13 best pool shock
Pool shock is a chemical product commonly used in swimming pool maintenance. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of pool water by effectively killing bacteria, algae, and other microorganisms, as well as oxidizing organic contaminants. Here are some key points about pool shock:
Chlorine-Based: Most pool shocks are chlorine-based products. Chlorine is a powerful disinfectant that helps eliminate harmful microorganisms in pool water.
Types of Pool Shock: There are different types of pool shock available, including calcium hypochlorite, sodium dichlor, and lithium hypochlorite. Each type has its own advantages and is suitable for specific pool conditions.
Sanitization: Pool shock is primarily used for superchlorination, a process in which the chlorine level in the pool water is temporarily raised to a high level (shock level) to effectively kill bacteria and algae. This is typically done on a weekly or as-needed basis.
Algae Prevention: Regularly shocking the pool helps prevent the growth of algae, which can turn pool water green and cloudy.
Oxidation: Pool shock also serves as an oxidizing agent, helping to break down and remove organic contaminants such as sweat, oils, and sunscreen residues from the water.
Dosage: The amount of pool shock required depends on the pool's size and the manufacturer's recommendations. It's essential to follow the instructions carefully to avoid over-chlorination.
Safety: Pool shock is a powerful chemical, so it should be handled with care. Always wear protective gear when handling it and store it in a cool, dry place away from other chemicals.
Application: Pool shock can be added directly to the pool water or pre-dissolved in a bucket of water before pouring it into the pool. Be cautious not to mix it with other pool chemicals unless directed to do so.
Testing: Regularly test the pool water using water testing products like test strips or liquid test kits to ensure that the chlorine levels are within the recommended range.
Storage: Keep pool shock out of the reach of children and pets. Store it in its original container and away from direct sunlight.
In summary, pool shock is a crucial component of pool maintenance, helping to keep pool water safe and clean by effectively eliminating contaminants and preventing the growth of algae.Proper handling, dosing, and regular testing are essential to ensure the pool's water quality remains optimal.

In The Swim Pool Shock Treatment
Swimming pool shock treatments are an essential aspect of spring pool opening but can also be used to give your pool a quick chlorine boost. Pool Shock is our most popular and versatile pool shock treatment, used to kill algae and bacteria and remove micro-contaminants that make pool water cloudy.
Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.
Reliable & Easy to Use
In The Swim Pool Shock is our most economical chlorine shock treatment for pools, sold in convenient 1 lb. bags. Powerful formula contains 99% calcium hypochlorite in a powerful 68% available chlorine formula. Granular chlorine Pool Shock is used for a variety of purposes to sanitize and disinfect pools, spas and fountains. Easy to use Pool Shock effectively treats 10,000 gallons of pool water per bag.
Kills Algae & Bacteria
Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.
Super Chlorinate
One pound of In The Swim Pool Shock will raise free chlorine levels in a clean and balanced pool to 9 ppm, per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Pools with excessive debris, algae, suspended particles or heavy sunlight will need a proportionally higher dose of pool shock, to compensate for such factors. A double or triple dose is often required for poor water conditions such as spring openings, bacteria contamination, or severe algae blooms.

User questions & answers
Question: | does it turn the water BLUE,,, that is what I wont in my pool,,,Blue water |
Answer: | it clears the water of any cloudiness. it does not turn the water blue. pool water will always reflect the color of your liner. |
Question: | Will this work without shocking first |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Exactly what chemicals are in this product? Do I use it in addition to shock, muriatic acid, algecide.... or instead of |
Answer: | This is not a product that replaces ANY pool chemical treatment. You still need your chlorine or other sanitizer, muriatic acid, CYA, Borax, algaecide, shock, etc. as usual. This enhances your usual maintenance chemicals. It does a great job of what I call clumping up small dust/dirt particles making it easier for the filter to remove them. It will not “turn you water blue,” but it does make the water crystal clear, and makes it sparkle. If you happen to have a liner with lots of blue in the pattern, it will make the water “appear” to be bluer, but all it does is remove fine particles, & makes the water crystal clear. I use it once a week, and dose after heavy rains. I’ve used it for 20 years, have tried others, but always come back to this. |
Question: | I have an Intex Metal Frame Pool with a Saltwater Pump and Filter System. Will this product work with that type of set up |
Answer: | Yes it stated on the bottle that it will work salt, and all types of filters/pumps. |

Question: | Is it safe to ise in an inflatable pool without a pump system |
Answer: | Yes for an indoor or covered spa. If it gets sun you want a stabilized product. |
Question: | Is this safe for Vinyl Pools |
Answer: | I had this issue the first time as well. Examine the red lock tab to see how it locks into place by falling into those holes. You need to pull up on that. Thing is, mine had already been pulled up. So instead of concentrating my energy on that I stood up, grabbed the top of the bucket with both hands and turned it left in order to open it. Simply grabbing it from the side with one hand was not enough the first time so you'll need both hands and grab from the top. Have another person hold the red tab up at the same time and it should open easily. |
Question: | is this ideal to open an above ground pool for the season |
Answer: | Yes, prices have changed (a lot )specially during summer. |

Question: | So what's the difference between sodium and calcium hypochlorite ? Is 1pack of this is stronger than a bottle of 12.5pc sodium |
Answer: | Good question: I reviewed several sources and found the answers to be complicated. My opinion is that Granular calcium hypochlorite contains 65 percent of available chlorine. Therefore, if you are currently using sodium hypochlorite (12%), then you can make an equivalent stock solution by mixing 1.5 pounds of granular calcium hypochlorite to each gallon of water in the stock solution tank. Source of information http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=93148 The solid form (Calcium Hypochlorite) seems easier to use which is why I purchase that one. Additionally, the cost per unit of chlorine from the calcium hypochlorite seems to be less expensive. Again, sources of information show differing numbers including the amount of free chlorine released from each unit. It may be a good idea to try each one then test the resultant solution for the amount of available Chlorine. |
Question: | Is this safe for vinyl pools |
Answer: | buy a floating dispensor for 3 inch tabs, buysome tabs. next the important thing,a test kit,a simple 2 test kit will do for what you have.just test chlorine and ph, ph takes a week or so to settle down to a good reading.don't even need to test for first week. after you get some good reading then tell me what they are and I will help you to adjust it. its simple with a pool your size. run filter 6-8 hours a day.most important and don't forget this!!! have fun!!!!! depending on how your ph goes will determind what chlorine to use, there is no straight chlorine,it is all bonded to another element ,which element you want depends on your ph reading. |

Boost Chlorine
Chlorine sanitizes your pool to remove bacteria and other hazardous contaminants to keep water clean. Use HTH Super Shock! Treatment to restore chlorine levels that have been depleted by the sun, rain and heavy use.
Kill Bacteria & Algae
Low chlorine levels, poor water circulation and warm weather can encourage bacteria and algae growth. Rid your pool of black algae, mustard algae and green algae and prevent regrowth by shocking your pool once a week. Don’t forget to brush the floor and walls of the pool.
Keep Water Clear
The fast-dissolving formula found in HTH shock treatments acts quickly to restore clarity to your water so you can be back in the swimming pool within 24 hours. Plus, the treatment won’t overstabilize your pool or fade your liners.
1. Test pH Levels
Dip an HTH Multi-purpose 6-Way Test Strip (sold separately) into the water to measure total alkalinity, pH, free available chlorine (FAC), calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid (CYA) or stabilizer. Balance water, and adjust alkalinity and pH levels, where applicable.
2. Apply Directly to Water
Before handling any chemicals, put on protective gloves and goggles. During evening hours and with the pump running, broadcast the HTH Super Shock! Treatment evenly over a wide area in the deepest part of your pool.
3. Wait & Test Chlorine Levels
If granules settle along the bottom of the pool, use a brush to disperse until granules are dissolved. Once free available chlorine levels are between 1 and 4 parts per million, your pool is ready to use again.

Question: | What is the active ingredient in the second part (the flocking agent |
Answer: | If you’re dimensions are 18 ft. Diameter round pool that is 52 inches deep calculate the volume. But to get rid of the Green the box should be enough for two treatments. 2 bags of Shock, 1 bag of the flocculant. I think your volume would be under 8000 gallons. |
Question: | Super green to blue has caused mine to be cloudy and green. What to do |
Answer: | Yes. The sauna is (light weight) conveniently easy to fold down/dismantle and store away; when not in use. Fyi.. I have a large bathroom - and utilize my sauna on a daily basis since i purchased it; space is not a problem for me. Hope this helps. |
Question: | What color is the powder supposed to be? Mine is brown |

Question: | The box comes with 4 shock bags , how many bags do I need to add to my 18x52 inch pool |
Answer: | Hi dear, you can put essential oils or herbs in the herbal box to physiotherapy, which can not be put in the steam pot.
