4 best non chlorine pool shocks

Non-chlorine pool shocks, also known as non-chlorine oxidizers or shock oxidizers, are chemical compounds used in swimming pools and hot tubs to help maintain water clarity and cleanliness. They are an alternative to traditional chlorine-based shock treatments. Here's what you need to know about non-chlorine pool shocks:

  1. Purpose: Non-chlorine pool shocks are used to oxidize organic contaminants, such as sweat, sunscreen, and other impurities that can build up in pool water. This process helps to eliminate bacteria, algae, and other harmful microorganisms.

  2. Active Ingredients: The active ingredients in non-chlorine pool shocks typically include compounds like potassium monopersulfate, sodium percarbonate, or calcium hypochlorite. These substances break down and neutralize organic matter in the water.

  3. Benefits:

    • Unlike chlorine-based shock treatments, non-chlorine shocks do not significantly affect the chlorine levels in the pool, making them suitable for pools that are chlorine-sensitive or for people with skin sensitivities.
    • Non-chlorine shocks do not produce chloramines, which are a byproduct of chlorine disinfection and can lead to eye and skin irritation.
    • They do not alter the pH levels of the water, helping to maintain a stable pH balance.
  4. Application: Non-chlorine shocks are typically available in granular form. They can be broadcast directly into the pool water or dissolved in a bucket of water before being evenly distributed across the pool surface. It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for dosage and application.

  5. Frequency: How often you need to shock your pool with a non-chlorine shock will depend on factors like pool usage, weather conditions, and the presence of contaminants. Generally, it's recommended to shock the pool every 1-2 weeks, but regular water testing can help determine the specific needs of your pool.

  6. Compatibility: Non-chlorine shocks can be used alongside chlorine-based sanitizers or as a standalone treatment. However, it's important to follow the product's instructions and avoid mixing different types of shocks.

  7. Storage and Handling: Store non-chlorine pool shocks in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.Follow safety instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding handling and storage.

  8. Safety Considerations: Always follow safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Avoid inhaling dust or direct skin contact with the shock compound. Use protective gear as recommended.

Using non-chlorine pool shocks can be an effective way to maintain a clean and clear pool without relying solely on chlorine-based treatments. However, it's important to regularly test the water and adjust chemical levels as needed to ensure optimal pool conditions.

In The Swim Chlorine-Free Oxidizing Pool Shock

Oxidizing swimming pool shock treatments are an essential aspect of opening and closing your pool. Oxidizing shock can also be used for weekly maintenance to help enhance your chlorine’s sanitizing efficiency. Chlorine-Free Pool Shock is one of the most versatile shock treatments on the market. It provides many benefits for virtually every swimming application.

Chlorine-Free Pool Shock will help eliminate chloramines (non-sanitizing chlorine) and allow the sanitizing chlorine to be more effective. Chlorine-Free Pool Shock is not only for routine maintenance, but is also great to use before and after you are expecting a heavy bather load.

Pool Care and Maintenance

It is important to maintain your pool/spa to keep it clean and healthy all year round. Good habits, such as cleaning your filter or emptying your skimmer basket, will ensure that your investment is protected for years to come. But most importantly, you and your family will be able to enjoy the swimming pool or spa each season.

Water Testing

Use our Pool Shock to kill visible algae blooms and invisible bacteria, which could cause illness to swimmers. Your daily chlorination of the pool will kill most pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes, however to be sure that the water is sanitary, it is good practice to 'shock the pool', or super-chlorinate the pool every few weeks, to oxidize everything in the water, especially the invisible germs that may be harboring in the water.

Adjusting and Balancing

One pound of In The Swim Pool Shock will raise free chlorine levels in a clean and balanced pool to 9 ppm, per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Pools with excessive debris, algae, suspended particles or heavy sunlight will need a proportionally higher dose of pool shock, to compensate for such factors. A double or triple dose is often required for poor water conditions such as spring openings, bacteria contamination, or severe algae blooms.

Product features

Boost Chlorine

Chlorine sanitizes your pool to remove bacteria and other hazardous contaminants to keep water clean. Use HTH Super Shock! Treatment to restore chlorine levels that have been depleted by the sun, rain and heavy use.

Kill Bacteria & Algae

Low chlorine levels, poor water circulation and warm weather can encourage bacteria and algae growth. Rid your pool of black algae, mustard algae and green algae and prevent regrowth by shocking your pool once a week. Don’t forget to brush the floor and walls of the pool.

Keep Water Clear

The fast-dissolving formula found in HTH shock treatments acts quickly to restore clarity to your water so you can be back in the swimming pool within 24 hours. Plus, the treatment won’t overstabilize your pool or fade your liners.

Test pH Levels

Dip an HTH Multi-purpose 6-Way Test Strip (sold separately) into the water to measure total alkalinity, pH, free available chlorine (FAC), calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid (CYA) or stabilizer. Balance water, and adjust alkalinity and pH levels, where applicable.

2. Apply Directly to Water

Before handling any chemicals, put on protective gloves and goggles. During evening hours and with the pump running, broadcast the HTH Super Shock! Treatment evenly over a wide area in the deepest part of your pool.

3. Wait & Test Chlorine Levels

If granules settle along the bottom of the pool, use a brush to disperse until granules are dissolved. Once free available chlorine levels are between 1 and 4 parts per million, your pool is ready to use again.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this NON chlorine shock
Answer: Idk but it can be used in both chlorine and bromine hot tubs. This is the best shock ive used. Makes my hot tub super clear!
Question: How many tablespoons are in this container
Answer: Roughly, 60 tablespoons. This is according to a grams to tablespoons conversion calculator I found online. The bottle contains 2lbs or 907 grams.
Question: is this the same stuff as spa shock-oxidizer by Spaguard
Answer: It is definitely the same. There is this one which is Enhanced.( sanitizer and oxidizer ) It has chlorine. Just the plain shock does not have chlorine and it will say Non- Chlorine. Meaning another form of chlorine is needed. With this one this is all you need for after you get out of spa each time. I was told when purchased to put 1 tsp per bather. We do only have 2 of us and only 200 gallons of water. It works great to keep clean and clear.
Question: I am told to put in a cap full once a week. How many tablespoons does the "cap" of the bottle hold
Answer: A cap full is about 5 tablespoons. You should use 1 teaspoon a week. A Capp full would be too much. This product works great.
