Question:	Would this meter work for checking the ph of compost
Answer:	We advise 3 month or more.you don't have to calibrate it frequently.This refractometer is equipped with ATC automatic temperature compensation system, once calibrated, the change of working temperature within +/-30℃ wouldn't effect the accuracy of reading result.you can calibrate it more if you want to make sure the best accuracy. And the calibration is not complicated at all. Just need a few drops of distilled water and adjust the result to "0", you'll finish the calibration in minutes by following the instruction

Answer:	At the beginning of your brew day. I've had the meter for 2 years, and though I check it every time I start, I have only had to recalibrate it about 3x. It is a rock solid instrument and a pleasure to use. You will find yourself checking gravity more often as it is so easy and efficient. Don't forget you will need to use a calculation tool (ie: Brewersfriend.com) to account for the alcohol in solution when doing a final gravity reading with it.

Since soil most often is in/close to neutral state (with pH value of 7), it is highly likely that you find the needle in display window stay still (because the default pH value is set at somewhere between 7 and 8) when you use it to test the pH value of soil. Does this come with the leather case

Answer:

This is primarily used for measuring the ABV of Distilled spirits. If you were checking the alcohol content before any other additives, it may work for what you need. Once you start adding other ingredients, it may distort your results. Also, dark colored liquids can distort your results as well. Even if you used a float proofing hydrometer, you would need to check alcohol content before adding other ingredients. Thickening agents will distort results.

Answer:	The Garden Tutor Soil pH Test Strips are calibrated for soil testing only, so just dipping the test strips into straight water won't give you an accurate pH reading of the water. The strips use reagents that react to the presence of dissolved solids/minerals found in soils.

So if you are getting truly inconsistent readings, it could be that there are contaminants in your soil that are skewing the results. Question:	Can you use this also to check the ph in water before you water your plants or just soil
Answer:	Thank you for your excellent question. The pH of the water can affect your results. In areas that have excessively hard water (water with lots of minerals in it), the pH of the water will be strongly alkaline (pH of 8.5 and higher), and this can impact the reading you will get from your Garden Tutor Soil pH Test Strips. The impact is typically about .5 of a point for pH, but the drift can be up to 1 point. For most gardeners getting a pH reading within .5 of a point is sufficient. Most municipal tap water has a pH of 6.5 to 8.5, so using tap water will be OK but may cause your reading to be off about .5 of a point. If you want to get the best reading possible from your test strips, it's a good idea to use fresh unopened distilled water. You can check the manufacturing date on the unopened distilled water container, and if it is under 30 days old, it should be about a 7.0 pH. When using distilled water, you can be assured that you will be getting the most accurate soil pH reading possible. One of the main reasons distilled water is used for soil pH testing is that it has a low "buffer capacity" and will not meaningfully impact the actual pH reading of a soil sample. It is important to note that the Garden Tutor Soil pH Test Strips are calibrated for soil testing only, so just dipping the test strips into straight water won't give you an accurate pH reading of the water.
