Answer:	I purchased mine for testing the spoil pH and watering needs and they both seem to be very accurate. I do not know how accurate it is for light testing. I do not know what your application is for, but if it's to see how much light is present for growing a garden, then you need a minimum of 6 hrs of sunlight a day, preferably 8. Of course it also depends on what you are trying to grow, some plants need much more than others.

Some plants like to be moist and some are drought resistant and can tolerate a lack of water and others like flowers need to be water more often because they wither quickly. if you have soil that is a mixture of clay then the clay will hold moisture and the plant won't need water as often. You can go on line and there is a wealth of information including how to water and care for any plant you have. Question:	what does "plug and read" mean? I'm wondering if there are no batteries, does this have to be plugged in, does it charge from an outlet
Answer:	Hi, After dipping your test strip into the soil/water mix the test strip pads should match one of the vertical columns on the color chart which will correspond to a given pH number. Question:	Soil ph is reading an 8 on every soil does anyone have issues with the soil ph. i even tried in a soil that's ph is
Answer:	The Garden Tutor Soil pH Test Strips are calibrated for soil testing only, so just dipping the test strips into straight water won't give you an accurate pH reading of the water. The strips use reagents that react to the presence of dissolved solids/minerals found in soils.
Question:	My meter just came in and it is showing wildly different readings when I test the same exact spot
Answer:	Hi, Thank you for your question. The Garden Tutor pH test strips are designed to help you zero in on your soil's pH level. So if you are getting truly inconsistent readings, it could be that there are contaminants in your soil that are skewing the results. You should also double-check your results and make sure you are following the test instructions and interpreting your results correctly. The goal is to find the column on the color chart that best matches the colors on the pH strip from top to bottom. This can take a little work. Question:	Can you use this also to check the ph in water before you water your plants or just soil
Answer:	Thank you for your excellent question. The pH of the water can affect your results. In areas that have excessively hard water (water with lots of minerals in it), the pH of the water will be strongly alkaline (pH of 8.5 and higher), and this can impact the reading you will get from your Garden Tutor Soil pH Test Strips. The impact is typically about .5 of a point for pH, but the drift can be up to 1 point. For most gardeners getting a pH reading within .5 of a point is sufficient. Most municipal tap water has a pH of 6.5 to 8.5, so using tap water will be OK but may cause your reading to be off about .5 of a point. If you want to get the best reading possible from your test strips, it's a good idea to use fresh unopened distilled water. You can check the manufacturing date on the unopened distilled water container, and if it is under 30 days old, it should be about a 7.0 pH. When using distilled water, you can be assured that you will be getting the most accurate soil pH reading possible. One of the main reasons distilled water is used for soil pH testing is that it has a low "buffer capacity" and will not meaningfully impact the actual pH reading of a soil sample. It is important to note that the Garden Tutor Soil pH Test Strips are calibrated for soil testing only, so just dipping the test strips into straight water won't give you an accurate pH reading of the water. How To Use

Step 1: Push the switch to moisture/pH/light position

Step 2: Stick the probes into the soil 4-6 inches (2/3 of the probes)

Step 3: Adjust the position of the probes until the pointer on the dial swing slightly

Step 4: After 10 minutes, note moisture/pH/light level in the dial

Step 5: Remove probes from soil and wipe clean after each use

Warm Tips:

1: This soil meter CAN ONLY be used in soil. DO NOT use it to test any liquids directly, such as pure water, lemon juice, vinegar and so on, or the probes may be damaged

2: DO NOT insert the soil meter into very hard soil or touch hard objects, easy to damage the probes

3: This soil meter cannot accurately gauge the intensity of grow lights because most light bulbs lack the full spectral range of sunlight. To maximize the accuracy of sunlight readings, point the light sensor at the top front of the meter toward the sun

4: DO NOT leave the probes inserted in soil longer than necessary to make a measurement
