Answer:	Detection depth varies with many factors. The size, shape, exact metal alloy, and orientation of the object in the ground are all important factors. Objects with greater surface area can be detected at greater depths. The size of the search coil, as well as Soil conditions & the amount of minerals in the soil are also factors in detection depth.
Question:	Why is there no external volume control--or is there? (If using w/o headphones
Answer:	I bought the unit for my wife and wasn't aware of the lack of volume control other then the one on the head phone. We both NEVER hunt without the headphones in place so it was never a problem.

Answer:	If you crank up the discrimination, it will work fine. You will miss some things, especially iron, but I have found lots of coins and jewelry at the beach with mine.

SENS

Adjust the sensitivity from 1 to 10. The higher the number, the more sensitive the detector. This sensitivity control does not affect Pinpoint sensitivity. In practice, the maximum depth it can probe is about 23cm. If the detector beeps erratically or beeps when there are no metal objects being detected, reduce the sensitivity. It is recommended to adjust the sensitivity according to the ground conditions to avoid false alarms.

NOTCH MODE

In this mode, you can customize the exclusion of the first 4 metals(FOIL, 5¢, ALUM, Zn)

Note: Iron cannot be excluded from this mode, because large iron nuggets may contain gold nuggets. So you won't miss any valuable metal.

DISC Mode

In this mode, you can detect multiple types of metals but exclude cheap metals. It allows you to exclude up to 5 metal types in order from left to right, namely Iron, Foil, 5 Cents, Aluminum, and Zinc

After setting, the corresponding icons will go, the detector will not react to them, which can improve the detection efficiency greatly.

Dig out the detected metal

When the search coil is accurately positioned on the target, you will hear a strong sound.

Then you can use a shovel to dig out the detected metal.

Overload warning

This function is to guide you to use the correct detection distance, especially helpful for beginners.

If a metal object or highly magnetic soil is too close to the search coil, the detector will overload, and “--” will appear on LCD. If occurs, Just lift the search coil a little bit or move to a different location.

Answer:	Basically metal detectors can discriminate between ferrous and non ferrous metes but the can sometimes be offset by the size of the item it has on it's reference scale. Generally when detecting for gold the detector is comparing mass and metal type and larger size can mislead the readings. The do work well with small items like coins and jewelry like rings but gold bars are not normally what your going to fine in the field. Try the detector on some smaller items and keep in mind that other than gold coins gold can contain other metals like silver depending on the karat. Hope this helps and also depth plays a hand in this, you can try burring the item your testing and keep not on the numbers on the scale. You can also tell the difference between pure copper coins and copper zinc coins which read about 2 numbers different.

Q1. Great for beginners, but not most accurate.

Yes, accurate can reach 8 inches, enough for beginners and develop children 's love of nature. Not suggested do some professional use.

Answer:	The headphones that come with this bundle do not allow you to control the volume but if you go for the Garrett Clearsound Easystow Headphones you can control the volume.

Answer:	Yes I used it for that for a friend. The way I found it is take a peice of electrical wire like your hunting for and see how it's pinging on your detector. Then when you get a hit mark it then go about it a foot or two away and go in a circle around it. If you get another hit that is straight from the marked spot go another foot in the same direction and see if you hit again. If not go on your other side just in case it's the other direction and do the same thing

Question:	how long do batteries last? can you use rechargeable energizer batteries? AA or AAA batteries
Answer:	Best to use Duracell (4) AA batteries. They should last 20-24 hours if new. Keep recirculating them as they loose power within the unit for max. use. I always keep an extra set in my carrying case for back-up and change after the ones in my unit are about 1/2 life left. You can use rechargeable but they won't last as long and you need to charge them up before you go out for max. efficiency. Happy Hunting!!!
