14 best grub killers
Here's some information about grub killers:
Grub Killers:
- Grub killers are products designed to eliminate or control grubs, which are the larval stage of certain beetles, particularly Japanese beetles, June bugs, and chafer beetles. Grubs can cause damage to lawns by feeding on grassroots.
Sprayers:
- In the context of grub killers, sprayers refer to the equipment used to apply the product to the affected areas. These can range from handheld spray bottles to larger, more powerful sprayers for larger areas.
Pest Control:
- Pest control involves the management and elimination of unwanted organisms that can cause harm or damage to plants, animals, or structures. This can include insects, rodents, weeds, and other pests.
Patio Lawn Garden:
- Patio lawn and garden products are specifically designed for outdoor spaces like patios, balconies, and decks. This category includes a wide range of items, such as furniture, planters, decor, lighting, and pest control products like grub killers.
Types of Grub Killers:
- Grub killers come in various forms, including granular formulations and liquid concentrates.Granular products are spread over the affected area and watered in, while liquid concentrates are mixed with water and applied using sprayers.
Application:
- Grub killers are typically applied in late spring or early summer when the grubs are actively feeding near the surface of the soil. It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper application.
Effectiveness and Considerations:
- The effectiveness of a grub killer can vary depending on factors like the type of product, the species of grub, and the timing of application. Some products may be more effective against certain types of grubs than others.
Environmental Considerations:
- When using grub killers, it's important to consider the potential impact on non-target organisms and the environment. Some products may have specific guidelines or precautions to minimize unintended effects.
Preventative Measures:
- In addition to using grub killers, incorporating cultural practices like proper lawn maintenance (e.g., regular watering, mowing, and aeration) can help prevent grub infestations.
Using grub killers can be an effective way to manage grub populations and protect lawns from damage. However, it's important to use these products responsibly and according to manufacturer instructions to ensure effectiveness and minimize any potential environmental impact.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this in vegetable garden |
Answer: | You probably "could" use it to prevent/kill grubs (and other insects), but probably should not use it in your garden(s) if you intend to eat the veggies you grow, since it IS a chemical. Grubs typically won't eat most veggie or flower roots anyway as they tend to be a bit "hard" and "biter" for grubs liking, so you shouldn't even need to use any in your veggie or flower beds or garden areas, they do however enjoy grass roots as they tend to be much thinner, softer and "sweeter" to grubs, so use it only on your lawn/grass. You can also heavily apply this product and NOT worry about any lawn damage. I double the recommended spreader setting and it never negatively affects my lawn and I never get grubs anymore. Good Luck! |
Question: | will it harm earthworms |
Answer: | Grubex will not harm earthworms, nematodes or soil bacteria and does not pose a health risk to wildlife when applied according to label instructions. |
Question: | Can I use with crabgrass preventer |
Answer: | Yes, you can apply at the same time, I have for years! I apply this product each year 7 to 10 days after the LAST frost (usually early to mid March in my area of NYC), that way the soil has started to soften up and the products can get down and do their job, at the same time I apply a "Scotts" brand Crabgrass Pre-Emergent (which only kills/prevents SOME weed types) and so I also throw down a broader spectrum weed n feed to combat most/all other types of weeds and I also get a lawn food and a soil food down as well and I always overseed heavily each fall. Since figuring out my lawn and soil, what it needs and what works best for me, I have not had any grub or carbgrass issues in about 12 years. Good Luck |
Question: | Does this kill Vine Weevil grubs? Thank you |
Answer: | GrubEx1 will control the grub larvae of following insects: Japanese beetles, Asiatic garden beetles, Black turfgrass ataenius, Aphodius spp., European chafers, Green June beetles, May/June beetles, Northern masked chafers, Oriental beetles, Southern masked chafers, Caterpillars (including Armyworms, Cutworms, Sod websorms), Billbug grubs and crane fly larvae (including European Crane Flies). User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used under fruit trees ie. Apple, pears, blueberries etc?? I need to be 100% sure and would like responses fro those whom are certain |
Answer: | I always want to give good information on this poisen. I can not answer your question. I use Bayer poisen for the yard and around the headges and for flea controll. I contacted Bayer about useing it during the hot summer months in Fl when the tempature reaches above 90*; Bayer informed me that it stops killing insects above 90*. For fruit trees you need to call their 800 # and ask them or your county Agracultrial Agent. Have a safe growing season. Dallas |
Question: | Will this work in flower beds with weed fabric and ceder mulch on top? Worried it won't get down to the grubs |
Answer: | This substance is a solvent. it will eventually dissolve and absolve in ground, so it would work when spread over mulch. |
Question: | does this kill chiggers? the normal insect killers won't work because they're arachnids, but noticed it does kill spiders and ticks |
Answer: | Yes it specifically lists chiggers as a pest it will control. Thanks for considering your purchase from Amazon through AgCareDirect. |
Question: | will this kill honeybees |
Answer: | Thats a good QUESTION. I dont know I would call Bayer and talk to them. Also make sure you read the MSDS INFORMATION and the instructions on how to speead it. Bayer is good for killing fleas and ticks. It lasts three months and use it untill the out door temps hit 90* or above. I live in Jax Fl. I use a comertial pest controll service year round and I have them spray for fleas during the 90* hot summer months. Comertial liquid poisen kills the fleas and ticks above 90*. I either just dump the bag in my spreader or sometimes use rubber gloves and speead it around the foundation of my house to kill roaches before they have a chance to get in. Also, BAYER does not kill anything if you use it during the hot days of summer when the tempature is above 90*. I called Bayer and read it on the MSDS sheet. Hope I helped you out. I was a Hamat Tech when I was a Firefighter now I am retired. Have a good spring. |

Question: | I'm trying to find the word "granular" on this picture. Is it |
Answer: | Spreader mix ...i guess...the same thing??? It is the stuff!!! I only did 1 application...& it worked!!! And it didn't kill my wonderful earthworms! It has been about 5m. and still no grubs. If I see any evidence I will use this product(though expensive) again! I do need to reseed my lawn in those areas :( |
Question: | The description says this has no effects on humans or pets, but the bag has a warning: Hazard to humans and domestic animals. What is the truth |
Answer: | it means don't breathe it in or consume the product. if you have animals make sure u wet it down well before u let animals near the spread. as 4 the 2 legged animal, watch out 4 children (who put everything in their mouths) adults should use common sense. IE: cheap paper mask/filter & protect eyes etc.. after it has been wetted down into the ground it is harmless. i have used 4 the last 8yrs. & as of 06/01/2016, my doctor says i'm in good health. |
Question: | What else besides Japanese beetle grubs does this kill |
Answer: | This is what the pkg itself reads: "1 application can last up to 15 years in the soil. St. Gabriel Organics guarantees product performance for 10 years.Milky Spore only kills the grub stage of Japanese beetles does not harm people, pets and the environment.Environmentally friendly,Does not harm bees" |
Question: | Is this really 20 pounds or 20 ounces? What size area does it treat |
Answer: | 20 Pounds and it's great , the granulare is easy to apply. I use the power in the front yard I had to dress for safety and safety glasses and a special mask rated for the dust. This you do not have to just spread with hand held spreader or other spreader. The power is every 3 or 4 feet . This is a great.20 pounds Granular |

User questions & answers
Question: | We seem to have a grub infestation and animals are ripping up the grass to get at the grubs -- is it too late in the season to apply your product |
Answer: | I didn't read the package (no gone) to find out the best time of year to apply the stuff, I simply dispatched it using a lawn spreader according to the application chart on the bag. To answer your question, I'd have to say that as long as the ground hasn't yet froze solid, and liquid rain is still likely in the upcoming weather forecasts, then the product should still be effective. In my case, I was declaring war on a major infestation of opossums who's tunneling activities were under-mining the shed and beginning to cause large sink holes in our yard and driveway. One person had already fallen through a thin section of ground in the yard - into a hole that was 4 feet deep, with 20" - 24" inch tunnels going in both directions underground! I'd STILL like to know where the heck all that dirt goes, as no tell-tale signs such as mounds of soil were ever found on the premises! While researching this problem, I learned that grub worm are one of their favorite foods, and that promotes such tunneling activity in an area that contains such a food source. That's why I bought the grub killer in the first place. What I can say for sure is that, within 3 days after applying the stuff, 95% of my entire lawn was surprisingly dead! I assume that since what little vegetation still remaining was sparse blades of soft thin regular grass, it seems that every other living growing thing in the lawn was killed, presumably all weeds, crab-grass, wire-grass, etc. I'd also have to say that such devastation to the roots of the undesired plants must not have ben to healthy fore the grubs either. In addition to applying the grub killer, we also took other steps before applying the grub killer, including: filling tunnel entrances with crushed glass, and using kill traps to kill as many opossums as possible. In any event, there has been no signs of opossums, nor any new tunneling activity on the property since the grub killer was applied, but that could likely also be the combined results of a culmination of steps that were taken. I guess the real verdict won't come in until next spring, when we see if that pest problem resumes. Meanwhile, no one else has fallen through the ground around here, and we seem to have stopped it before any cars got eaten up in the driveway! In your case (if it were me), I'd still give it a shot, so long as water can still cause the chemicals to soon saturate the root level of the soil. Good Luck! |
Question: | Does this kill weevils that eat agave plants |
Answer: | Unfortunately, this product is not listed for the control of weevils. We would recommend applying our 3 in 1 Insect, Disease, & Mite control spray for that particular insect. You may apply every 7-14 days as needed for an active infestation. |
Question: | How many sq feet for 1 bag |
Answer: | Approximately 5000. Seems high priced but what isn't these days. 2nd year I have used it ..... No complaints |
Question: | What is the expiration date on the packages currently for sale |
Answer: | There is no exp date |

Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer Products
There’s an army of insects out there looking for the next lawn or garden to feast on. Don’t let them turn the fruits of your labor into an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer products are formulated for broad-spectrum control of outdoor insects, whether you’re controlling pests in your lawn, garden or landscape. They even take care of bugs below ground, leaving plant-munching insects with nowhere to hide.
How do you know if you have insect damage?
In the heat of summer, we all have brown patches in our lawns. If it’s irregular or mottled, the browning could be a symptom of lawn pests. To test, pick a spot in the affected area of your lawn and spread the grass blades so the surface roots are visible – this will give you a good view of turf-feeding bugs. If the browning is fairly uniform over your entire lawn, it’s most likely caused by hot and dry weather.
Aphids
These green, yellow, brown, red or black pear-shaped insects with long legs and antennae aren’t easily disturbed. They suck plant juices out of the leaves, stems or roots of plants.
Ticks
In the same family as scorpions and spiders, these tiny arachnids are blood-feeding parasites found in tall grass. They carry infections such as Lyme disease, and females inflate from flat insects to oval shape after feeding.
Fleas
Found primarily on pets, fleas are just 3/16 inch long, but they carry several diseases, including typhus, bubonic plague and tapeworm. They usually appear in clusters of two or three on human ankles or legs or anywhere on pets.
Japanese beetles
A constant source of aggravation for gardeners, Japanese
beetles eat 300 types of trees and plants. Metallic green with coppery brown wing covers, these 3/8 inch-long creatures are often found around homes and gardens, attacking flowers, fruits and lawns.
Grub control
The tough lawn grub can cause real damage to your lawn and landscape. Whitish and c-shaped, grubs feed on grass roots, making lawns incapable of drawing necessary water and nutrients from the soil. Grubs are highly active during the summer – adult females generally lay their eggs in the soil during July, and the newly hatched grubs begin to feed on turf roots in early August, causing grass to die off in irregular patches.
For grub control, use Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer products in late spring, then again in the fall if a second generation appears.

User questions & answers
Question: | how is it applied |
Answer: | I applied by hand using a cup with wholes. But you can use a handheld spreader or a push spreader. What ever you use to put fertilizer down with. |
Question: | when is best time of year to apply |
Answer: | An easy way to remember: Apply in July when the beetles fly. |
Question: | Doesn't mention if/when small pets can be on the lawn. Does it say anywhere on the actual package |
Answer: | Eric's answer is nonsense. The active ingredient in this pesticide is imidacloprid. According to published testing at the Michigan State Extension Service, Cornell University et al, the instructions to apply imidacloprid to a lawn require you to water-in the product with a half inch of water. Once the lawn then dries after the watering it is safe for children and pests. Do your own query, that data is widely published. In fact, to make the point even more clearly, imidacloprid is approved by the EPA to be applied directly onto dogs over 7 weeks old as a flea treatment. Why people like Eric make their ridiculous postings is beyond me. |
Question: | This thing smells pretty evil. I want grubs to die but I feel the worse for my earthworms. Will this kill earthworms in the soil |
Answer: | As I said in my review, in addition to the grubs, it killed the earthworms in my lawn. It killed about a dozen worms per 10-square feet of turf. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this kill moths and moth larve around stored wool rugs |
Answer: | The Complete Insect Killer is only for use on lawns and around building foundations to control listed pests. We do have a Home Pest Indoor/Outdoor that may be applied to a storage area that will control adult moths that come into contact with the insecticide, however, you would not want to apply directly to the wool rugs. |
Question: | will this kill Japanee Beetle eggs in the grass |
Answer: | Japanese beetles do not come from eggs. They are grub in the cycle when they are in the lawn and dirt. Use a specific grub treatment (i.e. Milky Spore) to rid them in the grub stage. |
Question: | can it be mixed with weed killer |
Answer: | If you need to apply a weed killer as well we would recommend applying this product first and once it has been allowed to dry completely you may apply the other product. |
Question: | your title says 40 ounce, your description says 32 ounces, which is it |
Answer: | It's 40 ounces. The bottle reads "25% more VS. 32 oz." |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work for gofers as well |
Answer: | No. Gophers are vegetarian so they want roots mostly. There are products designed for gophers, but gopher traps are a good choice with some practice. |
Question: | if the product poisons the mole and kills it and another animal eats the mole will it kill the other animal |
Answer: | I do not know. I have no data. I have not seen any dead moles on the surface of my lawn. That being said, I would think the affected mole would die in its habitat (underground tunnels) and therefore the risk would be minimal to other animals, unless the other animal digs it up and eats it. |
Question: | Not sure i'm understanding this. do you use this with a trap as bait or is this some sort of poison you use by itself |
Answer: | It is a poison. You find active tunnels then poke a hole and insert the bait. When i find an area of activity I flatten all the surface tunnels then watch closely for new activity (I wait an hour then check every 30 minutes). Once some new tunnels pop I insert bait that way I don't waste bait. I have a 1 acre yard and had activity in 3 spots. Two have ceased but the third is stubborn. 66% is pretty good IMO. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long does this work on controlling mosquitos |
Answer: | It kills the mosquitos, right away. The mosquitos, usually, stay away for (about) a month. However, you must be diligent in not keeping standing water around your property. |
Question: | Push in to open means product comes out of container right |
Answer: | yes. it's like child proof bottles where you push the lid in and then screw. The bottle is very robust and leak proof. |
Question: | Can I use this on fake grass |
Answer: | I don't see why not. You are going after the pests. Formula does not effect surface in any way. |
Question: | how long after i spray can my dogs go on the grass |
Answer: | I have a German Shepherd and researched this question through the Manufacturer's Website. Once the application has completely dried, it is safe for dogs to be on the lawn. |
