Answer:	This is the second LaCrosse station for me. I never brought the rain gauge in with the first one, and it seems to "weather the elements" just fine. It may fill up with snow, but as it melts, the gauge will still measure the water as rain that runs through it.

Answer:	Changing settings (time, date, etc) is all done through the "Set" button on the front of the unit. Hold it down for a few seconds until an item on the display starts blinking. You can change this item using the up and down arrow buttons. Press Set to go to the next item. When the hour blinks, change it to the correct number. There is an AM and PM number available for each hour. For example, if you set the hour to 5 AM and you want 5 PM, continue changing the hour setting until 5 PM appears.

Answer:	No, there is no barometer. The wind reading is not instantaneous and it seems to be an average over a short period of time so gusts are not the right speed. If you use the app you will see that everything is averaged out over time periods which is to save storage and data transmission rates. All these deficiencies are acceptable for home use but not for a "true" weather station which are easily 10 times or more the cost.
Question:	Can it calculate wind chill
Answer:	I guess you could call it wind chill, there is a “feels like” number.
Question:	What kind of batteries do the sensors use? How long do they last in freezing temperatures
Answer:	Per the manual, Good fresh batteries are important for best performance in your sensors and as backup in your station. Batteries with an expiration date of 2020, were manufactured in 2010. We recommend batteries with an expiration date no more than 6 years in advance of the current year for best performance. A minimum voltage of 1.48 v per battery is required for best performance. Lithium batteries may be used in outdoor sensors. Alkaline batteries for the station. There is no listing of life of battery in cold or freezing temperatures. It would depend on the condition of the battery.
Question:	Do you have to hook this up to a "smart"phone thing/ap in order to get the correct wind speed or will it work on it's own? own
Answer:	No smart phone involved. The wind speed gizmo outside talks from the outside sensor to the base inside.

Question:	how long do the batteries last on the rain gauge
Answer:	The batteries in the main outdoor sensor unit (rain and wind gauges) lasted about a year for me (3 AAA). The battery in the remote temperature sensor lasts longer -- I haven't had to replace it yet. There are batteries in the main indoor display used as backup, but they just maintain connectivity to the sensor if the power goes off so you don't have to do pairing again after power glitches. The display itself normally runs on a 5v power adapter.
Question:	What's the truth? what's in the box? does base station run on aa batteries? does it have any remotes? what batteries do they use
Answer:	The base station runs off of 5 volt power with an included power supply. The base station uses AA batteries as a backup, but the display goes dark without the 5 volt power applied. The package includes the two remotes shown in the picture and they use AA batteries.

Answer:	Time and date are updated from the National Institute of Standards and Technology servers via your wi-fi connection. Without a wi-fi connection, you must set time and date manually. The unit comes with a 5V power supply. Battery is only used for backup and will not power the display and wi-fi.

Answer:	I tried many times and failed. I contacted La Crosse and they told me that the C83100 is not compatible with Weather Underground. So, I guess it is not possible to join the network. Here is the response: "The C83100 is not compatible with weather underground. I apologizes for the inconvenience."

Question:	Is the signal range of the sensor unit attenuated through house walls or concrete walls
Answer:	My display froze on the startup screen and would not advance after two years. Tried rebooting and same problem. I chatted with support and learned there is no way to reset the display screen. Cheap electronics for a unit at this price. AcuRite knows this is a problem with several others complaining of the issue. Their only solution was for me to spend another $100 and buy a replacement unit. This is a known issue with the display freezing and not advancing beyond the splash screen.

Question:	What should the clearance be for setup, distance from structures, trees, and height off ground
Answer:	Hello Ricky, We recommend that the sensor be located as far away from structures and trees as possible and at least five feet off of the ground. For the most accurate wind readings, the National Weather Service recommends 33 feet high where the sensor is completely free of obstructions. Answer:	Hello Kathryn, The National Weather Service recommends mounting the sensor 33 feet above the ground with no obstructions within 100 feet for the most accurate wind speeds. We understand not all of our customers can mount this high. You should receive an accurate reading for where you do decide to mount it. Outdoor Current Conditions

Knowing your current outdoor conditions helps you to plan your day with confidence. The outdoor sensor sends the current wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity and rainfall to the indoor display. The color display will then show you all of those readings as well as trend arrows for your temperature and humidity so that you know if you need a jacket for later in the day.
