With standard mechanical pencils, as you write the pencil lead is worn down until it is a slanted surface. Each time you write you will get a different experience depending on how the pencil is rotated. This can cause multiple annoyances: 1. As you start to write you might have a sharp point, but as you continue to write the point is worn down and thus your line widths are not uniform. This can also lead to smudgy and thick lines. 2. If you pick the pencil up and happen to start writing with the tip of the angled point, it is likely to scratch or catch on the paper. 3. The different angles at which the pencil lead comes in to contact with the paper is a common cause of lead breakage. The Kuru Toga, on the other hand, has a core rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. The lead is twisted through a spring-loaded clutch, it works by twisting incrementally every time you lift the pencil up (i.e. during printing words, etc.). This allows a uniform wearing of the pencil lead so that it always remains as a pointed tip. Not only does it solve the above problems, but it also gives you an amazingly thin line. You are effectively using only 50% of the lead area that you were previously using with your old mechanical pencil. Thus, a 0.3/0.5 mm Kuru Toga will write incredibly thin lines and have less breakage than a standard 0.3/0.5 mm mechanical pencil.

Answer:	Yes. There is a spare included in the box. The ring will occasionally come off, if the pencil is stored loosely in a bag or pencil case, so I have found a narrow felt case that I can use to make sure I don’t lose the spare.

Answer:	Unscrew the point cone from the body. You’ll be able to slide the lead forward and back with the magnet ring. Tighten the comeback back down to lock the lead in position. This is done because writing without it locked down would cause the lead to push up inside the pencil. Take the cone all the way off to take the lead holder out and refill with a new lead.

Answer:	It appears to me it can be removed, might take a little prying as it fits snug in a groove, however I wouldn't be able to say 100% unless I removed it, however I want it on. I think 98% I would say since it will swivel around and it has about a 2mm gap it can be removed. I hope that helps

Answer:	I didn't have great luck refilling the pencil. After I refilled the pencil, it never worked again. The lead jammed and broke often. The experience was really very disappointing. I spend all of my day writing and designing with various pens and pencils, so this was a big disappointment.
