14 best bass shaker

A bass shaker is a specialized piece of equipment used in audio and music production, as well as in home theater systems and gaming setups. It is designed to enhance the low-frequency (bass) tactile feedback or vibrations experienced by users. Bass shakers are sometimes referred to as tactile transducers or bass transducers.

Here are some key points about bass shakers:

  1. Function: Bass shakers are typically mounted to furniture such as chairs, couches, or platforms. They are designed to reproduce low-frequency audio signals (bass) as physical vibrations, allowing users to feel the bass in addition to hearing it. This provides a more immersive and tactile experience when listening to music, watching movies, or playing video games.

  2. Use in Home Theater: In home theater systems, bass shakers can be installed in seating to simulate the rumble of explosions, the thump of music, or the roar of a car engine, enhancing the cinematic experience.

  3. Gaming: Gamers often use bass shakers to feel the impact of in-game explosions, gunshots, and other low-frequency effects, adding an extra layer of immersion to their gaming experience.

  4. Music Production: In music production, bass shakers can be used in studio recording environments to provide musicians and producers with a physical sensation of the bass frequencies in their music. This can help in achieving a more precise and impactful mix.

  5. Integration: Bass shakers can be integrated into existing audio systems or used as standalone devices. They typically require an amplifier to power them and a signal source, such as a subwoofer output from an audio receiver or a dedicated bass shaker controller.

  6. Types: There are different types of bass shakers available, including individual shakers that can be mounted on specific furniture pieces and platforms equipped with multiple shakers to provide a more widespread tactile experience.

  7. Installation: Installing bass shakers involves attaching them securely to the chosen furniture or platform. Proper installation is essential to ensure that the vibrations are distributed evenly and that the equipment remains stable.

  8. Adjustability: Many bass shakers come with adjustable settings, allowing users to control the intensity of the vibrations to suit their preferences.

  9. Compatibility: Bass shakers are typically compatible with a wide range of audio equipment, including AV receivers, audio processors, and gaming consoles, making them versatile additions to various entertainment setups.

In summary, bass shakers are devices that enhance audio experiences by translating low-frequency audio signals into physical vibrations. They find applications in home theaters, gaming setups, and music production environments, providing users with a more immersive and tactile audio experience.

User questions & answers

Question: Do these produce audio? i currently have 8 ohm shakers and with the tv sound on 0, the shakers produce loud audio. i only want the vibration
Answer: It will make audio. If you don't want audible sound you have to filter the inputs to the shaker. It's called a low pass filter.
Question: can these take 25-35% more wattage over the rated rms
Answer: Yes they (it) can. However, you need to keep an eye how hot its getting. I use a temperature activated computer cooling fan on mine.
Question: would a single one of these be better than two of the Dayton Audio pucks
Answer: I haven't done a direct comparison between the 2, but also depends on the application. The audio puck is small, less powerful, available in either 8 or 16 ohms. I bought 2 of the bst-1's 4 ohm for my couch on each end, opposing each other, wired in series to get 8 ohms. I also wired one of them in reverse polarity so that they would be in phase with each other. It really feels like you're there, in the movie or video game. Most household amplifiers are stable at 8 ohms, and most car amps are stable around 4 ohms or less.
Question: If I have an 18" woofer, would I need a shaker
Answer: Depends on usage. At home? Can add nice tactile bass experience without needing the high volume an 18" woofer does for the same sensation. I use my BST-1 under my mattress, on top of the box spring. I can feel lows that are barely audible, which the roommates appreciate. For an open venue, 18" woofer is fine, while a BST-1 has very limited application, IMO. I mean, I was to DJ a beach party last weekend, BST-1's don't work on the sand, could have used an 18" woofer. At a houseboat party I have DJ'd at, the BST-1 turns the hot tub into a subwoofer, so there an 18" and BST-1 are both welcome and useful. I can't cover every possible use, I hope the 3 examples given will help you.

User questions & answers

Question: Can 4 units be placed under a king sized bed, with 2 people in it (600lbs total weight
Answer: Might need more than 4 units.... they also get hot! Plus you need to mount them to the bed frame not just place it under the mattress
Question: is this a pair or a single
Answer: Mine was a single. Since I wanted two, I had to place an order for a quantity of 2.
Question: Can I install this into a boombox type speaker or is it too powerful
Answer: You won’t get any sound from this. Shakes the heck out of our movie chairs.
Question: Can I used a A/V receiver with this instead of an AMP
Answer: No, this needs an amp. You can buy a cheap car subwoofer amplifier like this one: https://www.amazon.com/BOSS-Audio-R1100M-Monoblock-Subwoofer/dp/B004S4XNEO Since it's 1100W (theoretically), I would wire all of the bass shakers in series, and connect to the amp above.

AuraSound AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker Tactile Transducer

Aura Sound

Product description

The Bass Shaker products allow you to experience every thump, thrust and shake...the way bass sound was originally intended. Mount the bass shaker firmly onto the object or furniture you want to vibrate. It must be mounted to something solid, like wood. The bass shaker produces a vibration at about 40Hz. Wire two together in series for an 8 ohm load or use a single at 4 ohm. Does not require a crossover. Only a 50 to 100 watt amplifier is needed to power it. Higher wattage is okay of course. Connecting two in parallel is a 2 ohm load, too low for most amplifiers. Here is how you add bass shakers to your home theater system: 1) Find the variable low-level RCA output for the subwoofer (LFE) channel on the rear panel of your AV receiver and disconnect the cable going to your powered subwoofer. 2) Connect a RCA Y-cable to the subwoofer output on your receiver. 3) Connect the cable from your subwoofer to one end of the Y-cable. 4) Connect a cable to the remaining unused end of the Y-cable to an input on the amplifier being used to power the shakers. 5) Connect the shakers to the output of the amplifier. 6) Set the relative level of the shakers by adjusting the volume control on the amplifier driving them.

  • 50-Watt Pro Bass Shaker
  • 5.4 x 2.2" Frame
  • Impedance @ 4 Ohms and 40 Hz resonance frequency

User questions & answers

Question: The product description says the shaker is 5.4" wide - is this accurate? What is the spacing for the mounting holes
Answer: The outside diameter to the fins is 156mm or 6.14". The bolt hole circle diameter is 143.5mm or 5.65". It will take a #8 screw. The actual vibrating area on the bottom is 130mm or 5.1".
Question: What's the best amp to use with these? Cheap but decent quality preferred
Answer: I use a behringer inuke nu1000dsp, it works really good for 3 aura pros. sorry but I can't even remember where I got it from, but I think I paid 175 bucks on sale new. to me these shakers work as good as the ones that are a lot more expensive like buttkickers.
Question: Is the enclosure made out of metal or plastic
Answer: I believe it is made partially out of metal and some type of polymer material. Likely some time of Polypropylux (very sturdy and strong plastic material that has many uses).
Question: Can I just hook one of these into the Preamp output on my amp and attach to my chair. I will be using it in my audio system, not home theater
Answer: Gary these transducers are rated at 50 watts. A preamp output is not what you should consider for driving this load. Think Amplifier not Preamp! An amp that is capable of more than 30 to 35 watts should be best suited for this purpose. If you download the manual for this product you can find warnings not to surpass the 50 watt per unit rating. All* of those prior answers were Internet noise. #1. Neither helpful nor informative #2. Borderline helpful but not informative #3. What? & Wrong! #4.* I might be too hard on Sara. She is right to drive a group of these with hundreds of watts of power and Sara is also correct in guessing that the low preamp power will not work with the Bass Shaker. My contention with her response is that the harm of testing is that it is a complete waste of time. It is sort of trying to see if your toaster will work without power. How could it?

User questions & answers

Question: How do I hook it up to a surround sound 5.1 system
Answer: You need an Amplifier. ButtKicker sales their own brand or you can buy a third party brand.
Question: what type of amplifier is good enough for this bass shaker
Answer: 50w minimum. but I recommend at least 120w.
Question: what kind of cables are used to hook this up? is it just simple speaker wires like any other speaker
Answer: Yes, you should use speaker wire. Think of the Buttkickers as a silent subwoofer. They vibrate in synch with the subwoofer channel and supplement your subwoofer(s). You will need an amp to power the Buttkickers also. You usually need a dedicated amp.
Question: Are these the latest revision of the mini lfe's which have the simvibe edition features incorporated into them
Answer: I can only speak for our own shop. But the stock we have are the latest version ButtKicker BK-mini-LFE.

ButtKicker BK-LFE Low Frequency Effects System

Buttkicker

Based on 51 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Low Frequency Effects ButtKicker version for Home Theater use - 4 ohm

The only tactile transducer designed specifically to take advantage of the 0.1 and LFE (low frequency effects) channels, the ButtKicker LFE features extended low-frequency response for powerful bass and special effects. If you are looking to delight and electrify yourself and others with an affordable and easy-to-use solution, now is the time to incorporate the ButtKicker into your sound-system's design and feel what you've been missing.

The ButtKicker LFE Low Frequency Effects System utilizes a patented magnetic suspension and can be used in couches, theater seating, platforms, and any type of structure. Different from other shakers or tactile transducers that use voice coil technology, the ButtKicker is much more powerful, more musical (linear), and offers true infrasonic, or low-frequency response with a resonant frequency of 9 Hz. The ButtKicker LFE utilizes a small, linear motor, which reacts to an audio signal sent by an amplifier.

The system is similar to a loudspeaker, but instead of moving a cone and transferring sound waves through the air, it attaches to seats and floors, and sends low-frequency sound directly into the listener's body to accurately reproduce the "feeling" range of many natural and man-made sounds, such as earthquakes, thunderstorms, sound effects, and all styles of music. One ButtKicker LFE will easily replace two, four, or more voice coil-type shakers, and it is virtually indestructible and maintenance free. The ButtKicker LFE is used in everything from theme-park attractions and specialty theaters, to car-stereo systems, and custom home theaters.

The ButtKicker LFE Low Frequency Effects System is small and unobtrusive, but powerful. Measuring only 5.375 x 5.5 x 5.375 inches (WxHxD), the ButtKicker weighs 11 pounds, and has a frequency range of 5 to 200 Hz. This unit has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, and a power handling that ranges from a minimum of 400 watts to a 1,500-watt maximum.

  • Offers true infrasonic, or low-frequency response with a resonant frequency of 9 Hz
  • Attaches to seats and floors, and sends low-frequency sound directly into the listener's body
  • Accurately reproduce the feeling range of many natural and man-made sounds
  • Power handling ranges from a minimum of 400 watts to a 1,500-watt maximum
  • Measures 5.375 x 5.5 x 5.375 inches (WxHxD), and weighs 11 pounds

User questions & answers

Question: Where would you mount this in a car? Also how would you mount this to a car
Answer: Typically in the trunk. It's too tall for anywhere else. But it's not your best choice for a car anyhow; this thing requires a LOT of power. It's moving a big piston. And it's heavy, while you want your car light for performance. An Aurasound or Clark Synthesis transducer is smaller, easier to mount to your seat's underside and more power-efficient. They won't -thump- as much, but they're better choices.
Question: What is the best amp for this. Try to be spacific
Answer: I called and talked with ButtKicker, they said the Dayton SA-1000 was the best and was equal to thwir amps. There is a company called Partsexpress.com with the best price, 398.00
Question: How many of these bad boys do I need to power a row of 4 home theater seats? 4? Or can I get away with
Answer: As long as the seats are attached solid you would be fine with 2 BK-LFE. You would also require an amplifier to power them.
Question: will one of these be suitable for a u shaped sectional couch? Each sectional (5 pieces) is attached by only a metal linkage
Answer: In your case, in all probability, only the section that the Buttkicker is mounted to will experience any significant shaking since you need a really SOLID mechanical connection between the Buttkicker and the sofa, and between the sections to transmit the vibrations. It would be a good idea to check out some of the YouTube videos on mounting Buttkickers to sofas/chairs. BTW, I recommend mounting the Buttkicker to the frame of the sofa, rather than using the Under-leg Mounting Kit. The reason is that when the device is mounted to the frame of the sofa, you get forces transmitted to the structure on both the upward and downward strokes of the Buttkicker internal piston, whereas when you use the under-leg mounting method, the Buttkicker is driving its force into the floor with little motion for half of each cycle.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I connect a smart tv to amp then to a subwoofer
Answer: If your smart TV has Audio Out RCA type jack's, you could theoretically hook it up, but that would not be a subwoofer specific signal. It would work better if you connect your smart TV to a multichannel surround sound amplifier ( usually with and HDMI cable). The amps typically have an RCA output jack on the rear specifically for subwoofers. You then run a RCA connector cable from that jack to the input jack on this subwoofer amplifier, and attach the speaker output connectors to a good sized non powered speaker (also called a driver) and you're good to go.
Question: As the source volume increases does the subwoofer volume
Answer: Yes. The volume of the subwoofer will increase. Hope to help you. Thanks!
Question: will this power one 4 ohm 10 inch subwoofer and does it come with power cord
Answer: Yes, it can drive 2-8ohm subwoofer. Equipped with 24V/4.5A power adapter.
Question: Can you please share the dimensions of the box -- not just the package
Answer: The dimensions of the unit itself are: height - 1-9/16", width - 3-5/8", depth - 4-1/4"

Buttkicker

Based on 382 reviews Check latest price

Product description

For PC & Console Gaming and Digital Music-attaches to most center post chairs. Includes gamer, Gamer Amplifier and all wiring. 120V version, for North American use only.

From the Manufacturer

The ButtKicker BK-GR2 Gamer is awesome for gaming, simulation, computer entertainment, and digital music playback. This device works with all computer systems and all gaming consoles, and allows you to feel the gut-wrenching punch of machine-gun fire, the pounding of chopper blades, racing engines, gear-shifts, explosions and more. With the ButtKicker Gamer you can experience powerful bass even while you're using headphones.

But what is it and how does it work? The ButtKicker is a small linear motor that reacts to an audio signal sent by an amplifier. The ButtKicker Gamer comes with its own 90-watt amplifier that is convection-cooled with vents so there’s no noisy fan. It also includes a wired remote control so you can stash the amp out of sight and still operate its core features. It is similar to a loudspeaker, but instead of a moving a cone and transferring sound waves through the air, the ButtKicker Gamer is attached to your seat and sends a low frequency sound directly into your body. The effect is amazing.

The human body uses two senses to perceive full-range sound. We hear sound, but we also feel it, especially low frequencies. Traditionally it takes big speakers to move a tremendous amount of air for us to feel low frequency sound. That's why so many people love loud concerts -- they want to feel the music as well as hear it. The ButtKicker Gamer reproduces the feeling range of audio in a more direct way than through air movement. The perception is actually better, plus the sound pressure disappears. For example, when using headphones with the BK-GR2, you'll still perceive powerful, musically accurate, concert-level audio, but no one else will hear anything.

The ButtKicker Gamer can take your gaming experience to an awesome level without angering your neighbors. To get the full effect of exciting, action-packed video game titles you'd normally need a huge audio entertainment system that you could pump up to a disturbing-the-peace level. The ButtKicker Gamer solves the problem and adds the big bass feeling without the giant, disruptive volume.

Designed to be responsive and aggressive, the ButtKicker Gamer answers the need for both accurate low frequency response and maximum immersion. Video games, sim racing and flight simulators have never been so realistic or intense.

What They're Saying

From "iGames" magazine

I wasn't sure what fate had in mind when I unpacked the Buttkicker and got it set up. I know that many of you think “buttkicker” and think of an older brother or cousin beating the tar out of you for no reason. No my friends, this is a device that enhances your overall “entertainment” experience by amplifying low frequency sounds and it connects to a chair.

International Flight-Sim Convention

The winner of this year's CES Innovation Award didn't go to some great computer device that makes computers quicker or quieter, or to anything with a lowercase I before it's name, but rather to a product that straps onto your chair, sends thumping vibrations through your seat.

Hardware-Review.net: Buttkicker Gamer

When you're gaming at LAN parties or with a bunch of friends in a garage or basement, using your 5.1 stereo sound system when you're fragging them isn't an option. So, what are you going to do when you want that "bass feel", but you have to use headphones? The ButtKicker Gamer was designed with this purpose in mind, and we just happen to have one on our test bench to review today.

What's in the Box

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have an in coaxle rca
Answer: No
Question: So you need splitters for this to work on xboxonex or ps4 pro
Answer: For me, yes. I have a 7.2 home stereo system and all I did was split the left side subwoofer RCA cable to the Buttkicker amp.
Question: Is this "ButtKicker BK-GR Gamer2" ? Or "ButtKicker BK-GR Gamer
Answer: It is ver 2 the new model and yes it is improved.
Question: Looking to use this on a pc sim rig, but i use a log usb wireless headset. from what i have read it can be very difficult to setup, is there a fix
Answer: This has zero to do with your headset. It’s just a glorified sub. The only wire that dictates length is the one going from the amp to the shaker. You could cut the shaker cord and splice it but I can’t imagine you being that far away. This unit has nothing to do with usb connections. You could hook it up to a home stereo.

User questions & answers

Question: When using this with a subwoofer how do I know where to set the frequency cortrol knob
Answer: Without having a proper test microphone and measurement software (such as SMAART), you could use a sine wave generator (or a collection of prerecorded sine waves from 40-200 Hz) and a sound pressure meter (or sound pressure phone app). The accuracy of low frequency sound pressure measurements will depend on your telephone. Google subwoofer setup procedure.
Question: When using in sub mode, which rca input to plug in? left or right or both
Answer: Hello. Please see our second main image. The "audio in" rca posts are connected to sound sources. The "spk out" posts are a set of speaker binding posts. When in sub mode, you need to connect your passive subwoofer with bare wire or banana plug. If you still have questions, you can send your device models and images to [email protected]. We will help you with it.
Question: Why are there left and right inputs for a mono amp? If you have a mono source, can you plug it into only one input, or do you have to connect to both
Answer: Hello. We have a using guide picture in the listing. You can check that. We have left and right inputs since some customers using stereo signal. If yours are mono, just connect one input.
Question: will this power a 50 watt bass shaker
Answer: This amp cuts off at 20 Hz with presumably a subsonic filter, how can it power bass shakers? You need to go down to 5 Hz for that.

User questions & answers

Question: Will the mo2 work with an preamp subwoofer out from a pioneer vsx-d508 receiver or does it require line level inputs
Answer: Power cable is 78” total. From right angle 3-prong plug molded onto the 14-2 Romex equivalent power cable to the pre-stripped ends. Realistically an in wall run of 5 foot max.
Question: Can i use a single to dual rca cable (single lfe from receiver, dual rca to l r on amp
Answer: yes, panamax should work with converter from 220v to 120v.
Question: I have a stereo 3.5 mm audio connector from my source. can i use adapter from 3.5 mm into split (l&r) rca connectors for input? safe to join commons
Answer: Yes & No. It will work but the AVM high volt shut off point will be reduced to approximately 130VAC. So you would want to use the lowest output voltage setting on the Stepdown transformer. I would suggest the 110VAC output.
Question: Wouldn't this be underpowered for a 4 ohm 8inch 200watt peek sub compared to the same sub at 8 ohms
Answer: That would be correct if you want the incoming signal protected. A power spike on the incoming signal should be stopped before it gets to the equipment. Cat 5/6 or phone line can be protected the same way. I love this power conditioner.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this transducer ever bottom out? The larger unit costs a lot more
Answer: I use 2 of these MQB-1 Transducers in a series of three. Meaning I've got 2 Earthquake and 1 ButtKicker transducer units in series that plays off of a separate additional 1000A amplifier (ButtKicker BKA-10004A Amplifier). The Buttkicker transducer can absorb and output a lower frequency (rumble) signal so I set my ButtKicker amplified to 70 Hz to protect the earthquake units. Can you bottom these units out...Yes, of course. The volume for the output is critical. Experimentation is needed, too loud and the units float (bottom out) versus not enough energy and the response is muted. I set the ButtKicker Amplifier volume at the 11 o'clock position for Blu-Ray playback and the 1 o'clock position for Cox On-Demand and NetFlix playback. I cannot answer how to set up a different amplifier and your back to experimentation. The Earthquake support helpline is of invaluable assistance if you can't get your system optimized.
Question: Does Earthquake have a recommended amplifier that goes with this
Answer: No. I am using a Crown XLS 1002 which is more than enough power in bridged-mono mode with 2 of these in parallel.

  • Turn any solid surface into a great sounding speaker system
  • Create a completely hidden surround sound system
  • 3M adhesive pads for secure and fast placement
  • Wideband frequency response (dependent on attached material)

User questions & answers

Question: could these be concealed behind a bookcase or couch (with a gap)? or do they need to be unobstructed
Answer: I think that the only problem would be that the sound will be obstructed but I don’t why you cannot do it.
Question: Will they work pressed up against a surface for temporary location or does it have to be stuck on with the adhesive
Answer: Pressing them against the surface will prevent the transducer from vibrating. They work just like a speaker, minus the cone. They can be relocated. New 3m double sided works or hot glue's great too.
Question: Im assuming these have an impedance rating, but its not listed or mentioned; whats the impedence rating, in ohms
Answer: According to what I've found elsewhere, 8 ohms of impedance, 5 watts RMS, 10 watts peak.
Question: Can these get as loud as say, a $30-50 pair of computer speakers w/o distortion? Thinking of using with a projector for movies, powered by a T-amp
Answer: Hi, they can handle a lot surprisingly and don't distort too bad depending on what type of surface you put them on. They have a 3M back adhesive and make sure you clean the surface they are going on so they stick really well(rubbing alcohol). I have this type amp Lepai LP-2020A+ Tripath Class-T Hi-Fi Audio Mini Amplifier and this thing is really nice. It has treble and bass as well with tone and direct. They bass is pretty good but you might want to pair it with some tweeters. If you want the rumble and don't care about High-highs then they will be feet your needs. Just play around with the volume you're going to be using them @ and adjust treble and bass until you're satisfied.Hope that helps.
