Answer:	They are sized per the specification. The spindles are not the same size on this machine. One goes on the engine, the other on the pump, and those spindles are not the same. This fit my MTD series 550 log splitter correctly and replaced part no 718-04145 which specified as a 7/8" and 1/2" Flexible Coupling . It is NOT 1/2 x 1/2. I purchased this part and installed it myself a few weeks back and have split wood with it.

Answer:	Oil. Mine was shipped with oil in it. But the filler fitting threads aren't sealed so some leaked out during shipping. I did a return/replacement and the replacment did the same thing except worse. As long as the fitting is in the upright position it doesn't leak. Depending on how long it takes to ship, it may leak more out if the fitting is facing down.
