| Answer: | There is no easy answer to that question. The Marine Band is the classic blues harmonica. The Crossover is a wonderful harmonica with a great sound. Personally, I think that it is a better built harmonica. However, it is a tad small in size for my taste. It isn't as comfortable as other harmonicas, at least until you get used to it. The Special 20 is also a very nice harmonica - a lot more comfortable on the lips than the Marine Band. It also sounds great. So, it is a matter of personal taste. These are all great harps. That said, my favorite C harmonica is a Seidel 1847 Noble. Unfortunately, those are kind of pricey. The best C harp in the bang for the buck category is, in my humble opinion, a Seidel Blues Session - great sound, perfect feel in the hand, well made. As I said, it is strictly a matter of personal preference. The 3 Hohners you mentioned are all great. |

| Answer: | The primary difference appears to be cosmetic, in that the cover plate has changed (for the worse, in my opinion). Rather than the fancier script it reads "Special 20" with the word "Progressive" in the middle. The screw heads that hold the reed plate in are smaller than before, and the diameter of the screws is about half of what it was. There are a couple of other little changes too, but not worth mentioning.None of these things are a big deal in terms of playability - pretty much non-issues, really. I'd still go for the earlier model (stores have tons of them around) just on looks, the older model just has a cooler appearance. Also, you could watch for sales on these (just before Christmas Amazon had a set of 5 for $106).Still, it's a good harp. |

| Answer: | All the crossovers I’ve ordered have come with the case as shown. It’s a pretty good case-kind of in between a Seydel slip cover and the hard shell case I got with my old Hohner’s. It’s basically gig bag tech. As a side note I find the Seydel slip covers perfectly adequate even for fairly rigorous use, I normally carry a few harmonicas in my pockets and also throw some in a gym bag with my busking rig and a couple fake books without them taking any harm of it. Anyway given the bulk of the case the Crossovers come with, I don’t think the additional protection is worth the extra space it takes up-if you need more protection than a slip case, you might as well go for a hard shell case. |

| Answer: | They are constructed differently to, and it affects both response time and their sound. The Golden melody is really built for melody playing. You're not going to do a ton of solos with that harp because it's not going to respond as fast. There's also the comb material, marine band is wood and golden melody is plastic. The plastic comb will last longer and is best for long play sessions. The reeds also have different gap widths and such, affecting response time. The Marine Band will thus allow for more bending and bluesy notes than the golden melody will. It's all about play style and musical sound. |

| Answer: | I would suggest that beginners start on Hohner's "Special 20" in the key of C. The Rocket is an excellent harp, but it's basically a souped-up (and quite a bit more costly) version of the Special 20. Rockets can be a little difficult for beginners; Hohner tends to set the harp's reed gaps quite high and they frequently need a bit of tweaking. Special 20s are great if you're just starting out, but it's not anywhere close to a toy. Lots of pros play 20s. |
