14 best pole saw pruner
A pole saw pruner is a specialized gardening tool used for trimming and pruning tree branches that are out of reach. It is a versatile tool that combines the features of a saw and pruner, allowing you to cut branches cleanly and efficiently without the need for a ladder. Here are some key features and information about pole saw pruners:
Design: A pole saw pruner typically consists of a long pole (often made of lightweight materials like aluminum) with a cutting head at the end. The cutting head contains a saw blade or bypass pruner, depending on the model.
Types:
- Manual Pole Saw Pruner: These require physical effort to operate, as you extend the pole to reach high branches and then manually cut or prune by pulling a rope or operating a lever.
- Powered Pole Saw Pruner: These are equipped with a small gasoline engine or an electric motor that powers the cutting mechanism. They are easier to use for larger jobs and are ideal for heavy-duty pruning.
Uses:
- Tree Pruning: Pole saw pruners are primarily used for trimming and pruning tree branches, especially those that are too high to reach with hand tools.
- Landscaping: They are useful for maintaining the shape and size of trees and shrubs in gardens and landscapes.
- Safety: Pole saw pruners help avoid the need for climbing ladders or using dangerous tools to reach high branches, enhancing safety during tree maintenance.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as keeping the blade sharp and lubricating moving parts, is essential for the efficient operation of a pole saw pruner.
Safety Tips:
- Always wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and eye protection.
- Be cautious of falling branches when pruning high up in trees.
- Maintain a secure grip on the pole to prevent accidents.
Choosing the Right Tool: When selecting a pole saw pruner, consider factors like the height you need to reach, the type of branches you'll be cutting, and your physical strength. Additionally, consider whether a manual or powered model suits your needs best.
Popular Brands: Various brands offer pole saw pruners, such as Stihl, Husqvarna, Fiskars, and Remington. Research and read reviews to find the one that fits your requirements.
In summary, a pole saw pruner is a valuable tool for gardeners and homeowners looking to maintain trees and shrubs by safely reaching and pruning high branches. Whether you choose a manual or powered model depends on the scale of your pruning tasks and personal preferences. Proper maintenance and safety precautions are essential when using these tools.

User questions & answers
Question: | there are 2 different holes to choose from to screw on the head (either farther/closer to the edge). Which is more effective/what is the difference |
Answer: | The two holes allows you to change the angle of the saw with respect to the pole. It make a difference on the angle you are sawing from and accessiblity to diffeerent limbs. Most of the stuff I saw is no more tha about 15 feet from the ground so I've set mine on the hole closest the the tooth edge of the saw. For a higher limb or to gain better access to a limb that might be partiallym block I would move the saw to less of angle to the pole. It makes a difference on the leverage you can put on the saw and the space you have to manipulate the saw. There isn't a whole lot of difference between the two settings but sometimes a little difference is all you need |
Question: | Do you just pull and hold the rope or is there some kind of motion you need to do. I see no instructions |
Answer: | The rope activates the cutting blade. For small limbs you can hold the shaft in the one hand and pull with the other until the limb is cut, but for the biggest limb that can fit into cutter you will need the brace the end of the shaft on the ground or against you. Blade is spring loaded and resets itself unless a piece of bark wedges between the blade and the guard |
Question: | is the rope detachable from the device for easy opersation when using only the saw part |
Answer: | The rope is easy to detach; however, there is no "only the saw part". I think what you're asking is does the lever, chain and compound pull mechanism interfere with sawing-- It can and does. It also interferes with pruning but the increased force for "pruning" is worth it. I would not want to remove the mechanism from pole, in fact the saw blade attaches to the mechanism. With the increased force the need for the saw is reduced but I kept the pole and saw from my old worn out pruner for when I need to use a pole saw. Overall I'm quite happy with this TP6870 , Corona doesn't make junk. |
Question: | Is a replacement part available for the Plastic Clamping Nut? It WILL crack (I have 3 of these) soon after you have had too long to return it |
Answer: | Terrible engineering is it not? Just drill a small hole 3/32 works good about 2 inches below the nut and insert a bolt. for extending the saw pull it out 3 feet or so and drill another hole and then it will lock securely there as well. another nice thing to do is go to the dollar store and get some small carabineer key chain things and use them to secure the cord that works the lopper , then you can detach is while sawing. do these 2 things and you have a great t tool. |
- EXTRA LONG EXTENSION – Pole extends to a towering 16 feet high, so you can effectively reach all those branches that used to be too high up to take care of.

- COMFORTABLE USE – Pole is made from high grade fiberglass making it lightweight and easy to handle, but still strong and durable to last you through years of use. The foam at the handle provides a soft surface to grip the pole with.
- PULLY SYSTEM - The double tackle compound pulley system is there to helps you cut through thick branches with the least effort on your part

User questions & answers
Question: | I am sorry, but my question is very basic (never used any sort of pruner before). In what position the blade should be and how to adjust it right |
Answer: | I found keeping the blade straight and standing back from the tree (instead of right underneath) best for cutting. You pull the blade towards you to cut, lift the blade place it on the branch and pull towards you lift blade and place it into the cut and repeat till cut off. |
Question: | is the woodzig an attachment or a separate tool used to cut larger branches |
Answer: | The woodzig is the long blade used to cut/saw the branches. Everything you need comes in the package. There are no other attachments needed. |
Question: | I have a juniper tree that needs pruning. The branches are about 3" - 4" in diameter. Will the Woodzig saw deal with these branches |
Answer: | I have cut branches that thick, but it was difficult--especially if you have to reach a long distance. Having said that, understand that I am 74 years old. The 9301 can do the job. |
Question: | What is the length of this pruner when it is NOT extended? I'm wondering for storage purposes |
Answer: | Some where over 6 ft with blade folded down (TIP: when you receive pruner, cut two pieces of cardboard from the box you receive it in to make a slip cover for the blade while on pole.. just heavy tape three sides. and then slide blade between the card board at open end.. this protects the blade and you while not in use..) |

Question: | I am having trouble with the pruning head. When it close to make a cut, the spring does not reopen the “jaw.” I must use my hand. Defective or |
Answer: | This is a common problem with these pruners. The bulk of the time its due to debris or stickiness buildup on the blade and/or hook. Over time the spring will also get weak but can be easily replaced for a couple dollars. Despite the issue these are great pruners, the issue just goes with the territory. |
Question: | Does it come with both pruner attachment and saw head attachment |
Answer: | Yes, it does. I love it. The new saw blade is very very sharp. Pruner can cut/trim stem about 1 inch or thicker; very sharp too, with little force/effort. |

Question: | Will the poles from the notch big shot launcher fit together with these poles |
Answer: | Before you press button to order scroll down until you see (frequently bought together) thats the kind of oil to use, plus you can buy separate, scroll down farther, have same kind of oil, just sold separately. |
Question: | how meny feet long is it |
Answer: | Unfortunately it does not come installed, and that is perhaps the most challenging part of the whole process. Just read the instructions carefully and take your time getting it with the right amount of tension. Also this unit does not come with specific oil (Bar & Chain oil) needed for the operation. Once put together, it will cut, it will slice, it will dice like Edward Scissorhands |
Question: | I already have poles can I buy the saw head only |
Answer: | If you are asking about the ability to detach and use the chain saw without the pole, the answer is NO! There are other models suck as the SWJ807E that are detachable to use as both a chain saw and a pole saw. Hope this answers your question! AA Plus |
Question: | Will the bigshot head fit the polls |
Answer: | Before you order this scroll down until you see (frequently buy together) this is kind of oil to use, scroll farther down buy oil separately. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with "jameson ph-34-pkg ja professional series big mouth tree pruner kit with 1-3/4-inch capacity bypass cut |
Answer: | It is better to be covered with soil |
Question: | What is the maximum number of extension pole sections that can be used with a base pole for practical purposes |
Answer: | In central Wisconsin we planted this in a very shady area where we had mostly moss growing because the grass just could not grow there. It has done very well and filled in everywhere except an area of about a five foot radius directly beneath a large sugar maple tree. The patch there is probably due also to the nutrients and water being consumed by the tree. We were prepared for failure with this but were pleasantly surprised by how well it filled in. We have very extreme temperatures and this has not been a problem. It is also an attractive grass (blade thickness) and germinated well, grew quickly with adequate watering. Took a second summer to fill in to a dense cover after planting in late summer. |
Question: | can be use with the JA-34 big mouth pruner |
Answer: | I think I may have made a mistake and used this. I have cool season grass but I don’t think it is tall fescue. I have more bluegrass than anything. |
Question: | Are wood poles lighter 6 foot |
Answer: | Dead, but.... I live in central Florida and this grass came up great and then died during the summer heat. I planted it again in November, again it came up very well, and it looks pretty good now. I'm hoping it will live through March when I sell my house. I know it will not survive the summer heat here in Florida. It is not a southern grass. I have no complaints about the seed. It's just not suited for the deep south. |
