How to Tune a Ukulele?

The first step in learning ukulele is to tune,beginner needs a tuner.

We press the tuner into Ukulele mode, clip it on the head of the head, and then twist the peg while plucking the strings, 4 strings standard corresponding to 4G, 3 strings

Now that you have acquainted yourself with the instrument, the first thing we want to do is tune it up!

Step 1: Tune your ukulele

To aid in the tuning process, we recommend using a Golden Gate PT-1 Posi-Tune Compact Tuner or similar.

Begin by bringing each string as close to pitch as possible. The notes we will be tuning each string to, starting from Top to Bottom are:

G – C – E – A

Step 2: Stretch each string

In order to your new ukulele in tune, it will be necessary to stretch each string until it stabilizes. This is due to the material that typical ukulele strings are manufactured from and is perfectly normal.

Once each string is tuned up close to pitch – firmly, but gently – pull along the entire length on each string (while carefully supporting the instrument.) Pay particular attention to where each string wraps around the tuning peg posts, as well as where they are knotted at the bridge. It is normal for new ukulele strings to stretch considerably, so be patient. Also, be careful not to pull too hard on each string while stretching to avoid damaging the strings or your instrument.

Step 3: Repeat previous steps and tune it again

You’re almost there. Just repeat the process of tuning and stretching until each string stabilizes to the correct note. You’ve probably noticed that after having repeated the process several times, your ukulele will hold its tune better and better.

Depending on how often you play your ukulele, it could take a few days – even up to a few weeks for your strings to settle in – but once that happens you will be ready to play anytime.

Answer:	Yes It is right size for two to five years old.

Question:	The picture shows the strings in the wrong place. Instead of 1,2,3,4, it 3,1,2,4. We ordered two, and both came this way. Is it hard to move them
Answer:	We didn’t get the blue, however the sound quality is horrible and we can’t get it tuned either. Thank goodness we only needed it for a display.

Question:	The tote bag it looks like sack. Does it protect the Ulk? any padding
Answer:	All ukuleles are small, and if you have larger hands, you might find the short scale of a soprano to be cramped. No ukulele could be called "too big", so try to find a shop that has all four sizes and decide which is most comfortable for you. The tenor is easy to play and has more depth and "punch", but the little soprano wins on charm.
Question:	many reviews mention instrument not holding tune. is this due to poor tuners, or just string stretch that occurs on any instrument
Answer:	Read the reviews. My wife loves hers. Mine developed a crack in the top within two weeks of owning it and I returned and swapped for a Kala KA-S. I think that my wife's less expensive Kala KA-15S has a nicer tone than mine. But yes, it's good quality. It's made of lovely wood too. A very beautiful little instrument. I recommend buying from Amazon and saving the shipping materials until you're sure you love it. Returns are free on Amazon...for a time. :)
Question:	Is the ukulele that comes with the starter kit the ka-15s because it says ltp-s on the inside of the instrument
Answer:	That's how ukuleles are suppose to be strung traditionally. Its called re-entrant and a few other stringed instruments do this as well. And most teaching material is for ukes strung that way. Don't rearrange the strings or it will be impossible to use chord the standard chord fingerings. If you want linear tuning (like on guitar) you have to by strings that say "low g" on the package. That way the finger patterns still work. But I wouldn't do this if I were a beginner because it will sound less like a traditional ukulele if you did that. Some people do that but those people are purposefully trying to create a unique sound, and they usually do it on a tenor ukulele, not soprano.
Question:	can strings be replaced when they break by standard strings
Answer:	I got one for me and my sister. Most low cost ukuleles are unplayable until you have them set up and restrung with better quality strings. Not this one. It comes ready to play out of the box, it just takes a couple weeks until the strings don't fall out of tune, but that's true of all nylon strings.

Question:	Is it really easy to convert for a left-handed player
Answer:	It is very much a sack. It is not padded. More of a back sling for carrying.
Question:	Would this size work for a 4 year old
Answer:	This is the case on all ukuleles and classical guitars. It has nothing to do with the tuners. It is because of the nylon plastic string and the tie they do at the bridge. If you sign up for "Learn to Play" on Kala's website they show you how to tune and stretch your strings.
Question:	Does this ukelele anti shattered and crack/brake also chip if drop in hard rock for hiking
Answer:	It is a different ukulele from the KA-15S. I'm not sure exactly how different but if you go to the Kala website and look at the specs for each the specs are slightly different. So it's definitely not a KA-15S with a different label slapped on it or anything.
Question:	Does this come with a gig bag
Answer:	I know this question was already answered, but I would just like to reinforce: the strings on this instrument are Aquila Nylguts. These strings are very much the standard for ukulele. Far too many reviewers have referred to these as "toy" strings. I can only assume that this is due to them only being familiar with traditional guitars, and not the larger body of stringed instruments available. Although it's an innocent mistake, it's a misunderstanding that is very likely to discourage someone from purchasing what is actually a very good instrument for it's price range. It's especially damaging when they present the information in a way that implies that they know what they are talking about, when they clearly do not. In comparison to guitars, ukulele are relatively delicate instruments. More importantly, they do not have a truss rod in the neck. While some tenor ukulele can hold up to steel strings, a little soprano like this would almost certainly warp, or even flat out fail, under that kind of pressure. I won't say it's impossible, but I definitely wouldn't risk mine trying to make it work. Either way, ukulele are not designed to use metal strings. Most ukulele strings are made from some variation of nylon, just like a classical guitar. You may have heard them referred to as "gut," or "catgut" strings, because they were originally made out of animal intestine. Nylon is now preferred for obvious reasons. If you were to go out and buy a $1500 ukulele, there is a very high chance that it would be strung with either these exact same strings, or Aquila SuperNylgut strings. It's just a matter preference. These are very much real, professional grade strings. One thing that I really like about Aquila is that even though they are the industry standard when it comes to ukulele strings, they are actually a surprisingly small, family run company. That may not matter to anyone else, but it makes me just a little bit happier to support them. Fun fact: All that being said, you actually can get strings that are made of flourocarbon (which is exactly the same material that fishing line is made from). Very few people use them, though. I've only ever heard people complain about the way they feel, and I believe that stretching is a much bigger problem with them. I've never tried them personally, however.

Question:	Does this come with a pick to play it with
Answer:	I don't know whether it's easy to convert. I'm left-handed, and my left-handed ukulele teacher advised me to learn to play right-handed as he does. It's only a little harder at first.
Question:	Stupid and newbie question, how am I suppose to restring this ukulele? The saddle is not the typical saddle similar to classical guitars
Answer:	Yes! it would be great for a 4 year old! Perfect size for smaller hands.
Question:	how do you determine what size to buy
Answer:	I doubt it would survive a drop onto rock. It's just thin plastic.

Answer:	It comes with a light, drawstring bag that can be carried like a backpack. The material is very thin, think those reusable grocery bags. It is fine for carting around, but I don't think it would provide much protection.
