Answer:	Carol, I wouldn't use them for pruning trees except for smallest of branches. They aren't really designed for anything too large. I've used them to cut back some small bushes and they did fine and they also worked on my outside plants, but a thick hardwood would probably be to much for them.

They work very well in the aforementioned fruits, etc. They aren’t top of the line construction and I think the spring might get sticky if you use it for a lot of wet things. Answer:	I would say NO! These are light duty scissors for removing fruits, leaves and such from garden plants. I use a folding knife to break down boxes for the trash. Maybe a box cutter is what you are looking for?
