Offering: Live At Temple University documents a legendary concert by John Coltrane at Temple University in his hometown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 11, 1966, six weeks after his fortieth birthday and nine months before his untimely death.



Offering, available on September 23, 2014 in a deluxe gatefold 2LP set, incorporating a look that is contiguous with the graphic identity of Impulse! Records, Coltrane's exclusive label from 1961 until the end of his life. This is the first officially sanctioned release of an undiscovered, complete Coltrane performance since 2005. It captures Coltrane in exemplary form, navigating the language he had developed during the last phase of his musical path with passion and pellucid logic.



Operating at equivalent levels of invention and energy are three members of his working quintet of one year's standing his wife, Alice Coltrane, on piano; Pharoah Sanders on reeds and flute; and Rashied Ali on drums.



Offering is emblematic of the efflorescent energies and radical ideas that Coltrane himself had much to do with bringing forth during the seven years after 1960, when he left the employ of Miles Davis to pursue his vision as a leader. There are versions of Coltrane s 1960 hits Naima and My Favorite Things, a transformational reworking of the 1964 ballad Crescent, a spirit-raising rendering of Leo, which he had recorded on several previous occasions during 1966, and the hymnal Offering, which he would record on a February 15, 1967 studio session that Impulse! would release during the 90s as Spiritual Offering.



On Offering, Resonance Records achieves the highest possible audio quality, using direct transfers of original master reels from a location recording by Temple s WRTI-FM, remastered at 96kHz/24 bit, that were tracked down by Coltrane scholar Yasuhiro Fujioka. The 2-LP set is mastered for vinyl by state-of-the-art engineer Bernie Grundman and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at 33-1/3 rpm by audiophile avatars R.T.I. (Record Technology Inc.). The LP release also includes a limited edition collector's postcard set containing previously unpublished photos of John Coltrane by Frank Kofsky.

The immense life-force that animates the proceedings on this November 1966 evening in Philadelphia belies the declining state of Coltrane s health. It is still difficult to grasp and to accept that he was firmly in the grip of the liver cancer that would still his voice on July 17, 1967. As co-producer Ashley Kahn states in his liner notes, Coltrane was pointing the way forward for generations of players to come, pushing the music to exhilarating, spiritual heights that caught most by surprise. In 1966, that wasn't what jazz performances were about, not yet.

Only a few musicians have dared to venture into the sound of Jarresque music (Oxygene, Equinoxe). Be it the fear of being denounced as a plagiarist, or because these sounds just do not seem to be demanded. Now and again, a few songs pop up with elements reminiscent of Jarre; impacting on today's 'Electronic Music'. But entire albums in a kind of a Jarresque style can be found very rarely.

Despite the above points which could have potential for conflict for a musician, I've created my own 'continuation' of the spherical sounds á la Jean Michel Jarre - just for me, not for the 'market' or the 'scene'. In the meantime, after several years of free downloads of the album from the vastness of the Internet, after changing servers and some surprisingly good response to my tribute to Jarre and his glittering, bubbling soundscapes, now HYDROLUX will find its final place here. Question:	Does this come with a storage bag
Answer:	No
Question:	My dog chewed it in half any suggestions for repair
Answer:	I have repaired them successfully. However, you do have to 1: get a specific 1/2" hose repair...not the standard 1/2-3/4 hose repair as the generic size will be too big. I have purchased two of these 1/2 repairs. Actually, I took a 50' hose that broke, and made a 25' and two 12'. One of the 1/2" plastic pieces broke...so I put a stainless steel band clamp on it and then wrapped it with rubberized tape to avoid injury from the band clamp. 2: Cut the cloth back a little as it will not slip over the 1/2 nipple of the repair part. THe inner pieces goes on well, but then trying to pull the out skin over...not so well. But, a 1/2 cut in the outer piece provides enough to pull up to the connector edge...and then put the bracket or band clamp around it and lock it down tight. SO far, the other brand of 1/2" repair is holding. But, if it breaks, no big deal...I'll put another band clamp on it. Bottom line...one 50' hose made three hoses. Hope this helps.
Question:	How does it differ from their regular hose which is also drinking water safe
Answer:	The regular hose gets pin holes and leaks easily. Ive returned 2 of them. I will never buy the regular one again. This hose is significantly stronger.

Question:	Draging accross concrete unwinding from reel. How does it hold up
Answer:	My experience was has not been good with this hose. It kinks as bad if not worse than any other house I have had. It's not as flexible as they advertise either. Also, about a month after I got it a leak developed around where the faucet connecter hardware meets the hose. I don't drag it across concrete so not sure about that but I definitely would never buy another one of these hoses.
Question:	What happens when the temperature goes below
Answer:	I had no problem with the hose at 40 degrees--but because I live in a cold area (near Buffalo NY), I always bring hoses in for the winter!

Answer:	I have the brass colored one but mine is the 75' long one, ( 8642-(75) )

Answer:	Yes. I have mine on a standard wall mounted reel. It wraps around just fine.

Answer:	Easily snakes back and forth 3 time in a 4’ wide bed - 4 times in a 5’ wide bed. I’ve used landscape staples to hold hose down on curves because it’s still a bit cold here

Answer:	The cardboard packaging that came with the hose only says "Made In USA". Check the Dramm website and it may tell you where in the USA they are located or a contact number. I have found that this hose does tend to kink more with age - but no more than any other hose. It is definitely excellent quality.
Question:	Will this hose stand up to vehicles running over it? I need a hose that I can run across the road and will withstand an occassional car
Answer:	I dont leave them out in the snow and probably wouldnt either.
Question:	What makes a rubber hose better than vinyl
Answer:	Interesting question! This is new "news" to me. I have double-length hose + nozzle coiled outside on west side of building with some daily sun exposure. So far, no cracking, fading, or kinking but also no direct long-term exposure to hot sun. I'd check with manufacturer in Manitowoc, WI 920/684.0227. Good Luck!
Question:	Has anyone tried storing it in a hose pot? Is it easy to coil? Putting away my current hose after watering is like fighting a cobra
Answer:	This is not a potable water hose. I have two sections here in Washington that have been in service for years and still are excellent. I have one new section on my boat in Hawaii and it seems to be holding up well. Just don't drink out of it. Get a potable water hose and use a filter.
