Answer: The pens work wonderfully. When you write, the ink dries in a few seconds. Be sure to use a quality ink. You will love the pens!!

Question: How do i make these pens not scratchy? using tomoe river paper and inks like diamine, herbin, pilot, mont blanc. it doesn't write easily, is scratchy
Answer: The tip of a fountain pen nib is usually made from a ball of very hard metal, to resist the wear of writing on paper. if you look closely (with a magnifier), you will see that this ball is split with an extremely fine saw cut forming the capillary that draws the ink to the tip. For smooth writing, both sides (tines) of the nib must be aligned perfectly. If one is lower than the other, it will present a scratchy edge, which will drag in one direction more than the other. This can be corrected by gently bending the tines back in alignment. Watch the Youtube "Adjusting Your Fountain Pen" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuq9tuKRbCY) video, for some instructions. It takes patience and practice to learn how to do this.Another problem that causes scratchiness is roughness of the nib ball, usually found on cheap nibs which were not fully polished by the manufacturer. You can polish it out yourself, but the hard metal tip makes polishing slow. For an abrasive, I use 4 mil Herculene drafting film. The matt surface is a very fine and gentle abrasive, which will eventually leave the nib tip glassy smooth, after much looping and swooping over the surface (with ink). In really bad cases, I slip the edge of the drafting film between the tines, and slide the nib back and forth several times, then turn the film over and do it again, to get the other tine. Of course, you can replace the nib with a better one, but the new nib probably costs much more than these pens, and you will have to search long to find the right size. There are YouTube videos about that, too.After tuning and polishing, I have several Jinhao 599 pens that write smoothly, and a few that I can't make as smooth as I would like.I really enjoy tinkering with pens, but not everyone does. If this sounds like too much trouble, maybe you should look at some better pens.The smoothest writing pens I have are the Waterman Philias Medium point, the Lamy Safari Medium point, and an old Cross (Townsend?) with a gold nib, Medium Point. These pens came from the factory well polished and adjusted. All of these pens are more expensive than the Jinhao 599.P.S. If you want a very nice writing, inexpensive fountain pen, try the Pilot Varsity disposable pen. I have used a number of these, and all worked right, right out of the box.

Question: Can you change the nib
Answer: I have several Jinhao's and have changed the nib. I put a Goulet nib on Jinhao 750. I have this pen and the nib is a smooth as the Goulet in my humble opinion so I have not changed it out.
Question: How do you get this pen to draw ink? it will not work not matter what i try
Answer: If you're using a cartridge, squeeze the cartridge once installed in the pen until you see ink starting to come out. Make sure the cartridge is in the proper way! The small end goes into the pen. Push until it clicks in. If you're using the converter, put it in the pen, dip it in the bottle of ink, and draw the ink up with the twist knob on top. Sometimes I've had to shake the pen to prime it. Hope this helps.
Question: How do you snap in the cartridge? I bought the Jinhao cartridges from Amazon...doesn't seem to work
Answer: I bought Monaggio standard ink cartridges for this pen. Amazon sells them in a pack of 20 per box. They fit perfect in the Jinhao Birds and Winterseeet Paunting pen. I’m on my 4th box already

Answer: No The flex nib you are probably looking for is a combo of this pen and the Zebra flex nib. I made one and it is a bit of work as the nib needs to be opened up a bit. Plenty of you tube tutorials on how to do it. This pen comes with a med nib. Writes well for what it is.
Question: Can you replace the nib? With a flex nib
Answer: You can replace the nib on an X750 with any #6 nib. The number 6 refers to the overall size of the nib (I know that at least there are #5's and #6's--6 is larger). Google "flex nib #6" to find some #6 flex nibs. Goulet Pens sells one called "Noodler's Ahab/Konrad #6 Steel Nib - Flex."

Question: where can I buy an ink cartridge for the Jintao fountain pen
Answer: I don't use ink cartridges. I have the converter for the inside of the pen. I get the bottle of ink (if black) at staples. I get my turquoise ink from Shaffer.com, a really great color. The only disappointment with this pen (which is great), I wish it also would come in extra fine and fine nibs.

Answer: You can just refill with your own ink out of a bottle, that’s my preferred method. It will take standardized international cartridges too! Love this pen it’s a great value I own 2
Question: I bought this pen but unable to figure how to get the cartridge in correctly
Answer: This one has the converter, right? If you have cartridges, carefully remove the converter: you may have to unscrew it a little. When you take it out, notice the shape of the part of the converter that connects to the point section, and place your cartridge so the end of the cartridge matches the shape of the end of the converter Then press firmly; you will be able to tell when they are connected by feeling it pop, and noticing that the ink has started to flow toward the pen point. Honestly I have had better luck with these pens by using the converter.and bottled ink. If the cartridges do not fit in there pretty snuggly, they will not stay attached, and it is a heck of a mess. If there is any question, the cartridges are standard. The long ones seem to fit better. If you have an extra shorter cartridge you can fit in in the barrel behind the one attached to the pen, to stabilize the position. No insult to JinHao intended but I bought these pens because they are cheap, and relatively disposable. Good luck.

Question: Between this and the Platinum Preppy, which should I buy? (when considering the strict use of cartridges only as well
Answer: I use both, but prefer the Preppy even though it's lighter weight and appears more like a "disposable" pen... I rinse and refill the cartridge with bottled ink using a syringe from Goulet Pens and have used my Preppy regularly for about 2 years without a problem. You can also order a converter as well as Platinum brand cartridges from them that I get in 2-3 days time. The Preppy has a finer nib, which is probably the main reason I often choose it for daily writing. The Jinhao clearly (pun intended) looks like a more expensive pen and doesn't have any advertising/writing on it, which is something that bothers some people about the Preppy. This 992 model has a physically smaller sized nib and seems a little finer nibbed as well when compared to most other Jinhao's which have the larger #6 nib and seem more Medium in flow. I have smaller hands and like the 992 better than the x 159, x750, and x450 for that reason. If you're looking for a larger pen in the $8-12 range, you might check out those Jinhao's as well - the Shimmering Sands model is really super looking !

Answer: Hi, the power supply is AC 100/120/220/230V 50/60Hz.

Answer: It worked very well with my Prismacolor (wax based) and Faber-Castell (oil based) colored pencils. I still run a graphite pencil through the sharpener from time to time to clear out the was/oil flakes in the rotaries.
