Answer:	I bought this based on the answers to this question. Mine does NOT work for a star pointer. There is an infinitely thin beam that I can occasionally see if I angle my view perfectly. Even on humid nights. However, no one else can see it, making it useless as a star pointer. It is well made, and does provide a solid dot up to a few hundred yards.

I painted one in highlander kryptek for a specific application and left the other black. If your using this as a tactical tool I suggest painting the surface around the laser port or using a piece of electric or camo duct tape because it's very reflective as is but that is a simple 10 second chore.
