User questions & answers
Question: | What percentage of package is purple corn |
Answer: | The typical purple corn content is 20%. |
Question: | this states to be Non GMO, but, is it organic |
Answer: | Manna Pro Heritage Cracked Corn with Purple Corn is not currently certified organic. For an organic treat for your chickens, please check out the Manna Pro Organic Scratch Grains. |
Question: | Is cracked purple corn the only ingredient? Looks like there are other grains in the tiny package photo |
Answer: | No! The manufacturer says that it's 20%. Maybe, but it's not much. They are crafty and misleading about saying Cracked Purple Corn in a little circle on the front of the bag, as if that's what you are buying. Nowhere does the packaging mention anything about Non-GMO, however the website states that the purple corn (20%) is non-GMO. They also imply that the bag is non-GMO feed without addressing the yellow corn in the bag. If it's non-GMO, you should be clear about it. If it's not, you shouldn't pretend that it is! |
Question: | What is the full list of ingredients |
Answer: | Crude Protein Min 6.0 % Crude Fat Min 2.0 % Crude Fiber Max 4.0 % INGREDIENTS: Corn |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this designed to be the primary feed for laying hens? Or just scratch, an occasional treat |
Answer: | It's primary feed. The ingredients are really healthy and comes with or without corn. It works well for me because I have just two ducks. They are avid layers and I use their eggs in the kitchen. I mix a little cat food in it for a boost and there is also a fermentation process Scratch and Peck recommends. This process creates a healthy immune system and keeps away illnesses. |
Question: | I ordered and paid for 40lbs and only got a 25lb bag. Who do I contact to fix this |
Answer: | Reach out to the supplier directly or do an online chat with Amazon. |
Question: | does this have the synthetic Vit K supplement (K3) in the ingredients |
Answer: | No, there is nothing synthetic in this food. All ingredients are organic and non-GMO whole ingredients. My girls have been on this brand of food since six weeks old, now 3.5 yrs old still laying, still thriving. Would never feed any other brand. |
Question: | Why does the product description say that it has no corn, but the ingredients list says that it contains corn (fourth ingredient |
Answer: | You must read closely. They sell several different non-GMO 25-lb bags of chicken feed. Several cost $36.99. There's one with corn and one without corn. Their products, as far as I read, are all non-GMO and soy-free. This product does not advertise it has corn. I have used several of the products by this company and have no issues. My chickens like both the corn version and the non-corn version. I still prefer non-corn but trust that this is non-GMO corn. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I bought this and received it, but it just says organic feed. I bought it thinking it was chick feed like my other bag I have. Can chicks eat this |
Answer: | Scratch feed does not have enough protein to serve as a regular feed. It can make them fat and reduce egg production. Scratch feed encourages them to scratch at the ground to seek grit, seeds, bugs, worms--all the things they love and you can appreciate if you want them in your pre-garden or post-garden . You can certainly feed it to them but not as their daily staple feed. Get some organic, non GMO chick, grower, or layer feed to feed your chickens. Free range if at all possible. Best of luck to you and your flock! |
Question: | Is the fish meal in this chick feed is tested for radiation from Fukushima |
Answer: | At this time, our fish meal is not tested for radiation from Fukashima. We are currently using fish meal from Hake (aka Pacific Whiting) which is caught off the coasts of WA and OR. The meal is a by-product of the fish parts not used for human consumption. Hake doesn't have a long life and therefore, there isn't a lot of "junk/stuff" that gets stored in the fat. Have a great day! Scratch and Peck Feeds |
Question: | They do not list all the ingredients. Could someone please tell me if they use canola for the protein. Don't want to give my chicks canola or soy |
Answer: | Go to Scratch and Peck website where they do list ingredients for their feeds. They also state that their products are 100% soy and canola free. You can also call them. I've found them to be very helpful. |
Question: | This says soy free but the ingredients include vegetable oil. What kind of oil is it |
Answer: | Hello,We use 100% organic and Non GMO pressed Flax oil.Pressed from our organic Flax seed! Please let me know if you have any other questions!Thank you,GageScratch and Peck Feeds |

User questions & answers
Question: | I will be having a few pullets soon. how do this food compare to DuMor |
Answer: | I’m really not sure about feeding it to pullets, it is great food but I feed it to my ducks along with a Purina Duck Pellets. It is all seeds, I think they may be too young . I believe that digestion would be a problem, they will need Grit to help with the that. I would contact the company to be absolutely positive. I don’t feed It to our chickens, we have a rather large flock of 21, the cost would be prohibitive. I just want to close by singing the praises of this food, it is great!’ Good luck😉 |
Question: | What are the ingredients, and why are they not posted |
Answer: | Too many to list. |
Question: | Can I use this to sprout grains (grow fodder?) for my chickens? Looking to boost their green intake during the winter months |
Answer: | No. My chickens don't like this mix, but yours may. I purchased grains from Azure Standard and my chickens don't like fodder or the grains. It was also tough not to attract fruit flys and mold. I even rinsed mine with a bit of Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide and still had mold on the bottom. So, I discontinued that quickly. My birds are a picky spoiled bunch! My next experiment $$$ is Organic Chemical Free filler free Alfalfa pellets from the local feed store. My plan is to soak them in filtered warm water to soften them up for easier digestion and to avoid compaction. I also feed mine organic cabbage cut into tiny pieces. My birds love cabbage; though it makes their poo a bit watery. These are some of my experiences and I'm not stating for you to follow. Good Luck! |
Question: | Can I use this for quail |
Answer: | No. Quail are different. Use a high protein wild fowl feed. Amazon carries a few. |
