If you use a more powerful charger, make sure you increase the number of ground rods in the ground system. Avoid using different metals in your electric fence. In damp conditions, when an electric current passes through the differing metals, electrolysis will occur. For example, using stainless steel ground rods and an aluminum leadout wire will cause problems. In a short space of time, the aluminium will disintegrate. If possible, keep the wire joints above the soil to improve airflow and reduce electrolysis. Seal the wire joints with thick paint, epoxy or tar to keep moisture away from the joint area. Use identical metals in your electric fence will avoid problems with electrolysis altogether.

• If you test the wire to see if it will shock you, don't be standing in boots that insulate you from the ground. It will not work then! The ground system should be at least 33' (10 m) away from electric or telephone ground systems to avoid interference.
• Moist soil conducts electricity much better than dry soil. If possible, locate the ground system in a boggy area. In dry weather, wet the area around the ground system to keep the soil moist.
• Make sure there are a sufficient number of ground rods. See your charger’s user manual for recommendations. If in doubt, use at least three ground rods. Use more ground rods if your soil conditions are not ideal. Ground rods should be at least 6'6" (2 m) long. One long ground rod works better than several short ground rods.

Answer:	The dog needs to cross the circuit in order to shock.The ground stake is one side and a hot wire above the ground where he digs is the other side.While standing on the ground, if he touches the hot wire, he's zapped. It can be done.
Question:	I know this comes with 250’ is 17 gauge wire but if I need to can I add more to travel the intire circumfrance of my yard
Answer:	yes you can add more wire. I think that the range of that transmitter is about a quarter mile.
Question:	Is this waterproof? I cannot mount it inside my home
Answer:	They are sturdy but not waterproof; most manufacturers recommend installing under shelter but you can make your own cover out of a milk jug or plastic container to fit over the top, just cut out holes for the wires and cord or plug to come through. You will have to replace occasionally as they break down but for a small price (or nothing if you recycle a container) you will extend the life of your charger.
Question:	I want to add this to a 6-foot chain-link fence is that possible
Answer:	Yes it is and there are insulators to attach the wire specifically made for chain link fences.

Answer:	The kit will take care of an area of 100 - 300 square feet, but the charger is powerful enough to handle a much larger space. I was protecting a small area, so I didn't use all the wire and posts included in the kit.

Answer:	This fence can be used with pets over 10 lbs, however often with small pets a pulsating charger is a better option.
Question:	I would like to install this on top of my 5 ft. steel fence that is around my cement patio for my dog who now climbs over it. Will it work with cement
Answer:	For this type of setup you will need what is called a two wire system. From the ground rod a wire will need to go around the fence about 6 inches under the hot wire. Answer:	Hi there John, the large white unit is the transmitter. The wires in the ground connects to this and it controls the signal. The smaller unit is a lightening protector that reduces the risk of power surges.
Question:	How much wire will I need to get for about 2 acres of property
Answer:	Hi there, for 2 acres of property you will need a minimum of 1,200 feet of wire. It will probably be best to have a total of 3 spools of wire (500 ft. each) so that you don't run out as the layout may call for extra.
Question:	How many feet of wire is included
Answer:	This system includes 500 feet of 20 gauge wire. However, I did a good deal of research before purchasing this system and I found that this is was not going to be enough for my yard and more importantly, this 20 gauge is a very light weight wire and many people had to replace it after just two years. As a result, I did use this system, but I did not use the cheap wire that came with it. I, instead, went to FlexPetz.com and used their "Heavy Duty 16-Gauge Dog Fence Wire (1000 ft)". The SKU number was HD-16AWG-1000. It cost me $117.95 and the shipping was free. They also have a good selection of various lengths if you do not need 1000 feet. I finished installing my fence myself two weeks ago and it is working great. I have no complaints and I feel confident knowing that I will not need to replace the wire anytime soon.

Answer:	We placed this around the fencing around the pool to keep raccoons out...so if any animal tries to go in and touches the wire they would be shocked..we have not had any raccoons enter the pool since putting this in place..we tried sensors but they didn't work.

Answer:	I live in Florida so there is a lot rain. I set my unit up in my covered patio so it isn't directly in the elements. If you don't have a covered patio then you can put this in a water resistant box, NEMA 4 or IP65 box. Im sure Amazon has these enclosures. The fence energizer look like it is sealed very well but I wouldn't go against the manufacturer recommendations. Keep it dry.
Question:	Does the unit have an on off switch
Answer:	No, there is no on/off switch. Plug it in and it's "live."
Question:	how painful is it? worried about visitors accidentally touching it
Answer:	It's not extremely painful but I wouldn't play with it. My adult son thought he would be funny and grabbed it right after I installed it... Obviously we got a good laugh out of it. This last weekend as I was mowing the lawn, I had work gloves and thought I would lift it up to mow along the fence line... It zapped me through my glove. I then ran into it with my bare leg turning away from it. It does let you know it is there!

Answer:	Using polytape on the fence will lower the voltage you can expect from a charger. For shorter polytape fences, this charger will work well to contain horses. If fencing in a larger area, a more powerful charger may be needed. Zareba 5 Mile Solar Powered Electric Fence Charger

Use this electric fence energizer on remote areas of your property to power your fence lines. Featuring a durable case, this low impedance energizer delivers 0.10 output joules and is best for short-haired animals, including horses, cattle and pigs. Seamless Mounting

The ESP5M-Z has a slotted mounting bracket on the back of the energizer. Install the charger on t-posts, y-posts and round posts and then rotate it on the pole to follow the sun as needed. To mount on flat surfaces and walls, just install a hanging screw.

Easy-Grip Terminals

For easy installation, the ESP5M-Z features easy-grip screw-on terminal knobs that help you connect your ground-rods and your live fence wire. Connect the fence line to the red terminal and the ground line to the green knob.

Track Your Fence Status

Monitor your fence status by checking the simple 'Fence OK' light. If the light is active, then your fence is up and running. This allows you to do quick spot checks on your fence and indicates when solar power is flowing from its internal storage battery.

Answer:	Yes, this unit is strong enough to electrify a normal sized mailbox. I have never seen it done but this charger can do it if it is set up correctly.
Question:	I have two chihuahuas that I am trying to keep away from a section of my yard. Is this too much voltage
Answer:	I have this although I have not used it yet due to snow. It is similar to the Hartz model in voltage. It is not a steady current. I have 4 small dogs 7-10 pounds. All touched the line they yelped. I held the line and it surely tingles didn't hurt. One however did get stuck on it however still not sure and it left a wound not bad but a mark nonetheless. They did learn to stay away from it after three or so zaps. It is not strong like for large animals but I would supervise your dogs to be certain nothing bad happens until they learn to keep away.
Question:	Will it work for a Trump yard sign
Answer:	I used a much more powerful unit and it worked perfectly. Our sign is the only one still in our neighborhood.

Answer:	I can’t guarantee it will keep our coyotes however it has kept away the geese ducks otters Sentra Sentra . The wire is very strong and should be able to keep away most animals you also could double the wire up. PS it work great for me I love it

Question:	Will it contain horses
Answer:	It will contain horses, but was designed for sheep & goats. However, our item 208022 - Horse QuikFence was designed specifically for horses. All electric nets and fences must be properly energized to be effective.
Question:	If I already have electric fence, can I just connect this to that current without buying whole new energy source
Answer:	You may be able to, but it will depend if your energizer is large enough to handle the additional fencing and also be sure that it is an intermittent pulse energizer and not a one with continuous current.
Question:	Has anyone had their kid accidentally touch the fence when electrified? Is it just like a shock from a 9 volt battery
Answer:	I jumper mine off a wire from my cattle pastier with a 100 mi fencer. It hurts but the sheep are smart. If you fall behind on moving it so they need to start looking for taller grass, they will test it or sometimes push each other into it and knock it down. I have 2 and hook them together. For the most part it has worked great for me as long as I have hay for them when I am running short on time. I recommend the thick corner post and use twine to tie them to a T-post on the out side to keep it tight, tie in 2 places on each corner post top and middle or if it is hot out the poles will bow.
Question:	Is this negativity effected by rain
Answer:	Rain should not affect the fence.

Benefits

Very easy to move. Secure for adults, lambs and kids. Extra height is better for large and/or flighty animals. Visible for animals against all back grounds. End posts act as built in gates. Multiple nets hook to each other quickly via a clip on each end. Double spike posts are more stable in soft soils. Plastic strut verticals are more rigid than string verticals. Nets with vertical struts bunch less than string verticals when the net is being rolled up or unrolled.

Precautions

Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.

Electrify Your Fence

Electrifying the fence with an energizer is essential. For the fence to be effective at keeping out predators, it must be electrified to deter them from the flock.

Answer:	Did you use insulators on the fence? The bare wire cannot touch the wood.

Answer:	If installed properly with a good grounding system, it will assist in keeping dogs out of your chicken coop.
Question:	Can i use for a hog pen
Answer:	We generally recommend one energizer output joule per mile of fence. This 0.30-joule energizer will power about 1,584 feet of fence. So as long as your hog pen is 1,584 feet or less, this energizer will work fine for you.
Question:	is this energizer intended for net fencing or single wire? Is it an intermittent pulse or constant
