11 best nutrients for cannabis
Nutrients for cannabis refer to the essential elements and compounds necessary for the healthy growth and development of cannabis plants. These nutrients are important for cannabis cultivation, whether it's for recreational or medicinal purposes. Properly balanced nutrients are crucial for maximizing yields and the quality of the final product. Here is some information about nutrients for cannabis:
Primary Nutrients: Cannabis plants require three primary nutrients in relatively large quantities:
- Nitrogen (N): Nitrogen is essential for leaf and stem development, as well as overall plant growth.
- Phosphorus (P): Phosphorus is important for root development, flowering, and fruiting.
- Potassium (K): Potassium contributes to overall plant health and helps with the development of flowers and fruits.
Secondary Nutrients: These nutrients are needed in smaller quantities than primary nutrients but are still essential:
- Calcium (Ca): Calcium is necessary for cell wall formation and overall plant structure.
- Magnesium (Mg): Magnesium is a central component of chlorophyll, essential for photosynthesis.
- Sulfur (S): Sulfur is involved in enzyme functions and protein production.
Micronutrients: Cannabis plants also require trace amounts of micronutrients or trace elements. These include iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), boron (B), molybdenum (Mo), and chlorine (Cl). While needed in small quantities, they are essential for specific biochemical processes within the plant.
Nutrient Ratios: The ideal nutrient ratios for cannabis cultivation can vary depending on the growth stage. During the vegetative phase, a higher nitrogen ratio is beneficial, while during flowering, a shift to higher phosphorus and potassium ratios is recommended.
Organic vs. Synthetic Nutrients: Cannabis growers can choose between organic and synthetic nutrients. Organic nutrients are derived from natural sources and are often considered more sustainable. Synthetic nutrients are chemically formulated and offer precise control over nutrient ratios.
Nutrient Delivery: Nutrients can be delivered to cannabis plants through various methods, including:
- Soil: Nutrients can be mixed into the soil before planting.
- Hydroponics: Cannabis can be grown in a soilless medium with nutrient-rich water.
- Soil Amendments: Organic matter like compost can be added to enrich the soil.
- Fertilizers: Specific cannabis fertilizers are available in liquid, powder, or granular forms.
Nutrient Deficiencies and Excesses: Over- or under-supplying nutrients can lead to various issues, including nutrient deficiencies (e.g., yellowing leaves) or nutrient toxicity (e.g., leaf burn). Monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels is crucial for plant health.
pH Levels: Maintaining the proper pH level of the growing medium (soil or water) is essential for nutrient uptake. Cannabis plants generally thrive in a pH range between 6.0 and 7.0.
Flush and Pre-Harvest: Before harvesting, growers often "flush" the plants by giving them plain water to remove excess nutrients and improve the final product's flavor and quality.
Understanding the nutritional needs of cannabis plants is fundamental for successful cultivation.Growers must carefully manage nutrient levels, pH, and other environmental factors to ensure healthy growth and maximize the quality and quantity of the harvested cannabis.

Soil Feeding Schedule
Use your preferred FoxFarm potting soil when transplanting seedlings into larger containers. We recommend a two gallon size or larger. FOR BEST RESULTS: Feed up to two times per week. Maintain a pH of 5.6 to 6.8 to prevent nutrient lockout and reduce stress on plants. Never mix pure concentrates together; always add water first. Should plants show signs of stress or color irregularities, flush your system. When using coco-based media, flush every two weeks during the flowering cycle as coco has a tendency to retain unwanted salt residue more than peat-based soils.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product have an expiration date? I am aware that this product is granular, but is it water soluble to use as a root drench for seedlings |
Answer: | I was a little nervous when I first mixed up a batch and sprayed weeds. It honestly takes three to five days to see results. |
Question: | NPK ratio here? - Thanks |
Answer: | This weed killer also has a seed germination preventer that last about a year. I would not recommend RM43 for your weeds. Round-up is what you should use. |
Question: | Does the package show an expiration date? How long will the product stay "alive |
Answer: | A and B can not be mixed in concentrate, but can be mixed in dilution in your feed water up to 5 days before use. If you use a bubbler in your water then it can be used up to 7 days before use. Thanks! |
Question: | Is this to strong to use on sprouts and seedlings |
Answer: | Hi! Yes it does. Base AB has: Iron, Boron, Copper, Molybdenum, Manganese, Zinc, and Sulfur. All of these minerals are in organic acid and amino acid chelated forms which makes them much easier for bacteria in the soil to digest and for the plant to accept. None of True’s products are chelated with the industrial chemical EDTA like other brands. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do i add this to water that is already balanced or do i mix it then set pH for my needs. I guess what im asking is is it neutral |
Answer: | I have to very slightly adjust PH, down, as always, after adding nutes. My tap water has a TDS of 90-ish ppm and a PH of 8 out of tap. When mixed in 5 gallon buckets... I add 20 ml of each ( Micro, Grow, Bloom: in that order) I end up with a TDS of 480 - 500 ppm and a PH of 6.2 ish. Growing hydro lettuce (Kratky and DWC) So I drop 4-5 drops of PH Down in the bucket and things look good, dropping PH into the high 5's. |
Question: | I dont see how often you apply just the strenght |
Answer: | On the website it says that if you dump your reservoir once a week then you can top it off with just plain water in between. The table on the bottle is not for any photoperiod plants so please check their website as they do have a feeding schedule for photoperiod plants, such as medical marijuana. They will not answer any questions regarding marijuana so never say or use any term referring to marijuana. So far this may be my favorite hydro fertilizer I have used, it's easy to use, helps stabilize PH and has made my plants grow much faster, not to mention how great the root growth is. |
Question: | Approximately how many gallons of nutrient solution will this make |
Answer: | 1 (US) fluid ounce, equals 6 (US) teaspoons. So it's 6 times the amount of ounces in bottle for the total amount of teaspoons telling you how many gallons you can get. With a 32 oz bottle if you use one teaspoon per gallon of water that's 102 gallons of mix. 204 gallons of mix if you only use half a teaspoon. |
Question: | Is it necessary to mix 2 tonics together? How much tonic do I use if I have a 20 gallon reservoir |
Answer: | I grow in soil. The soil I use is already rich in nutrition "Happy Frog". I use about 1/2 teaspoon of FloraGro & 1/2 teaspoon FloraMicro per Gallon of water. I water every 3 to 4 days depending on the Moisture of the soil. Every 3rd feeding I flush the plants with pure water and let the soil to dry until I notice stress in the plant and resume feeding. When it's time to induce flowering I quit using FloraGro. And start using 1 teaspoon FloraBloom and 1 teaspoon FloraMicro and follow the same feeding schedule as above. The FloraMicro is very important for overall health and vigor of the plant. About 10 days before harvest I flush with a 1/2 teaspoon FloraBloom and FloraMicro, 5 days before harvest I flush with pure water and let dry out for 5 to 6 days then harvest. Very IMPORTANT! Is the Ph of your water after adding your fertilizer and when you flush with pure water. I keep my Ph @ 6.0 Just a helpful hint. Happy growing! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this affect my soil with nutrient lockout for future grows. Will it ruin my soil |
Answer: | There is a misconception about mycorrhizae not staying alive, each product has a two year shelf life, it |
Question: | Does it make your flowers sweeter |
Answer: | Brother this stuff is as amazing of an addition as mykos and azos. I put directly in contact with seedlings in soil and sprinkle a super small amount right on taproot and drip water on it. When I transplant 0 shock thanks to this!!! |
Question: | Can washing purchased market produce with this product remove off tastes |
Answer: | Added recommended amount of Glyphosate (as listed on the container) to water. Applied mixture with a watering can. Application is faster and there is no stray spray to worry about. |
Question: | What are the listed ingredients |
Answer: | I'm not sure? HOWEVER, it appears once it gets to the roots of ANY living thing, it will kill it. Be careful of the trees, and apply ONLY to the roots of the ivy and honey suckle the furtherest away from the trees first. Give it 3-5 days and see what happens. I know for me, it killed everything and nothing grew in that area for almost 9 months. This is why you need to be mindful of the trees. |
