The Need for Clearance!

Remember it is the squirrel’s weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing its weight on the feeder, it will be able to access the seed. Allow for at least 18 inches or 47 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb onto the feeder triggering the closing mechanism.

Question:	What is screw hole on the bottom of the feeder for
Answer:	Their are drainage holes and the bottom yellow piece detaches from the black feeder portion. The drainage holes don't work well though and the bottom few inches always get water damaged and the birds wont eat it

Answer:	The short answer is yes. BUT those persistent little finches still do a good job of cleaning up the wet seeds as they dry. I have had to take mine apart and clean them periodically to remove stems and other debris that is in the nyjer. By the way, I go through about 50 lbs of nyjer a month and bulk prices are much cheaper.
Question:	I see a couple of reviews stating the seed falls out, and/or gets wet/moldy. How many other people are experiencing these issues as of Oct
Answer:	I bought this a couple of months ago and have had no problems with the feeder, either with seeds falling out or getting moldy. Of course, we haven't had much rain here in SoCal. This feeder is solidly built and the finches love it.

Question:	Does the tray have holes in it so if water does get in it drips out? I'm concerned about the tray collecting water and moldy seeds
Answer:	This is probably the best feeder I have for keeping seeds from getting moldy. I use it for golden safflower and it dries out quickly if it gets wet or snowed on. The tray does have plenty of holes but is shallow so sometimes there is a small amount of build up of wet seed to wipe off but very easy to do.
Question:	I have a problem with morning doves eating the safflower seed that I put out for cardinals. Does anyone know if doves can sit on this feeder
Answer:	Carefully wire the mesh up so that the sitting area is shorter. I did this , little by little, until I got to the height that the morning dives could NOT get on the feeder. Cardinals and smaller birds can still easily feed. Also use safflower seed which eliminates alot of unwanted birds!
Question:	Is this supposed to be squirrel proof
Answer:	Or.....you can put a squirrel feeder for ears of corn nearby so the squirrels have some place to feed.
Question:	Does this feeder work with mixed bird seed? Or only with black oil sunflower seed
Answer:	No. I only use it for black oil sunflower seed. If you use mixed bird seed then the seed will all fall out from the large holes.Several times the squirrels will climb onto the top and tilt it but the sunflower seed will not fall out. Also, it really is squirrel-proof cause the squirrels can only get one seed at a time since the top locks.I love this feeder - it is the best for all birds!

Answer:	I don't remember it having a resealable bag. I also WOULD NOT recommend this seed. the birds in my yard would not eat it - no birds at our feeders. As soon as I went back to the old, more expensive seed I bought at a local store; the birds came back.

Answer:	I don't know what state you live in, but out in California, bees are only attracted to flowers and things which contain pollen. This seed contains no pollen or sugar, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Answer:	No. Tried it with regular birdseed but no birds ate from them. I don't know why, but I will try again with dried mealworms.

Answer:	This feeder will accommodate any birds that prefer to cling or perch when feeding. We do not have a recommendation for preventing a particular type of bird from eating at the feeder.

Answer:	There is a dome over the top. I'm not overly happy with the feeder, though. The birds don't seem to like it much, preferring the net feeder over this one. Seems like maybe it's hard for the birds to get the seed out. Waited too long to return it.

Answer:	Yes it will take finch mix. I usually put in a combo of finch mix and thistle. They eat it all up. Best finch feeder I've ever had.

Hand washed:

2. Soak feeder in a light water/bleach solution (9 parts water to 1 part bleach).

3. Gently cleanse feeder and allow to air dry.

After the feeder is clean and dry follow these steps:

1. Rake and remove accumulated hulls and droppings from underneath the feeders.

2. Spread mulch (bark or wood) under the feeder, replace mulch when soiled.

3. Thoroughly wash hands after handling and cleaning feeders.

Answer:	Yes, it's meant to bury them into the ground. The prongs come in two pieces- 4 prongs total. You interlock one set into another and then hammer the prongs into the ground.

Answer:	I am not sure of their actual rating, but the stability of it will depend on how well it is secured at the base. I could guess by looking at it that as long as the base is well secured each hook could hold 7-12 lbs without compromising the other hooks (assuming each hook is fully loaded). Again, I do not know actual ratings here but that is my impression after seeing it.

Answer:	This feeder is mostly for small birds. Mine attracts American goldfinch, black capped chickadees and red breasted nuthatch's. Some sparrows try to engage but have difficulty with the perch size and holes which I don't mind. I use 3-D Nut N' Berry bird food from Walmart which the small birds love.
