Answer:	I usually put my hand on the top of the roll when I rip a sheet of paper towel off - just to keep it steady. The rack is actually pretty steady, but if you try to just pull a sheet off, you pull the entire rack- you need something to hold the rack in place.

Answer:	I have no smell coming from the rubberized black center, or noticed one when I received it, it maybe the newness of the recently made formed rubber center or base of the holder.

Answer:	The bottom is a pad made of something like rubber foam. It feels kind of like craft foam kids would cut shapes out of but sturdier. If it gets wet, it dries quickly - this happens to me often as my faucet is high, so water splashes out of the sink. It has never been an issue, and I'm quite OCD about the kitchen. If it got wet, you could just dry it off with a paper towel or towel. This is the best paper towel holder I've ever had and I've had it for a few years. It looks really nice and you can easily get a paper towel off with one hand. I highly recommend it!

Answer:	No it fits perfectly with all paper towels that I use. I use standard size & giant double roll paper towel & have no problems.
