Answer:	You could, it you would smell the smoke for other uses. They make one for grills; I drilled a hole in my lid that fit the threads on the grill thermometer I bought on Amazon.

Answer:	The round circle is just a hair over 2 and 1/2 inches around. From the top of the hook to the metal stand is just a hair over 3 inches, top to bottom. The bottom metal stand is just a hair over 1 and 3/4 inches. Hope this helps.

Answer:	-10C is at 13F needs to go CW to 14F, 0C off by 1F needs CW to 32F, BUT 10C is almost spot on at 50F, 20C falls a bit short of 68F. Or if you're European or like metric system the Fahrenheit scale is the wrong one. Looks like art work is not so good and all people on this product team failed elementary grade science!

Answer:	The 6 inch measurement is for the display card it is attached to. This is typical for Amazon descriptions for items of this kind. As stated in other answers, the thermometer itself is 3.5 inches tall

Answer:	The only way to make sure a thermometer is accurate is to calibrate it. This is done by boiling water and using the thermometer to test the water. If the thing reads 121 degrees, it is accurate. If not, then it needs to be calibrated...that is, the dial needs to be rotated in relation to the dial so it reads 212 degrees. From what I see, most dial type oven thermometers are no longer manufactered with a small nut on the back to allow calibration. Find an old one at a yeard sale and you might be able to.

Answer:	If you look at the options available, one is for the oven thermometer but the other option is for a freezer/refrigerator thermometer.

Answer:	You do not have to calibrate this thermometer, and for that matter, it's sealed, so you can't. What temperature are you trying to measure? Any gauge has a sweet spot, or median reading that it's most accurate at, and this one is in the 300-400 degree range. If you are using it for 100 or 600 degrees, it can be off, but should not be off by 200 degrees. To be sure that it's off, make sure you have two other thermometers and measure a temperature of 350 degrees. If still off, you need a replacement. I hope this helps.

Answer:	Good question! The seller does not warranty accuracy (+/- 5 deg, etc.), unlike some other thermometer manufacturers. It's an expansion spring device, not noted for accuracy unless individually factory calibrated which this probably is not. The only way to check for sure is to compare it with a known accurate device or to use a guaranteed professional temperature probe. Trusting your oven dial (as one answer suggests) is useless. If you trust your oven dial, why do you need a thermometer in the first place?

Answer:	You may be looking at the wrong end of the needle arm. At room temp, the tail end is indeed pointing between 350 & 400.

Answer:	It does not connect to anything. I let mine hang from the oven rack with the built in hook. It also has a base that let's it stand on the rack or other flat surface.

Answer:	They are fairly accurate but you should give them optimal conditions to give you a proper reading: The first time, place it in the middle rack and in the center of the rack. Very important: Make sure to allow enough time for your oven to preheat (Do not rely on your oven's built-in notification). A minimum of 15 minutes should usually do it. The thermometer should then slowly climb to the correct temperature.
Question:	How long does it take to get accurate temp
Answer:	Forever. Uh, I have a Taylor liquid oven tuermometer, but thought I'd get one of these after reading or watching reviews from America's Test Kitchen. My thermometer was inaccurate as gauged against my old thermometer AND meals I've cooked many times before -- they were overdone when going by its temperature. Cakes, pizza, etc. and using the recipe's recommended cooking time. They sent me another and it TOO was inaccurate in the same direction. Forget precisely, but showing a temp 25-50 degrees LOWER than the actual temperature. I'll not buy another one. I've read that liquid oven thermometers become inaccurate over time due to the liquid evaporating or whatever, but mine seems to be spot-on still.

Answer:	Cord by itself is 34 inches. Plug on one end and probe on other end makes it a little longer.Be careful placing the probe in the meat. It is too easy to position it wrong and get erroneous reading.

Question:	Do you leave the probe in the meat the whole time it is cooking? Wouldn't the end of the probe melt? I've never used one before
Answer:	Yes, you leave the probe in the meat while it is cooking without any danger of it melting.I bought three of these; one for myself, two as gifts.Two failed immediately, one lasted two weekends. Nothing to do with the probe or batteries. The readout went blank.Personally, I would shop elsewhere.
Question:	Is the probe waterproof and therefore suitable for sous vide cooking
Answer:	I don't think this probe was designed for that type of cooking. I use it for internal temperature of the roast on a grill. I am careful that the wire back to the base does not contact any hot surface. The probe itself can be washed, and therefore withstand water. Good luck if you try it. I'll stick to the conventional ways of using this temperature probe.

Answer:	I would not recommend this unit. The temperature probe are poorly made and mine only lasted for two uses. The company replaced the probe with one that read 30 degree too high. they then replaced the entire unit which again only lasted for several uses.
Question:	Can you use this thermometer for liquids
Answer:	I messed up 3 that way. I do not let the liquid go above the end of the metal probe, they all still failed over time. Mine is in the liquid all the time.

Answer:	I see no button on mine for Celsius. On the brighter side, to convert temperatures from Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 and multiply by .5556 (or 5/9). It's a very good thermometer. I've used mine extensively over the past 4 years with no issues.

Answer:	Hello J William, This thermometer is calibrated at the factory, however, analog thermometers may need to be calibrated from time to time or even just after purchasing the product. The pointer may move during shipping, causing the thermometer to read inaccurately. If the thermometer is reading incorrectly, compare the reading to a known accurate thermometer. Let both units adjust for at least three hours. Depending on the product, there may be a knob or screw on the back of the thermometer to calibrate the temperature. If the new thermometer continues to read inaccurately, adjust the pointer by turning knob or screw on the back of the unit in the appropriate direction. If there is no knob or screw for calibration, you will need to adjust the pointer by hand. If the temperature reading is too low, slowly push the needle up to the highest temperature and then slowly let it follow your finger back down until the needle stops on its own. Never let the needle swing back wildly on its own as this can permanently damage the thermometer. When the needle stops, it will stop a degree or two higher than where it was originally set. Repeat this process until the needle stops at an accurate temperature reading. If the thermometer is too high, follow this same process only pushing the needle down to the lowest temperature. NOTE: Some thermometers may not allow easy access to the pointer. Disassembling may damage the thermometer or void the warranty, and is not recommended. Answer:	Your new thermometer can be used in either gas or electric. Just make sure to place it on the middle rack where you can easily see it, without knocking it off. Also, you want to test your new thermometer. set your temperature to 350 degrees wait and see if the new thermometer registers to your oven beeping, saying it is at 350. You may need to repeat the process a few times. I had a brand new oven and my first 2 readings were off, but only by 10 degrees. In baking, that’s a lot. By my third try, my thermometer registered 350 degrees at the same time as my oven. If you continue to not match temperatures, you may need to calibrate your oven. You can usually do this easily following manufacturers directions. I’m super satisfied with my purchase.

Answer:	Yes. Remove the two small Phillips-head screws from either side of the "glass." Slide the working part of the unit out of the lower cover. There is a clear plastic strip that helps facilitate removal of the old battery. Replace with an L1154 coin cell. Reverse to reassemble.

Answer:	Clean the area (rubbing alcohol) where you plan to place thermometer. I used a little spit on the two suction cups to get them to hold. It always takes several times to get it to stick & not slide down the glass. Too too much spit made the suction cups slide. As the thermometer gets old the suction cups harden making them harder to stick to the window. My first thermometer lasted about 6 years before the inside battery area corroded. Dont use any adhesive on the suction cups as you will need to remove the thermometer when the CR2032 lithium battery goes (about a year).
Question:	Works for a short time, then fails. Can't see it at night or against some backgrounds. Save your money. Did anyone have a good long time experience
Answer:	I've had no problem with the length of time it works. I've been using this product for many years. You are correct that it is not back lit so you can't see it at night without a light and since it's clear you might not be able to see if it's against a dark back ground. I have found it to be a good product, especially for the price. Now, if I could just get the house mates to stop opening the sliding glass door so much and so quickly, it wouldn't get knocked to the ground so often.
