User questions & answers

Question: I need to hang this on an outside wall that has no overhang/covering. Will it stand up to weather (rain, heat, cold, etc.) okay
Answer: Well mine got knocked down by heavy wind and the clear cover cracked. I took it off and Im using it without the cover for now. Bought a cheaper basic one at Target for under 15 dollars and its nicer and better built. This one is off by 3 degrees.
Question: What are the correct measurements? 7.9 inches cannot be correct
Answer: You're correct. It measures a little over 13 inches. I have mine hanging on some lattice in my patio which you shouldn't do as the sun shines on the back of it and gives a false reading. Should work fine if you place it on a stable surface.
Question: Is there a trick to get this thing to go below 60? It goeus up fine but seems to never drop below 60. This my 2'nd try with this and both are the same
Answer: It will only go below 60 degrees if the temperature goes below 60 degrees, otherwise it faulty.
Question: Is the back open exposing the temperature mechanism or is it enclosed in some type of protection
Answer: the back is open exposing the temperature mechanism

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use multiple units in the same area? Considering using these to monitor actual room temps in a conference center
Answer: Yes, you can have multiple units in the same area because the unit and the sensor coincide with each other during set up.
Question: Can the main unit be wall mounted
Answer: The display unit has no provision for wall mounting. The sensor unit does.
Question: Is the display illuminated
Answer: The display is not illuminated
Question: How long do the batteries last
Answer: Assuming basic, alkaline batteries, performance depends very much on temperature. Below about 10 Celsius (50F) capacity begins to drop off. My experience is batteries will last about 5 weeks if the temperature stays above freezing. Sensor position matters too. My sensor is about 12 meters from the receiver, and the signal has to pass through 5 wood frame walls.

User questions & answers

Question: Can it be calibrated
Answer: No but there is a solution. The little bracket that the coil spring is mounted to on the back can be rotated to align the needle to the correct temperature. There’s a small amount of glue that may need to be to separated between bracket and backing plate but for example on mine the glue was already separated, probably causes rotation during transportation. Simply rotate that coil bracket which is connected to the needle to the correct temperature, mine was still tight but you could add a drop of glue to secure it if needed.
Question: Is this safe in garage
Answer: Unless you are in Jay Leno's garage, why do you need an 18" thermometer that can be seen from 100' away???
Question: Is the metal coil that operates the thermometer enclosed in any way? The open coil on our current one gets water in it and freezes, which keeps it from reading the temp accurately. We live in a very cold climate
Answer: It works great...I have had temps down to 14 below and as high at 120 throughout the years that I have had this model...it works great...even in the freezing winters of NY--it has never frozen...I can't get to it to tell you if the coil is enclosed or not, it is out of reach, and I don't remember...but, I would buy this one again if a wind storm took this one away...it could happen...lol...It is the best one I have found over the years...nice big clear numbers...you will love it...
Question: I want the back to have no plastic. Where the screws go must be all solid metal. Is the Back Metal or Plastic
Answer: The back is aluminum / metal, there are 2 tabs to mount the unit, both are aluminum. One tab is located at the top center and the other tab on the bottom center. These tabs are not shown on the photo, but are able to easy to put out to allow the mounting with either screws or nails. I used screws. My only other advise - keep the clear plastic cover waxed, otherwise over the years, the cover yellows. I usually clean the plastic face cover twice per year with a simply soap and water. In the Spring and just before our cold Northern NY Winter apply a good coat of car wax acceptable to plastic.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this thermometer be adjusted if need be
Answer: they do not appear to be adjustable, however i have had several over the years and all have been pretty accurate.
Question: Precision? I bought two, they both show different temps and different from a real old fashioned thermostat. Why
Answer: One or both of yours is defective. I got the two-pack and I checked them and they both read the same no matter where I put them. I usually don't like to buy these things on line but the stores where I shop kept selling out before I could get there. Perhaps put them both in the fridge for an hour and then take of picture of them side by side showing the difference between the two and email that picture back to Amazon so that they know of your frustration.

User questions & answers

Question: Can it be mounted on a stucco post
Answer: If the stucco post can have a screw put into it, yes. Two screws come with it. It was an easy installation on a wood window frame outside. Good luck.
Question: Can the angel be adjusted so the red liquid shows up wide enough to be read from about 15' away? I'm turning a pole into a low tech weather station
Answer: Not 15 feet away. This is a pretty small thermometer (8 inches total length), and at the optimal angle the liquid is 1/2 a centimeter wide.
Question: Can the metal brackets be removed so it is just a thermometer
Answer: Metal bracket came separate with mine. Mounted it just outside window so I could check temperature without going out.
Question: Why is the two-pack more than twice the price of the single pack
Answer: I can not even begin to understand that one.

User questions & answers

Question: how to shut the alarm off? Neither of the posted work...no bell between the hour/min...and I've held the mode button until my finger went to sleep
Answer: The temp sensor is at the rear of the device about 1 inch from the mounting surface. There should be very little heat transfer thru the window and the mounting,
Question: Can this be used as an alarm clock to wake you up in the morning
Answer: It's intended to be mounted outside a window so you can see what the outside temperature is. But it's a thermometer, so it will give you the temperature wherever you put it (although probably not underwater).
Question: can i buy remote sensor only
Answer: I bought this thermometer in Oct 2012, and have had to change the battery twice in nearly 5 years. I am impressed at how well this has stood up to the Houston heat and humidity.
Question: where does the sensor go? Outsided
Answer: I truly don't know, as mine is in a North facing window. I do know that I really like it a lot. It is so easy to read and quite accurate. Can't hurt to try it in an east facing window though.

User questions & answers

Question: How long is the mounting bracket
Answer: Greetings from Filament Brands! Thank you for your interest in the Taylor Heritage Metal Dial Thermometer. The mounting bracket measures 1.75H X .88D. Please feel free to reach out to us with any other questions or concerns by calling 866-843-3905 Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm MST or email us anytime at [email protected].
Question: Can the bracket be mounted on the right side? All photos show it on the left
Answer: The bracket comes seperate from the angled mounting rod that fits in the bracket and the back of the dial case. The bracket can be flipped over to allow mounting with the screws either to the left or the right of the mounting rod.
Question: Is it made in usa or imported 4 and
Answer: Made in China. The bracket is tubular and needs to be inserted into a slot. If you want a thermometer that you can take out of a box and set it down this is not for you. It is also too light and will move in light wind.
Question: Is it possible to calibrate this thermometer
Answer: I ordered the 8" Bronze thermometer. I doesn't appear to have the ability to be calibrated. No instructions were included. The finish is not bronze but antique brass. The gage marker is a bronze, not copper as pictured. The seller informed me that "we checked the manufacturer and they advised this thermometer is made in 2 colors only black / bronze the one you received is what is considered the bronze". I purchased the 8" Bronze Taylor brand. It does not look like it can be calibrated, but it did not come with any instructions. The finish was an antique brass with a bronze gage, not as indicated in the picture. The seller stated "we checked the manufacturer and they advised this thermometer is made in 2 colors only black / bronze the one you received is what is considered the bronze". If you want a bronze finish, I would recommend a different manufacturer. regardsregards
