| Answer: | in this pen, it requires a standard international converter, but since the shape of the intake is slanted like a standard international cartridge, many of the chinese standard int'l converters won't work (since they're like cylinders with standard int'l bore, and not tapered). you're gonna wanna look for a standard international converter that has the smaller, slanted part at the front instead of just being a barrel. brands that do fit: schmidt (the K5), monteverde, montblanc, waterman, rotring, and some select moonman ones. brands that do NOT work (unless you're willing to file off some from the front to make it fit): jinhao, hero, penbbs, most chinese brands. basically any standard international converter that costs more than $5 will probably fit lol. i'd recommend the schmidt k5 because this pen has a schmidt nib/assembly, so it's like for sure compatible. if anyone finds a cheap chinese brand that has a properly shaped converter, please contact me because so many pens have this problem, and i want to buy 20 of them. |

Over time, the color coating will wear off (in small batches and especially around the area where the cap closes at the body), and reveals a bronze-like color beneath. At other scratched areas at the top of the cap, the underlying color is a metallic gray. But it still looks nice and I continue to use as one of my many daily carries. |

| Answer: | I use cartridges by Namiki Pilot. I use size IC100. I assume that you are doing the same. I unscrew the end that has the retractor button. Then I remove the stainless steel cartridge cover (the big end is inserted toward the nib and there is a bump on the sleeve that guides the steel cartridge cover to place. The old cartridge comes out with easy finger friction. Place the new cartridge in big end in first and tapered end last. Push in the cartridge cover until it meets resistance as you push it over the new cartridge into the sleeve. When I push the cartridge all the way in, I cannot see the bumps on the cartridge cover..... the bump fits inside the sleeve. I'm not sure you can insert the cartridge backwards. The top of the cartridge just fits nicely inside the cartridge cover. Next, make sure the push button is out (I'm not even sure you could get the cartridge inserted if the button is pushed in) and carefully screw the top end to place. I suspect that you have been doing all of these steps correctly as they are fairly self evident. The only things that I can think of: you might have an incorrect cartridge or you are trying to insert the cartridge with the button pushed in. As I think about it, you would need some powerful force to crush the cartridge...... not good. On my pen, everything goes easily to place with gentle pressure. It is obvious when my pen is screwed back together as there is a definite stop when it is screwed in place properly. This is such a wonderful pen. I love using it. I even like to look at it. One more thing: I don't insert the cartridge ALL the way to place in the beginning. After I have pushed the cartridge cover into the sleeve and meet with obvious resistance, I place the sleeve and nib carefully back into the pen, and screw the top in which pushes the plastic cartridge to precise position when the top is screwed home. |

The line will be a little on the narrow side of whatever nib size you choose. The cartridge or cartridge converter does not hold a lot of ink. Keep that in mind, when choosing your nib size. if you are looking for a permanent ink, you could try Noodler's Black or any of the Bullet Proof / Eternal inks from Noodlers. Those inks are permanent to cellulose based products only. To reduce residue buildup, the fountain pen should be flushed regularly. Great fountain pen. I hope this has helped. |
