14 best oriole feeders

Oriole feeders are specialized bird feeders designed to attract and provide food for orioles, which are colorful and vibrant songbirds often found in North America. These feeders are tailored to meet the dietary preferences of orioles and typically feature specific designs and feeding ports to accommodate their unique needs.

Key features and aspects of oriole feeders include:

  1. Design and Construction: Oriole feeders are usually constructed from materials like plastic, glass, or metal. They often have bright, attractive colors, such as orange or yellow, to appeal to orioles.

  2. Perches and Ports: Oriole feeders have perches and feeding ports that are suitable for the size and feeding habits of orioles. These may be larger and more accommodating compared to feeders for other birds.

  3. Fruit and Nectar Holders: Oriole feeders often include areas for offering fruit slices or nectar. Orioles are known to enjoy fruits like oranges, grapefruits, and jelly, as well as nectar from specially designed containers.

  4. Easy to Clean and Fill: The design of oriole feeders typically allows for easy cleaning and refilling to maintain a hygienic feeding environment for the birds.

  5. Hanging or Mounting Options: Oriole feeders can be hung from trees, hooks, or shepherd's hooks. Some may also have options for pole or post mounting.

  6. Ant Guards: Some oriole feeders come with ant guards or moats to prevent ants from reaching the nectar or fruit, ensuring the food remains clean and accessible to the birds.

  7. Rain and Sun Protection: Quality oriole feeders may have features to protect the food from rain or provide shade to keep the nectar fresh and appealing to orioles.

  8. Attractive Designs: Oriole feeders often have aesthetically pleasing designs to enhance the outdoor decor of a backyard, patio, or garden.

  9. Location Placement: Placing oriole feeders in suitable locations, such as near trees or shrubs, can increase the likelihood of attracting orioles to the feeder.

Oriole feeders play a significant role in attracting orioles to your outdoor space, providing them with the necessary nutrition and creating opportunities for birdwatching and appreciation of wildlife. It's essential to maintain a clean and well-stocked feeder to ensure a steady presence of orioles in your outdoor area.

  • Dispense jelly into the tray with the unique jelly stirrer inside the bottle

User questions & answers

Question: Does this really take 1-2 months before it is shipped
Answer: no
Question: Are ants attracted to this feeder
Answer: I did notice ants on the platform of the feeder last time I turned the knob but I have seen bigger ant problems. There is a red cup that you can hang before the feeder. You fill it with water and that helps to prevent the ants from getting to the feeder. I love this feeder and the birds do too.
Question: What material is used for the base
Answer: The base of this feeder is made from durable plastic.
Question: Aren't bees attracted to the jelly? Can you keep them away
Answer: Bees may be attracted to the jelly. If bees are a problem we would recommend removing the feeder for a few days from that location.

Perky-Pet Oriole Jelly Feeder

Did you know that like hummingbirds, orioles have a sweet tooth? They do! What better way to attract them than by offering their favorite sweet treat – jelly! Other jelly feeders on the market expose the jelly to the elements, causing it to mold and spoil quickly. The Perky-Pet Oriole Jelly Feeder has an inverted jelly jar, ensuring that your jelly is kept fresh and covered. The 32 oz jar can also be interchanged with most standard jelly jars. The built-in stirrer allows the perfect amount of jelly to be dispensed into the tray. In addition, this feeder boasts a vibrant orange color to draw more orioles to your yard!

Jelly Remains Fresh Inside the Jar

Jelly that is exposed to the elements quickly spoils and molds, which is bad for your birds. To keep your offerings fresh and protected from the elements, this feeder holds all of the jelly inside the inverted weatherproof jar so it lasts longer. In addition, the included bottle can be swapped with most 32 oz jelly jars, so there’s no need to scoop jelly when refilling. Clean your feeder every few days to ensure that your orioles are receiving the freshest jelly supply.

Circular Feeding Tray and Perches

This jelly feeder features a large circular feeding tray with a wraparound perch so your orioles have plenty of room to feast! Orioles are known to be attracted to the color orange – the tray’s vibrant hue is sure to catch the eye of passing orioles and draw them to your yard.

Built-in Jelly Stirrer

Jelly can be clumpy and sticky. Thanks to the built-in stirrer, this is no longer a problem. This simple device allows the perfect amount of jelly to be distributed into the tray every time. Simply turn the knob on the bottom of the tray to dispense more jelly.

Sturdy Hanging Chain

With the Perky-Pet Oriole Jelly Feeder, you can have ultimate flexibility in placement thanks to the built-in hanging chain and hook. In addition, the chain’s sturdy metal design provides the perfect balance to the tray so it won’t tip under an oriole’s weight.

User questions & answers

Question: Are bees a problem with this feeder
Answer: I have never had a problem with bees with this feeder; I have with other types of feeders. This feeder is very easy to clean.
Question: Is this feeder dishwasher safe
Answer: Believe them when they say this isn't dishwasher safe. I ruined my first one in the dishwasher... I really like these feeders though, so easy to clean, which is very important to me.
Question: Will humming birds drink from this feeder? I want to attract them both but only put out one feeder
Answer: I have 5 of these feeders and am purchasing 2 more. In Northern California where I live humming bird live year round and some migrate here in spring and summer. Orioles migrate here each summer so that is why I changed to these feeders. I use the 4:1 ratio to make my nectar and both hummingbirds and Orioles (also wasps!) will consume this nectar. In the summer I have to fill 6 32oz feeders every day.
Question: So what is the difference between hummingbird feeders and oriole feeders? I am familiar with hummingbirds and have feeders for them, but until now I never knew that there were similiar feeders for orioles. Wouldn't the hummers feed on the oriole feeders also
Answer: The feeding ports are larger on the Oriole feeders. Yes, the hummingbirds will use the Oriole feeders. Orioles can't use the hummer feeders because the feeding ports are too small for their beaks.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this plastic or wood construction
Answer: It is plastic. I have mine for several years and it has held up wonderfully. It is the best Oriole feeder I have ever had.
Question: Can this be hung on a shepherds hook
Answer: Yes it is assembled with loop on top. I hung mine on a shepherds hook worked great!
Question: Is there a hook on the top of this feeder? The picture doesn't seem to show one. Thank you
Answer: it's not a hook it's a cable loop so it hangs on a hook or garden hook. this is a fantastic feeder! well worth the price! really nicely made.
Question: I have wasps or yellow jackets that are feeding at the jelly cup and birds won't approach. How can I prevent yellow jackets from feeding on the jelly
Answer: What about making a DIY pollinator feeder that the wasps can go to instead? I noticed last year when we put out small bowls of water for the birds more bees and wasps drank the water than birds. So this year I am making mason jar bee, wasp and butterfly feeders. I am hoping they go to this instead of the jelly. It will be filled with sugar water like I make for the hummingbird feeders. Just a thought....

User questions & answers

Question: How do you take the base off to fill it with nectar
Answer: It simply snaps off.
Question: The product in the photo is orange, but in the description the color says beige. I’d like to buy this, but orange is the color that attracts orioles
Answer: The one I bought was orange. In my experiece, it is best to believe what a seller states in the description. So, since it says beige, I would buy an oriole feeder from someone else.
Question: We just purchased this type of feeder, but there was no instructions with it to say how to take the base off to fill it with nectar
Answer: Snaps off & slides up hanger wire giving access to nectar reservoir.
Question: Do all oriole feeders have separate compartments under the top cover
Answer: Your question is unclear. Some oriole feeders are like hummingbird feeders with a single container and several feeders from which the bird can drink the syrup. This one is designed similarly with a single container without compartments, and 4 holes on the lid from which the orioles can drink the syrup. The main difference is the lid contains 4 depressed areas, aside from the 4 holes, where you can also place a little jam for the birds to enjoy.

To attract orioles to the feeder, place it in a sheltered southeast location in the yard or garden. Orioles also enjoy dining on fresh oranges and grape or apple jelly. Keep the feeder stocked year-round to nourish any birds that linger through a cold winter, and help tired birds rebuild strength after the long flight north in spring. To deter pesky squirrels, hang the oriole feeder from tree branches as far from the trunk as possible and at least four feet above the ground. For best results, handwash the feeder with equal parts water and white vinegarthis will help protect birds from bacteria and disease. Avoid chemical cleaners that might poison birds. User questions & answers

Question: Does this come with ball ports? one expanded-view shows slits. how can i know i'll get the ball ports
Answer: This feeder features ball ports. We will work to get the photos updated, thank you for pointing this out.
Question: Orioles are coming but liquid food does not appear to be going down. Why
Answer: While it may take some time to see a difference, the nectar levels should be dropping over time as more orioles feed. If this is not happening, feel free to contact us directly at 1-855-737-5973 for additional assistance.
Question: Can hummingbirds also drink from this feeder? Do the bee guards prevent them from accessing the food
Answer: Yes, hummingbirds can drink from it. But the bee guards do not work very well and a swarm of bees hung around the feeder all day. I had to stop using it, so it was a waste of my money.
Question: What type of ports does this have, ball or rubber flap
Answer: This feeder has rubber flap ports.

User questions & answers

Question: Are the dishes glass
Answer: The dishes are plastic.
Question: do you sell replacement cups for the oriole feeder
Answer: The cups are not really necessary and I have found that if you hang the feeder it isn't used as often as if it sits on a flat stationary surface. Also since I have many Orioles that respond to this excellant feeder I find that putting a small diameter bowl works fine and holds enough grape jelly to feed the beautiful birds!
Question: Is this red or orange and if it’s red will it attract orioles
Answer: It's bright orange and mine eat tons of jelly from it. I'm sure they would come to it if it was red as long as you have grape jelly.
Question: Do the squirrels bother or raid the feeder
Answer: yes. and the racoon. My bowls were always on the ground and the orioles were not even coming to it. I bought this feeder below which is wayyy better. First off I get tons of orioles unlike the other guy. Secondly, unobstructed view of the orioles. With this one 2 out of the 4 sides are blockes by a wall. not good. Buy this one below. https://www.amazon.com/Birds-Choice-Flower-Oriole-Feeder/dp/B00ULK4WDA/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1DI3ZHESE6BKY&keywords=birds+choice+oriole+feeder&qid=1558033130&s=gateway&sprefix=birds+choice+%2Caps%2C271&sr=8-2

User questions & answers

Question: Hi, doesn't the jelly and orange halves attract flies? TY
Answer: I put a jelly feeder out at both my house and my bfs house. Had an issue with yellow jackets at my house due to the landlord having a fig tree frequented by wasps in the backyard. Had issues with fruit flies and beetles at my bfs house, but the yard is pretty sparse with few things to attract bees and wasps. So really it depends on your yard as to what will come to the feeder.
Question: Doesn’t the jelly attract bees or ants
Answer: Anything sweet, like jelly, can attract both bees and ants. I see the most Oriole activity in the early spring, a time of year there isn't much bee or ant activity in my area. If ants are a problem, you can use a Trap-It ant moat with the feeder.
Question: What is the single hole on the side of the roof for
Answer: maybe to hang disassembled roof component on wall display or storage?
Question: Can I buy replacement dishes for this feeder
Answer: The feeder takes a standard Anchor Hocking 6-ounce custard cup. Makes swapping out the jelly or mealworms so much easier when you have a stack of clean bowls ready! https://smile.amazon.com/Anchor-Hocking-6-Ounce-Frustration-Packaging/dp/B01BNFLU6S/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=anchor+hocking+6+custard+cup&qid=1562695205&s=lawn-garden&sr=8-5

User questions & answers

Question: Can the Orioles reach the nectar in the bowl if the level gets low or does it always have to be kept full for them to reach it
Answer: While the Orioles went for the nectar in my hummingbird feeders, they never went for the nectar in this feeder! I took my feeder down because in order to put half an orange on the feeder, which was several times a day, the post had to be unscrewed and then screwed back in again, all while trying to keep the sugary nectar from spilling out of the bowl during the process.
Question: Where can I buy bee guard protectors for this feeder? Last year, I had a lot of drowned bees
Answer: This one feeder the bee guards were included
Question: Can wasps and bees get into this feeder
Answer: I have had alot of bees and wasps get into this feeder after the port protectors got damaged. I usually dump out the nectar to free them and they survive.
Question: What anchors the oranges in place
Answer: The middle hanger unscrews and goes through the orange to hold it in place. It is a really cool oriole feeder. I put out oranges the other day and the birds loved it!

  • Built-in ant moat
  • Easy to fill, easy to clean
  • Attracts orioles to your yard and helps you keep them there!

User questions & answers

Question: How often should the nectar and the jelly be changed in the summer
Answer: The nectar should be changed every week if it's not empty. I don't use the jelly--it's too hot in north central Arizona and it's a mess. And for whatever reason our Orioles just don't like using this feeder as much as other designs.
Question: How difficult is this feeder to clean
Answer: easy to clean and does attract orioles very nicely
Question: I purchased this and concerned the spikes will damage the beaks of the orioles
Answer: Put the oranges on the spikes or leave the packaging foam on them. I don't think the spikes are long or sharp enough to do damage to the birds' beaks.
Question: Some have complained of ants and bee problems. Does anyone have a solution for ants and bees
Answer: Woodlink makes a bell-shaped ant guard that works wonderfully! Just keep the Vaseline IN the bell and 1/4” from the edge. I have them for all of my feeders now and haven’t had an ant problem for two years now.
