Question: | What do the colors do |
Answer: | The darker the color the more heat the bat house absorbs from the sun. The lighter the color of the less heat the bat house absorbs. |
Question: | Currently have many bats roosting behind my dark green/black shutters. Should I order black? Map says order dark brown |
Answer: | From what I’ve read, areas that suggest using dark brown can also use black. I think it has to do with the colors ability to absorb light/heat for the bats to roost in. |
Question: | How high up |
Answer: | Ideally 12’ or higher. The minimum recommended height is 10 feet off the ground. Thanks |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long on average , before bats actually start living in the box |
Answer: | Two small wood screws are provided and it’s recommended that it be mounted to a tree or the side of a building. It could possibly be mounted to a pole but may not be sturdy enough. |
Question: | Can this be mounted on a metal extending pole |
Answer: | There are many variables to this answer. In theory the box can house 40 plus bats, however, colonies of 20 plus are more realistic. |
Question: | How many bats does it hold |
Answer: | I put the house on the side of the garage when I put excluders on the house. To date, no bats have moved in. But from signs of them on the side of the house, yes they may have dropping accumulate on the ground below the entrance. For that reason I put a board between the bat house and the exterior wall of my garage to space the house about an 1-1/2" out from the wall, but like I said I've no residents yet to prove my theory. |
Question: | When mounted on the side of a barn or house, does it result in bat waste staining the side of the building below |
Answer: | I would definitely use the sizing chart as reference and measure the circumference of your head. My head was 57 cm and the medium fits perfectly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can anyone verify if they actually got bats in them |
Answer: | Yes. I gave my Grandson this bat house for his Birthday last July. Within a week he had several bats take up residence in it. They live in Me. and the mosquitoes were extremely vicious there.. The bats are on the rise, the skeeters are on the decline. |
Question: | How many bats can live in these |
Answer: | 5 bats from the suburbs; and 12 from the inner city. |
Question: | Can you recommend a bat house for south carolina's lowcountry |
Answer: | You really could go either way (dark vs. cedar) considering average temperatures in your area. Looks like your average highs top out at 95 degrees in summer which is probably about max for bats in a dark shaded house, they'd definitely appreciate the extra warmth with your winter lows. Considering that bats prefer to be warm and cozy I think the dark shade would be best. Have a great day! -Matt |
Question: | Does it need a garage below so they can park their batmobiles |
Answer: | A cone of silence is also appreciated. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this ok for Pa?? I saw it was for hot and warm climates |
Answer: | It will be okay for PA, but the dark stained version (follow the link below) will increase the chances for bats to during cool seasons because the darker color draws more heat from the sun. It will also improve chances for bats to hibernate there through winter. https://www.amazon.com/Pre-finished-climates-Environmentally-Responsible-Eco-Friendly/dp/B0752VQY1Y/ref=sr_1_9?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1509097522&sr=1-9&keywords=bat+house |
Question: | Sorry, but I need to know) Do Bats poop in their house and cause a mess down the wall that their house is hung on |
Answer: | Bat poo is an excellent fertilizer. It's known as guano and may be bought at plant nurseries. It's rather expensive. Like worm castings, you only need a small amount per plant. I'm a gardener and would consider it a benefit for my garden. I just wouldn't handle it with my bare hands. |
Question: | where do the bats go in winter? i live in maryland |
Answer: | Some bats hibernate during the winter, usually in caves or mines (or attics), while others migrate to warmer areas where there would be more insects on which to feed. If you have the internet, search for bats that hibernate or migrate. There is plenty of info on bats out there and they are good to have around. |
Question: | I just read that cedar bat house being aromatic wood need to air out for 2 to 4 years for the oils to dry and dissipate before bats move in. True |
Answer: | I think 2-4 years is a little excessive, though I have read research which indicates that the smell of cedar may deter in-habitation. It is for that reason that I also offer a select grade pine version. The select grade lumber has no knots, therefore no sap and no odor. My cedar bat houses are made of western red cedar, not eastern red (aromatic) cedar. Aromatic cedar is what is commonly used to line closets and chests to deter moths and has a much stronger odor. Western Red Cedar does have an odor, and may take a few months to "air out". The vast majority of bat houses sold commercially are made of some sort of cedar, and do successfully attract and house bats. Kind of a long winded answer, if you are still interested in avoiding cedar check out my pine version. I'm currently only offering pine with a dark stain finish which will work for most U.S. climates. Thanks and feel free to contact me with any other questions James! -Matt Applewood Outdoor | Wisconsin Proud |

User questions & answers
Question: | I would like to purchase this but need to ensure that it comes with instructions. Can you confirm |
Answer: | Yes it came with instructions. But basically try to hang on a house, tree or post, at least 12 feet off the ground, away from branches that predators could use. Away from bright lights and noise. Water like a pond or bird bath ideal nearby. Should get at least a few hours of sunlight, South or east facing ideal. They will defecate so keep that in mind... Look out Below. |
Question: | Can you post the instructions that came with the bat box |
Answer: | My apologies that your bat house didn't come with the instruction manual. There must have been an error in regards to the shipping process. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't allow me to post the PDF in this message or on the page. However, I would love to send you a copy of the instructions. To contact our team please go to the product listing on Amazon.com and click our company's name on the right-hand side that says 'Sold by Wildlife Seekers USA', then click the Ask a question button, go to Your Orders, find your order in the list, and click Contact Seller. This will allow us to email you your own copy of the instructions. We look forward to your reply. Warm regards, David |
Question: | Does it have groves or webbing |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. The bat house has grooves in the wood that allow for easy access and longevity as webbing can tear over time and injure bats if they get stuck. |
Question: | Is it too late in the season (Late June) to think the bats will move from the chimney to the bat house |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. Common bat species will be out of hibernation right now. Bats will often be on the lookout for suitable shelters when they forage at night. There is a good chance that the bats will quickly take up shelter in a correctly positioned bat house, especially if they are becoming agitated in the chimney. |
- Weatherproof: Made from handcrafted cedar and varnished with weatherproof materials, this bat house can withstand most weather patterns including snow, rain, cold, and heat

Bats naturally search for new places to roost every night. The space of our bat house allows for a full colony to roost, and has grooved interiors for them to hang on to. Try and hang your house in an area that gets plenty of sunlight throughout the day and some shade at some point as well.

- Designed for Bats – This Kenley bat house has been developed using available research on bat preferences and needs. The specially engineered interior and exterior perches make it easy for bats to land and roost. It is a large bat box with two chambers, the external dimensions are 15"x9.2"x3.2".
- Naturally Weatherproof – Handcrafted from high-quality cedar wood, this Kenley bat house will keep rain and snow out, and will last years as cedar is naturally resistant to rot and decay. It’s also stained a dark color, as bats associate this with warmth (in cold climates) and privacy.
- Popular with Bats – When installed in bat territory, the Kenley bat shelter has an 80% chance of being occupied. This is far higher than single-room models. The Kenley bat house has a 2-room interior which forms a grooved and well-spaced inside roosting area. In addition, it has a rough platform and skerfs to make landing easy.
- Easy to Install – This Kenley bat house is shipped pre-assembled, which ensures a secure and dry habitat for the bats and an easy installation for you. A sturdy hanger hook lets you easily mount it on a pole, tree or wall. Mount about 12-20 feet (3.7-6.1m) high in a sheltered spot with direct sunlight to attract local bats
- Free Mosquito Elimination – Most bat species eat insects, often consuming their own weight in a single night. This makes them our perfect allies when dealing with mosquitoes, beetles, caterpillars and other insects which bite, sting or damage crops and garden plants. Many bat populations are at risk, so an outdoor bat house is a great alternative to the use of chemicals.

The Kenley Bat Shelter comes with a mounting hook at the back and information about bat preferences. Bats fly to their roosts, so the house should be at least 12 feet above the ground. Choose a spot that's sheltered from the wind yet gets direct sunlight for 4 or more hours a day. Please bear in mind that installing a bat house does not mean you'll see bats. Bats are wild animals and it may take several months for local bats to discover your bat house. Never disturb roosting bats.
