Answer:	1 1/4", not 2" as an earlier answer showed. It slid into my Sandgrabber bases that are only 1 3/8" diameter.

Answer:	No, the umbrella does not have a sand anchor, although, I used it at the beach for a week, few days very windy, and it held up great. The pole has a pointed end that you can easily anchor in the sand by wiggling back and forth. The deeper you put in the sand, the better it holds up.

Answer:	I've purchased 5 of these umbrellas over the course of about 10 years. Two of these were replacements this year for ones that were damaged by the high winds where I moved to in Northern California. However, they were damaged because the gale-force winds knocked over the heavy metal and glass patio tables with weighted umbrella stands, causing the umbrellas to break. I've replaced the glass tables with slate-topped ones which shouldn't blow over. As these winds are seasonal, I will lower the table umbrellas; lower and put on the ground the free-standing one. I know those 45mph sustained winds with higher gusts will come again next winter, but I plan to sleep on windy nights. Can't tell you much about heavy rains because, as I said, I live in Northern California where it rains just 3 months of the year. Don't know anything about the guarantee/warranty; but I can tell you that the Bayside 21 Hula umbrellas are well-made and that the company continues to improve the design/materials because my newer ones are made better than my older ones.

Answer:	I live in Phoenix, temps up to 120+ and mine stay in direct sunlight by the pool pretty much all year. I figured these would melt after one summer and I would replace. Going on my third year. They have held up to high winds, insane temps and still going strong. The wooden tops have dried out and fallen off...but who cares. I am buying two more to add to the pool area for this summer.

Answer:	I bought one of these umbrellas in the beginning of the summer and it didn't survive. Not even a windy summer in CT which is where I live. It's not worth the money. Keep shopping or you're gift (which is thoughtful) will be in the trash before next spring.

Answer:	I measured 82" when the bottom section of pole is attached. The top section by itself is 46". The two parts attach to one another, but they DO NOT telescope to adjust to something less than 82". So your either at 46" or 82" long.
