |
Question: | Can someone explain if there is some trick to using these ? My readings with these are way off compared to getting it professionally tested |
Answer: | Yes, Bev, you simply take a small sample (approx. 10 ml) from the koi pond and then perform the test...it takes less than a minute and is easy to tell when you reach the endpoint. If I had a koi pond, this is the test I would use for accurate and easy salt level readings. And what citrus guy said is true also, in case you need to keep your salt levels below 200 ppm. You might also want to invest in an inexpensive handheld TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter. Adding any chemicals (salts, pH adjusters, etc.) to the water will increase its TDS, and I'm pretty sure that TDS is also related to osmotic pressure (gill stress & health). |
Question: | Is this kit for just saltwater pools or is there other stuff in here that doesn't pertain to saltwater testing |
Answer: | This is a drop based test kit. The instructions are very accurate and clear. You will have to swirl with one hand and add drops with another hand carefully. It is a wise idea to purchase the speed stir with magnetic bar (about $35). Mine has been around for 3 seasons and the batteries are still good. Instructions are here as follows: http://www.tftestkits.net/Test-Kit-Instructions-10.html Bottom TF-100 Instructions (same way) just different kit |
Question: | Do these strips require a digital reader |
Answer: | There are 456 drops in an ounce. This kit has 3/4 of an ounce of fluid. 3/4 times 456 = 342. If you average 15 drops (3000 ppm) per test than you can take 22 tests. If you average 20 drops per test than you can take 17 tests. |
