Answer:	Agree with those who say spikes do nothing to aerate a lawn. You do not see any commercial lawn care professionals use spikers. You need to plug to make any difference.

Answer:	That's what I used them for. It really depends how much top soil you have in that bare spot. If there's not enough, you might want to add some fill to it before aerating. If there's enough soil depth, then aerating with these will be fine for reseeding in existing lawn or in bare spots. Be sure that you've dethatched any of the bare spots so that you're seeding in soil and not on dead grass (thatch)
