User questions & answers

Question: Is there an adapter to allow me to bulk scan slides or do they have to be loaded one at a time
Answer: Not for this scanner. Only the Nikon Coolscan 4000 or the Coolscan 5000 are able to use the bulk slide adapter (SF-210). The Coolscan 4000 uses firewire to connect to the computer and the Coolscan 5000 uses USB connection.
Question: Film holder for Coolscan
Answer: May I ask you to clarify? There is a slide scanner and film strip holder.
Question: Can this scan a full roll without it needing to be cut into 6 or 5 frames
Answer: I used it mostly to scan slides. Did film there is a film strip holder that comes with the scanner. I don't think there is an option to scan a full roll.
Question: these reviews are pretty old. Does anyone know if the software will work on a 64 bit version of windows
Answer: Nikon actually did Coolscan IV owners a favor when they orphaned it by not releasing a 64-bit scanning program. Vuescan is much faster and his many more features than did Nikon Scan. Frankly, Nikon Scan was a really crappy piece of software.

User questions & answers

Question: Can it scan APS film
Answer: http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/scanner/scoolscan_5000_ed/spec.htmHi, I found this link on the Nikon site - it can scan them if they are mounted. There is an optional adapter for APS film, but since the product is no longer supported I don't know if you can find one.
Question: does it scan 120 negative
Answer: No. It is primarily designed to hold 35mm film (strips of up to 6 negatives) or mounted slides. I have used an EPSON PERFECTION flat bed scanner (with holders for 120 film) to scan large negatives.
Question: can you ship to Hong Kong and whta's the shipping fee
Answer: Yes, we do ship internationally. Please add the item to the shopping cart and start the check out process to calculate the exact shipping costs.
Question: Do you have information on how this scanner works for 35mm film, both TriX and P
Answer: It can convert all 35 mm negatives to positive. It is similar printing from negative film to photographic paper. It scans slides as is. Scanner is for 35 mm films. I don’t believe it can scan larger films

User questions & answers

Question: works with windows
Answer: I read online of folks running them on Win 10, but I've not been able to do so. I can't tell if the issue is with the scanner or the Windows interface.
Question: how does the APS work
Answer: First, you need to have the (increasingly rare) APS atachment. You insert it into the scanner, insert the film in front, fired up the software, and away you go.
Question: Will it work on older operating systems
Answer: It's very likely that it will, but of course it depends on the operating system and software you're using. I've used this with older Mac operating systems, for example. There should be compatibility information on the web which might answer your specific needs and specific question, see here for example: http://www.silverfast.com/product/Nikon/LS-4000ED-Super-Coolscan-4000ED-200/en.html
Question: You state that you can "Download the correct version for your operating system" in reference to the Nikon scanning program. Windows 7 & 8?l
Answer: There are several options for software. I run Nikon Scan version 4.0.3, which is, I think, the last update, under Windows 7, and it works perfectly well. (I can't say as to Windows 8, which I will not be using.) VueScan will also work nicely with the scanner, and I believe that there is a version of Silverfast that works with it. (I use Silverfast with another scanner.) Here is a thread on photo.net that may help--I have both VueScan and Nikon Scan on my computer. http://photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00ZhGb

Nikon LS-30 Coolscan III Film Scanner for PC (PC/PowerMac)

Nikon

Based on 5 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Nikon has assembled an exceptional personal film scanner designed and priced for solo professional photographers, amateurs, and creative neophytes. The Nikon LS-30 (also known as the Coolscan III) gives you many of the features of Nikon's more expensive and advanced apparatus, the LS-2000, yet is priced for the individual. Out of the box, the LS-30 is ready and able to scan 35mm film in strip or slide format. When supplemented with an additional adapter (not included with the LS-30 basics), the Nikon LS-30 can also scan Advanced Photo System film. Fast scans of 20 seconds (average) at 2,700 dpi optical resolution with a dynamic range of 3.0 provide consistently reliable color. With digital image correction automatically removing surface debris from the scanned surface, you'll waste less time working on defective images.

Nikon has developed their exclusive Color Management System to ensure that colors match on your monitors, printers, and Web output. This system assists users in working with 1 of 10 RGB color spaces as well as CMYK for prepress work. You can even switch between film types without resetting the scanner or selecting alternate software. Additionally, LED technology guarantees consistent, true color.

The LS-30 uses no bulb, eliminating the frustration of stopping in the middle of a project to replace the light. Digital ICE technology automatically cleans superficial defects like dust, scratches, and fingerprints from scans. The Nikon LS-30 may be just the step-up you're looking for toward perfecting the beautiful, lasting images of your photographs.

  • Scans 35mm film in strip or slide format and Advanced Photo System (APS) film
  • Average scan times of 20 seconds at 2,700 dpi optical resolution
  • Dynamic range of 3.0
  • LED technology provides consistent, reliable color with no bulb to replace

User questions & answers

Question: do you have to have a scsi adapter to use this? Is there any other interface
Answer: Hi, yes. I have a Ratoc SCSI > Firewire adapter. i don't know if they're still made but you can find one on eBay. It works fast and easily with my iMac, Mac OSX Sierra
Question: Is this for mac only or can i use it with a pc
Answer: You can use it with both. I recommend using VueScan, so check theur page to see the system requirements. My best!
Question: I have 10k slides to scan. How long would that take with this device can I load up a lot of slides and let it work while I go off and do other thing
Answer: It'll depend on the resolution you do it, how dirty the slide is (if you use the software to correct it on auto, which is fine) and, mostly, on the interface and computer you use to connect it. On the first Mac I used this scanner it was via SCSI. On the second one, a 2011 iMac, I bought a SCSI > Firewire adapter and things where much faster! I haven't used this scanner for some time, but I can say a regular slide will take less than a minute and a dirty one some 2 minutes. But at the time my iMac didn't have an SSD, which made things faster too. And it already had 16GB of RAM, processor is an i% at 2,5 Ghz. Another point: I used Vuescan because the original Nikon software was not compatible with OSX. I like it, it's faster than Nikon's software was. Maybe today's version is even faster. Using the slide adapter as on the image, the process is very straightforward. You introduce the slide, give a "scan" on the software and that's it. The process, as I said, is fast on "clean" slides. Less than a minute, for sure. If my memory is not playing on me, I'd say around 30/40 seconds of processing time. Quality is VERY good, it outputs a 30 x 20 cm @ 300DPI print. After scanning I always did some retouching and fine tuning on Photoshop, but that's my way of doing it.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatible with mac yosemite os pr sierra
Answer: Yes its compatible with mac
Question: what is the oldest/newest version of OSX (apple) that is compatible with this scanner
Answer: I currently run my Coolscan with an iMac that is at version 10.6.8.I used to use the Coolscan before OS X came along.
Question: What comes in the box with the scanner? What film carriers does it come with? I need 35mm, 6x7cm at least. Does it scan both negatives and slides
Answer: In the box - 35mm filmstrip holder; 35mm slide mount holder; medium format (120) film strip holder; two masking sheets; power cable; firewire/IEEE1394 interface cable; nikon scan 3.1 (now unsupported- Vuescan is a good software option.) Quickstart and user manual.
Question: Is this machine capable of transferring 16mm family film to Apple computer. If not is there something out there
Answer: to do that on coolscan 8000 or 9000. With a glass film holder you could scan four three inch strips at one time. But it would take a long time to edit the scan into separate frames and then to assemble into a series and convert the whole thing into a digital video format.Yes it is possible but would take way too much time and would require cutting the film into 3" strips. There are probably dedicated machines for doing what you want but because 16mm was more of a professional format they may be hard to find.

User questions & answers

Question: will it scan 8' x 10' film
Answer: If this helps, there's a page on the Nikon website that lists what film formats it can scan and which holders/adapters you need to use for each type at https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product-archive/film-scanners/super-coolscan-9000-ed.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-TechSpecs - as far as I can see though, no 8 x 10 film.
Question: Will this scan a long roll of 35mm with approx 480 frames? I can not cut the film
Answer: Not possible as the film does not pass through. You can use the Coolscan 5000 with SA-21 strip holder and SA-30 35mm roll holder. Both are available on eBay it seems. The scanner itself is excellent. Good luck!
Question: voltage
Answer: The power supply must be 50/60 Hz and 100-240 V AC. The power cable must comply with the safety standards of the country of use, have SVT insulation or better, and be more than AWG18 in thickness.
Question: How would I connect this with a mac that does not have a firewire connector
Answer: Hello! Because Nikon LS9000 only works with IEEE firewire 400 interface, you must either mount an IEEE card in your mac or use an external USB-IEEE adapter (hopefully it exists!)

User questions & answers

Question: What is the maximum area that this can scan? I'm looking to scan 35X95mm images. Also, can this scan rolls of film automatically
Answer: I have the CoolScan V ED scanner, which is a 35 mm film scanner. That is the size of the image to be scanned. It does not automatically scan film rolls. There is an adapter that allows the scanning of strip film and another adapter that allows scanning of slides. Either way, it is designed for 35 mm scanning.
Question: Will this work with a new Macbook Air OSX
Answer: I use it with an iMac running Maverick with VueScan software which is great software. I do not see why it would not work with your MacBook Air. VueScan is great scanning software - I use it constantly and it is very inexpensive. Talk with the folks at VueScan if you want to be sure, but I think it should work just fine.
Question: Could you use this to scan super 8 film
Answer: No, this is not for motion just 35mm stills. I would recommend an online service to convert super 8.
Question: Any recommendations for what computer software to use for a PC with Windows 7 OS? I purchased this great scanner when my PC had XP OS
Answer: The origional nikon software will not work with 64 bit, however viewscan at hamrick.com not only works with 64 bit and the Nikon scanner, but the nokon software works after you have installed viewscan software. They claim that there software works with any scanner and any operating system. I believe them because I just got a new computer with windows 8 and everything is working just fine.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with a Nikon D
Answer: It will work with any camera body as long as you use a proper lens. The 40mm and 60mm micro Nikons are both ideal.
Question: Can this be adapted to fit, and work with a Canon 80D
Answer: The body doesn't care, the adapter mounts to the lens. I don't know the Canon 80D, but you need to have 52mm threads on the lens to screw in the slide copier adapter. I use a step down ring going from my 62mm macro lens ring size to the slide copier 52mm size threads. You must be able to focus to a couple of inches. I am shooting with a Sony ar7iii and a weird Chinese Laowa 60mm macro lens. The lens is sharp!
Question: This will work out of the box, alone, for the 55 micro nikkor (52mm front) and FF D
Answer: I use this slide duplicator on a Panasonic G5 with an adaptor for the 55mm nikor. It works great. I have no experience with a FF D700
Question: Can this work on a canon eos rebel xs??? Other websites said it can work with other brands and not just Nikon
Answer: It has standard threads and you need to learn the exact threads that this has and the exact threads that ANY OTHER camera has and if they are not the same. Someone usually makes a tiny adapter ring and you screw it all together and are good to go. I used it on my Canon camera. Make sure that the camera will focus at the distance that the final combination will create. I think I had to use an extender tube and could not quite fill the image with the slide, but it was OK for my needs. A really good scanner is better, but they cost more. Also, some companies will scan your slides for a reasonable price, but be careful of their reputation and do you have to pay for their goofs. Enjoy.

Question: How long it takes (mm:ss) for full resolution scan - with 2x multi-exposure and iSRD (dust removal) on. Thanks
Answer: It all up to your computer. A fast computer wold take about 2 minutes. Per Plustek.Good Question.Anthony J Argy SrFull Color Copier Inc.
Question: How "One Touch" is one touch? I want to scan thousands of slides into tiffs and later spend time with only a few to "fix" with software editor
Answer: The scanner does not have an automatic advance for slides or film, rather you put the content into the carriage, then insert it to the scanner and each advance is manual. Once you get your settings for scanning set, save them and reload the settings each session. You can simply advance the carriage to each image then click the 'scan' button. It's pretty quick. Your sessions can be for whatever film or negative you have. For thousands of slides, you're going to want to be patient. Scanning takes 30 seconds or so per frame, depending on the dpi you choose, but this is nowhere close to a 'thousand slides in an evening' proposition...

Plustek OpticFilm 35mm film and slide scanner – High resolution, high quality digital images from your film and slides

The OpticFilm 8200i SE is a high-performance 35mm film and slide scanner that outputs brilliant digital images from analog film. It’s ideal for digitizing slides, color film and black and white film.

It’s the perfect scanner for professional and amature film photographers, and people that simply want to convert their old film and slides to digital format.

The OpticFilm 8200i SE uses a CCD sensor with 7200dpi high-resolution, specifically designed for film scanning, with 48-bit color bit depth that captures all the details from the original film. The scanner’s infrared channel removes dust and scratches eliminated the need for extensive post-processing correction.

State of the art imaging system

The Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE is designed with state-of-the-art illumination and optical systems.

It uses a high-sensitivity color CCD sensor and LED illumination to ensure optimal image quality.

The built-in infrared channel detects dust and scratches on the film surface and automatically removes them.

7200 DPI High Resolution

This dedicated 35mm film scanner features true 7200 dpi optical resolution that ensures sharp and vivid images. Output files up to 68.9 megapixels are similar to those created by a full frame digital-SLR camera.

You can create high-quality enlargement prints up to 36” x 24”.

High Dynamic Range

Dynamic range is the range of recordable light from darkest to lightest on the exposed film that a scanner can read.

With a dynamic range of up to 3.6 D, you will rediscover how beautiful and natural the highlights and shadows are in analog photography.

iSRD - Infrared Dust and Scratch Removal

Slides and negatives always have small dust particles and tiny scratches on them, even when handled very carefully.

The OpticFilm 8200i scanner has an infrared channel that finds all the the dust and scratches on the film surface. Infrared light has a very wide wave-length, which allows it to pass through film emulsion of negatives and slides without resistance, as opposed to scratches and dust particles that reflect it. SilverFast iSRD utilizes this behavior as follows.

The image is scanned two times - the first is the regular scan and the second is the additional infrared scan that captures defects like dust and scratches only. Then the calculative dust and scratch removal takes effect, only where the infrared channel has detected any defects without losing any important details.

In conclusion, OpticFilm 8200i Series can automatically remove the dust and scratches from the scanned image.

Dust and scratches are removed during the scanning process eliminating the need for post-process removal of dust and scratches.

Professional-grade software for scanning and optimizing scanned images

User questions & answers

Question: Would the es-1 be compatible with af micro nikkor 105mm f/2.8 lens
Answer: If your lens has a 52mm filter thread, then the ES-1 will install. Not sure if you full frame because I have never used the 105mm.
Question: Will this work with canon 80d just using an extension tube to get the full slide image? or do i need a macro lens as well
Answer: It is not that easy to adopt this Nikon attachent to a Canon lens since it is designed for the Nikon bayonet mount. How ever, any lens between 50 to 100mm lens will be ideal for using this attacment provided Nikon to Canon conversion rings or adapters are needed and have to spend some amount to experiment. Please see my review attached for more detailed information. Wish you all the best. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3QXJI33FVSNTG?ref=pf_vv_at_pdctrvw_srp
Question: I have a dx format nikon (d7100) and the micro 40 mm lens (af-s micro nikkor 40 mm 1:2.8g). is this (or any other nikon product) compatible
Answer: You have the two most expensive components of the three-parts of an absolutely amazing slide copying system. It retains the cameras auto focus and auto exposure functions so making great copies comes down to your skill at placing slides in the holder so that each one lines camera's sensor as precisely as possible. I've found that mounting the camera on a tripod and tripping the shutter with a cable release enables me to copy a bunch of slides in the shortest time.
Question: Es posible usarlo con una Nikon
Answer: Totalmente!

User questions & answers

Question: What is the tv jack for? the manual said it is a phone jack, but none of tv has a phone plug
Answer: While it's true that camera "film" can't be exposed to light, DEVELOPED film becomes a "negative", which CAN be exposed to light. So far, I've converted about 200 35 mm slides to digital photos without any problems. I haven't tried using negatives yet, but I'm sure the result will be the same. It's a fantastic little machine.
Question: Can this scan 120 film
Answer: With a Mac, you have to save images to an SD card or the device's built-in memory (only 128 MB). Then you choose USB Upload and you can transfer the images to your computer.
Question: Are the Reels for 8mm film scanning included or are they an extra cost? None are shown in the advertisement
Answer: I'm not sure about that as I have only produced a digital image from a negative.
Question: Does this connect to the computer to save the photos onto hard drive or do you need the SD card
Answer: Not being an expert on the computer, I am not sure what "ntsc" means, but I do NOT use an sd card with my Kodak Scanner. I have the scanner plugged directly into my laptop, and the digital images go straight to the E drive, from where I easily put them into folders under My Pictures. So far I have done about 1,100 slides, and I am so very happy with the quality of the digital images. I also have had fun editing for brightness and color. Many of my digital images are better than the original slides! I am extremely happy with this product.
