It can scan or copy an area up to 11.7 x 8.5 inches (letter size). Copying performance was Very Good, suitable for most purposes. Includes OCR (optical character recognition) software, useful for making scanned documents editable in a word processor program. CONTROLS and DISPLAY. The printer has a large, 4.3-inch display screen with a touchscreen that can preview each photo in a 3.1-inch window. CONNECTIVITY and NETWORKING. The Canon PIXMA TS8222 has a memory-card reader for directly printing documents and images stored on an SD card. Answer:	Yes you can. I just scanned a 5 page document using the document feeder. Worked great!

Answer:	Yes it hinges up. The rear hinges seem to be able to lift up higher than just a page, like on a book, but it definitely lifts up. I normally lift up the top to scan one or two pages vs. using the document feed.

Answer:	My photo printing was excellent quality. Adjusting the paper feed system is not an easy adjustment, but much easier on the fourth or fifth time you use it. One small thing is there is a 1/16" white strip on top and bottom. Tom

Answer:	The 880 has touch screen fax buttons instead of physical buttons, uses different print cartridge model numbers (newer possibly) and has NFC support for phones that support. I have not used a 870 so I'm not sure if the 880s touchscreen is more responsive but usually they update the processor on refreshes. Answer:	My experience is only business. It works well for letters, Cad Drawings up to 11X17.. I have used it with heavy paper, but not card stock. The color graphics is OK, but may not be so great for photos.
Question:	I have comcast phone service will the fax work by plugging it into a modem
Answer:	Page 309 of the instructions covers the procedure for VoIP usage. If you plug in to the modem and get a dial tone, all is good. If not, call your provider for further instructions. I don't use landline, so I don't fax.
Question:	does this printer have it's own email address...in other words, can i email a document directly to this printer, for printing
Answer:	no but it has it's own IP address

Answer:	It works with my iMac, iPad and iPhone. I use the older OS X 10.10.5 and not the recommended OS 10.11.6 or higher and my iMac provide me the right diver right away when I connected the printer to my wireless network and everything works fine. But I cant tell you if the software - which you can download at https://www.brother-usa.com/products/MFCJ5845DW#specifications works on older OS X older than the recommended OS 10.11.6.

Answer:	Install the color as well and just never use it. Before print it’ll give you an option to choose color or black and you can also just use black.

Answer:	Yes, The Brother MFC-J491DW All-in-One inkjet printer Scans, Prints, Copies and double sided print/copy. The Unit should Fax however I do not the Fax capability installed. awesome little printer.
Question:	If you run out of a color cartridge, will it print in black
Answer:	No! I cannot get mine to print in black and white when any color cartridge is empty. It does NOT automatically print in black only and even when I change the settings, it refuses to print. Once I replaced the color cartridges, it happily printed in black and white again. I've never had a printer do this.

Answer:	Partial filled only. Problem I have now is trying to find inks that will work in the WF-2830

Answer:	Printers do not come with phone lines. You have to sign up for them with your local phone company, or with Spectrum if they are in your area. Since a phone line often costs more than $10 per month I suggest you try myfax.com, a service which will allow you to send and receive unlimited faxes through your email. It cost $10 per month and is very reliable. A less reliable firm is eFax but I discontinued them years ago and went to myfax.
