13 best affordable harmonica

Affordable harmonicas refer to harmonicas that are reasonably priced and provide good value for their cost. They are designed to offer quality sound and playability without the premium price tag associated with high-end models. Here are some key points about affordable harmonicas:

  1. Price Range:

    • Affordable harmonicas typically fall into the lower to mid-range price category, making them accessible to beginners and casual players.
  2. Types of Harmonicas:

    • There are various types of harmonicas, including diatonic, chromatic, tremolo, and octave harmonicas.Affordable options are available for each type.
  3. Material and Construction:

    • Affordable harmonicas are often made from durable materials like plastic or metal combs (the main body of the harmonica) and brass reeds (the vibrating components that produce sound).
  4. Tuning and Key:

    • They come in different keys, allowing players to choose the one that best suits their musical preferences and the type of music they want to play.
  5. Playability:

    • While affordable, these harmonicas are designed to be playable and can produce clear and consistent notes when properly maintained and played correctly.
  6. Sound Quality:

    • Affordable harmonicas can produce good quality sound, suitable for various musical styles including folk, blues, rock, and more.
  7. Reed Responsiveness:

    • The reeds in affordable harmonicas are typically responsive, meaning they vibrate readily when air is blown across them, resulting in clear and defined notes.
  8. Cleaning and Maintenance:

    • Like all harmonicas, regular cleaning and maintenance are important for preserving the instrument's sound quality and longevity.
  9. Brands and Models:

    • There are several reputable brands that offer affordable harmonicas, providing a range of options for players of different skill levels.
  10. Customer Reviews and Feedback:

    • Reading customer reviews and feedback can provide insights into the real-world performance and user satisfaction of a particular affordable harmonica model.
  11. Accessories:

    • Some affordable harmonicas may come with basic accessories like carrying cases or cleaning tools, though this can vary depending on the specific model.
  12. Learning Resource Availability:

    • There are often instructional materials, tutorials, and online resources available for beginners looking to learn how to play the harmonica.

It's important to note that while affordable harmonicas are suitable for beginners and casual players, professional musicians or those seeking a specific, high-end sound may opt for more expensive, specialized harmonicas. Additionally, individual preferences for sound and playability can vary, so trying out different models may be helpful in finding the best fit for a player's needs.

Music of the Spheres

Cd Baby

Based on 15 reviews Check latest price

Product description

These twelve pieces were inspired by the ancient Pythagorean conception of the Universe. This musical journey begins at Earth, and travels through the planets to the Great Beyond; passionate and mystical, reveling in the wonders of the Cosmos. "Music of the Spheres" incorporates a wealth of musical symbolism based on almost a year of William's research into ancient through modern astronomy and astrology. The fundamental concept of the album is to portray the soul's final journey from life on Earth, ascending through the planetary spheres to the Afterlife.

The original concept of the "Music of the Spheres" is credited to Pythagoras (c.569-475 BC), a musical-mathematical-mystic, but its first surviving written account appears in Plato (c.427-347 BC). At the end of his Republic, Plato gives a tour of the afterlife and a view of the planetary spheres. But for Plato they aren't true spheres, they are giant "hemispheres", nested inside of each other with just the rims exposed, all rotating on a spindle of light. A Siren is assigned to each rim, singing a single note. In short, in Plato's view, the Cosmos is an enormous glass armonica in the sky! If Plato's Sirens had merely touched the hemispheres' rims with moistened fingers instead of singing, we'd be crediting Plato with the invention of the glass armonica instead of Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790).

Composed for glass armonica and accompanied by harp, wine glass chorus, and gentle percussion.

About the Artist

William Wilde Zeitler has been a professional pianist and composer for over twenty years, with a degree in music from the California Institute of the Arts. His media credits include NPR, PBS, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, and many radio & television appearances across the country. He has worked with a wide variety of orchestras and ensembles, and appears on the sound track to the motion picture The Wooly Boys, starring Peter Fonda and Kris Kristofferson.

Having been trained as a classical musician, he was surprised to learn that both Mozart & Beethoven had composed for an instrument he’d never heard of until then: the glass armonica. Intrigued by its unusual history (it was invented by Benjamin Franklin), he commissioned one to be custom built in 1996. He fell in love with its sound, and since then has been performing and composing exclusively for the glass armonica. To date he has produced five CDs of original music written for it.

For those interested in the rich history of this instrument, more information can be found on William’s web site.

User questions & answers

Question: Are these harps the standard diatonic or something else
Answer: Compared to a metal harmonica the plastic set is no match. I bought the peidmont blues set to get an ear for each key but after a month or so I ended up buying a set of Hohner Special 20's. The sound of the special 20's is far superior to the peidmont set. The plastic body leaks more air, and the reeds are of lesser quality and are very difficult to use for bending and actual playing. I would tell you to spend more and buy a set of special 20's, but if you want a decent case only then the piedmont set should suffice. Bottom line is you're better off spending more on better quality harmonicas. Or even just spending 10 bucks more on one special 20 and not even buying this piedmont set.Happy Harpin'! - Mark
Question: should piedmont blues blow hard
Answer: This harmonica set contains harps in the following keys: A, B-Flat, C, D, E, F and G.
Question: how is this plastic set compared to metal harmonica
Answer: Hello, this silicone grip doesn't cover the triggers, it does not affect the operation of the controller
Question: what keys are the harmonicas
Answer: i am not sure how much it weighs but it does not weigh too much and it does not make the controller heavy

User questions & answers

Question: Windsavers are dying. Do you sell spare windsavers
Answer: it is made in China and to be honest I was not 100% satisfied with the response of the reeds . I allready had bought very good instruments from easttop so I was a little bit disappointed I am a professional player !
Question: Will the brass comb tarnish or oxidize? Or will the electroplating prevent this
Answer: If its the notes or certain notes that are stuck, then its likely a wind saver issue. If its the slide that is getting stuck, that's another issue. Both can be solved by letting the harmonica warm up before playing. Put in pocket or under your arm to warm it up. When played cold, your breath will create moisture which can cause the windsavers to sometimes stick. Be sure not to drink sticky stuff before playing. After playing, tap out the mouthpiece and set the harmonica mouthpiece down to dry out. Don't put it in the case right after playing. Let it dry out first. Hope this helps.
Question: where is it made
Answer: I have not found a label that says "Made in Germany," either on the harmonica or in the information sheet that came with it. However, because Hohner is a German company, I assume the harmonica is either manufactured in Germany or if it is made somewhere else, it is to rigorous German specifications. It's a fine instrument.
Question: I bought 12 holes easttop it sounds good when you play first time. It is stuck when you continue to play. Is it wind saver problem
Answer: Yes.This Hohner Marine Band 364-Soloist Harmonica comes with a carrying vinyl snap case with 2 snap buttons (mine is dark red/maroon color).

User questions & answers

Question: Will these fit a Hohner CX
Answer: Asian, I have heard rumors about Hohner letting some of its harps be made in China. However, the one I bought from Amazon, the 255 Chrometta 12 in the key of C, says on the side plates and on the plastic case "Hohner Chrometta 12" and there is a "C" stamped on the side plate. Nothing about China. One thing you could do before buying is to contact the seller via Amazon on the internet, and ask. That would be your best bet. If they lie and send you one made in China, you can always give a bad report on the company that sold it to you via Amazon, and you can return it. I also think you can ask Amazon to intercede for you to help you get a genuine Hohner. Now about the 255 Hohner, since you are in the market and since I own one - understand that the holes are square, not round, and the body including the holes is made of black plastic, not chrome-plated metal. If you look carefully at the picture you can see the black plastic body, although the side plates are chrome plated. I personally disagree about the German Hohner being superior to the Chinese Swan brand or the Japanese Suzuki brand; I can tell no difference. I spent most of my life playing a Hohner 64-Chromonica with 16 round chrome plated holes, and now I own a Swan made just the same way. I wore my old Hohner out with its wooden body, but I don't think I will ever wear out my Swan because its body is black plastic and not made of wood. The Hohner 255 has a black plastic body, and does NOT have the chrome plated round holes; they are square holes in the body of black plastic, although the innards are of course made of quality metal. In my experience, round holes are easier for blowing several notes at once, making a chord. Square holes seem to me to make it easier to sound individual notes. Also, with only 12 holes instead of 16, your range of notes is limited, making it necessary to go up an octave at times instead of continuing down toward lower notes. However, again, it depends on what you want. If it's classical or popular tune music, perhaps you would want the larger one; if it's blues, perhaps you would want the square holes. It depends on the individual manner and method of playing. I own a Suzuki Chromatix SCX-48 with 12 round Chrome plated holes which I got from Amazon, and I prefer it for certain types of song involving chording; while I prefer the Hohner 255 for others. The square holes seem to be a little harder on the corners of your mouth. The Hohner 255 has a square shape where the holes are, and the playing area is not rounded as with other Hohner models, which can make your mouth sore if you are used to playing with your mouth wrapped around it instead of puckering when you play. Although I much prefer my Swan 1664 Chromatic, made in China, with its 16 round holes for public performance, when I am alone I am just as liable to pick up my Hohner 255 with 12 square plastic holes as I am my Suzuki Chromatix 12 round holes. Hope this helps!

Question: Where was this particular piece manufacturered
Answer: Yes. Model was only made in such key. It has been discontinued. These are the last pieces. Thanks, Beagle Music Online.
Question: What key is this in
Answer: SURE, THE CASE IS A COFFIN AND IT'S ABOUT SIX INCHES LONG AND FOUR INCHES FROM TOP TO ABOUT TWO INCHES TO BOTTOM. YOU MUST OF LOVED THAT MOUSE, TELL ME, WAS HIS NAME OZZIE. GOOD LUCK AND SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR FRIEND.
Question: Is the only key available C
Answer: Like all professional chromatic harmonicas yes it does!
Question: Would the case make a good casket to bury a pet mouse
Answer: What do you mean by cleaning kit? What we recommend is to always tap the harmonica holes facing down after you've played it and leave it like this for a couple minutes (helps get the saliva out) Always store the harmonica in its box (that helps a lot!) Then if you need to remove saliva solids (maybe every 2 months) you'd have to take it apart and remove those bits with a toothpick or small flathead screwdriver Do not use any water, soap ... Once you're done removing all those small saliva bits you can use a Qtip with a touch of mouthwash mixed with water and gently wipe the areas where it's needed (mouthpiece and where the covers meet the comb You don't need any special tools for this Harmo makes a tool kit for repair and adjusting the harmonica.
