We have a huge urn on ours and could have went with a bigger one but we made it work by slopping the dirt around it so it goes down into the reservoir and covering the dirt with plastic. That catches the splash for us. |

The one I ordered from Amazon under the model number 3e-12-wg was painted black (most of which has already peeled off), had a ~25ft cord, and is not made in USA. Otherwise they look identical however the 3e-12n was more powerful and easier to prime. The newer one stops working when the liquid is still a couple of inches deep. Not sure why that is. |

| Answer: | As far as I am aware, pretty much all small submersible pumps are magnetic drives. The impeller of the pump is attached to a floating cylindrical magnet and alternating electro-magnets inside the pump are used to make the impeller spin, hence the name, magnetic drive. It will be fine for an indoor fountain and will probably function much better since there will be much less dirt and plant debris than outdoor use. |
