14 best art audio mixers
Art Audio Mixers, also known as audio mixing consoles or sound mixers, are essential tools in the field of music production, recording, and live sound reinforcement. They are used to adjust and balance the audio signals from various sources, such as microphones, musical instruments, and playback devices, to create a cohesive and high-quality audio mix. Here are some key aspects related to Art Audio Mixers:
Types of Mixers:
- Unpowered Mixers: These mixers do not have built-in amplifiers and are commonly used in situations where an external amplifier is used to drive the speakers. They are often more compact and portable.
Components:
Channels: Audio mixers typically consist of multiple input channels, each with its own set of controls. These controls include faders, equalization (EQ) knobs, pan knobs, and auxiliary sends, among others.
Master Section: This section controls the overall output of the mixer. It includes the master fader, which adjusts the volume of the entire mix, as well as master EQ and effects controls.
Auxiliary Sends: Mixers often have auxiliary sends that allow you to send a portion of each channel's signal to external effects processors or monitor speakers.
Applications:
Studio Recording: Audio mixers are used in recording studios to blend and balance the sound of individual instruments and voices, creating a polished final mix.
Live Sound: In live sound reinforcement, mixers are used to control the audio from microphones, instruments, and playback devices, ensuring that the audience hears a clear and balanced sound.
Connectivity:
- Mixers come with various input and output options, including XLR, TRS, and RCA connectors, to accommodate different types of audio sources and equipment.
Size and Portability:
- Art Audio Mixers come in various sizes, from compact portable mixers with a limited number of channels to large and complex mixing consoles used in professional studios and concert venues.
Digital vs. Analog:
- Some audio mixers are analog, while others are digital. Digital mixers offer more advanced features and digital signal processing capabilities, allowing for greater flexibility and control.
Brands and Models:
- There are many reputable brands that manufacture audio mixers, including Yamaha, Behringer, Mackie, Allen & Heath, and others. The choice of a mixer often depends on the specific needs and budget of the user.
Art Audio Mixers play a crucial role in shaping the sound of music and audio productions, whether in the recording studio or at live events, by providing control and flexibility over audio signals. When selecting a mixer, it's important to consider the number of channels needed, the type of inputs and outputs required, and any additional features such as built-in effects processing.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used to mix balanced TRS signals |
Answer: | Hello matt: This is a passive mixer splitter. Which uses resistors. Any passive signal path solution, there are some technical caveats. For a start, the input and output impedances vary considerably with the configuration and volume control settings: the input impedance ranges from 25-100 kΩ, and the output impedance from 1-4 kΩ. Secondly, there’s some inherent loss of level through the unit, even with the level control at maximum, typically amounting to around 12dB. Consequently, this unit is only practicable when used with active electronic sources and destinations that have very low source impedance and high input impedance. So we’re basically talking here of electronic keyboards, drum machines, mixers, powered speakers and recording devices; it can’t be used directly with microphones or electric guitars as sources, or with headphones or passive speakers as output devices. It’s also important to keep cables as short as practical to avoid the potential loss of high frequencies. These minor technical considerations aside, the SPLITMix4 is a fantastically versatile and well-made little unit that makes a brilliant problem-solver wherever it’s necessary to combine, distribute, or control the level of a number of unbalanced mono or stereo signals. Its simplicity and relatively low cost belies the genius of its design. For sound critical situations, get a device that has a power supply, either external or internal. This type of design will use amplifier IC's inside, and will do a better job of keeping each inputs signal from bleeding into another. But your cost will go up to $ 200.00 and higher. |
Question: | Will this work as a passive headphone splitter/box being driven by a 2 watt amplifier |
Answer: | The output would be stereo, keep in mind you will need an amplifier if you use this though along with 3.5mm to 1/4 inch adapters so you can plug in your phone and pc. Any basic headphone amp should work. I also use this with my phone, PS3 and computer all at once |
Question: | When used as a mixer, does this unit effectively isolate the four inputs from each other to prevent backfeeding of signals between devices |
Answer: | One I received was 115VAC. |
Question: | Hi i would like to listen to music from my phone and my games from my PC in my headset can i do this? and would the sound be Stereo or mono |
Answer: | Hi Patti, according to ART it's 6" deep. If this was helpful, please consider buying from us. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio |

ART SPLITMix4 Passive Four-Channel Stereo/Mono Splitter
The ART SPLITMix4 is a fully passive hybrid mixer that offers a wide variety of configurations. Mix 4 stereo input channels down to 1 stereo output, split a stereo input signal to distribute 4 stereo output channels, or combine the configurations for a wide range of applications. You can even configure the SPLITMix4 as 4 stereo input channels thru 4 independent level attenuators to 4 stereo output channels.
Additional Information
Independent stereo level controls are provided on each channel. All 1/4-inch connections are stereo TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) and all channel connections have intelligent switching to allow for a wide variety of configurations. Plugging into a mix input channel removes it from the splitter bus, and plugging into a splitter output channel removes it from the mix bus. Stereo or mono operation is determined by the type of 1/4-inch plug and cabling that you use.
The fully passive design of the SPLITMix4 has no active circuitry to add noise or distortion, and virtually any signal level can be handled. The Level attenuators cover a wide range and offer over 90dB of attenuation and channel isolation. The SPLITMix4 is designed primarily as a line level device with medium input and output impedances.

- an FX Loop
User questions & answers
Question: | Is this 240 volts |
Answer: | I would say no. The hum you're getting is induced into your pick-up as a part of your audio signal. This is a transformer isolation device which breaks ground-loop hum which is caused by slightly different currents between 2 different 120 volt outlets. |
Question: | Is the FX loop global to all inputs? I'd like to apply it only to mic inputs, and not the line inputs, but there appear to be no channel sends |
Answer: | Hi Jason,I would use an 1/8" to XLR Male Y cable like this:http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CYX-403M-Stereo-Breakout-Cable/dp/B000068OEP/ref=sr_1_9?m=A3QYKZ7LXW9O3&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1448889739&sr=1-9&keywords=hosa+1%2F8+to+xlrIf this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us. We have them both in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio |
Question: | Looking for a art 2000 express rack mount |
Answer: | No "BUT" all outputs are ground isolated from the chassis so a "lift" switch is not necessary when using this. |
Question: | What does the in/out button on the fx loop do |
Answer: | Yes, the input signal, regardless of connector used, is present on all outputs. http://artproaudio.com/downloads/specsheets/ss_dti.pdf |

The MX225 is designed for remote volume control of multiple amplifiers or powered speakers in a distributed audio system. Two stereo sources are available to each of five output zones.
- Left and right balanced Source 1 and 2 Inputs, accepts stereo or mono signal sources
- Source 1 and 2 input channels are internally routed to all five Zone channels
- 5 Zone channels each feature Source 1 and 2 level controls and left and right balanced output XLRs
- Stereo/Mono selector on each zone sums left and right into Mono mode when engaged
User questions & answers
Question: | Using my crossover with left and right output can i hook left for may low frequency and right for my mid frequency |
Answer: | The channel zone distributor is meant to act like 5 volume controlled sources, to move 5 stereo amplifiers independently. The inputs to the distributor can be only two which can be selected or mixed with the volume controls of the distributor. Then you can connect 5 stereo amplifiers so you can have 5 zones with different volumes and with different or same music controlled by the distributor. The number of speakers you can connect to the amplifiers will depend on the amplifiers specs. The distributor is a preamplifier. Is has no power to move speakers. |
Question: | Using my mixer with left and right outs,Can I have zone control of 3 sets of speakers for my dj setup? Any altrnatives |
Answer: | No it only accepts line level sources. You would need an external mic preamp. - Pixel Pro Audio |
Question: | Wich amplifier shoul I use to run five zones with 4 speakers each? Is it possible or just stand 2 speakers per zone |
Answer: | The 1/4" jacks in the SPLITMix4 are intended to support Stereo mixing, so they're TRS jacks. If ALL of your inputs are balanced TRS signals, then the output from the SPLITMix4 will be a mix of the Positive signals and a mix of the Negative signals presented as a balanced TRS signal. That's a bit unorthodox, but it should give you a workable result at a very reasonable price. |
Question: | Can I hook a microphone directly to the input of this mixer? Is a pre-amp needed |
Answer: | I would assume yes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i connect 2 microphones and a DJ mixer to this unit and then run it to my speakers |
Answer: | All units of the MX822 have a 250V power fuse. However, the power is configured for the country in which the unit is marketed. The manual says: Power Requirements USA: 95-125 VAC, 50-60 Hz, Export units configured for country of destination |
Question: | Are there 1/4inch outputs as well as XLR or only XLR |
Answer: | Amazon asked if I had an answer for your 60Hz noise. I installed one in my church's A/V rack and we experienced *no* 60Hz hum. Having said this I always lay out sound systems with single point ground so that ground loops, the most prevalent source of 60Hz hum, cannot occur. There are good tutorials about ground loops available on-line. Since I had a power conditioner for the ART product, that was in the rack and was conditioning all the audio equipment both in the rack and on the dais, the ART performed well. I'd recommend you first try to ensure all your ground point come from a single outlet. If this doesn't clear up the problem you might try lifting the ground to the ART using a 2-prong AC ground lift to determine if this corrects the problem. If so purchase something like a Hosa GLT-255 to correct the problem permanently - you don't want to leave the 2-prong AC ground lift in-circuit permanently as it can present safety issue under certain conditions. Hope this assists you in solving the 60Hz issue you are experiencing. Dee |
Question: | Can this item work on 220 volts AC |
Answer: | This is a speaker distribution. The signal will flow into the 5 zones. For the specific use you are mentioning, I use DBX Driverack 260. I have not tried the configuration you are asking since I found that the DBX does the job perfectly in all the three ranges with 6 inputs. When you connect a Crossover basically you go from Mixer to input of crossover and from then audio sources ( active speakers for example) will go to the outputs. This Art distributor is connected the same way: Input from mixer and active speakers in the outputs. So I dont see how it is possible to do it directly from the crossover to this unit unless you go through a mixer or other audio source. So because of all this, I decided to go with a Driverack. Does all in one, eq, high, mid and low range distribution, less hassle connecting, less money spent and same result.. |
Question: | Total junk, bought it but amazon will not allow me to write a review! amazon, liquid audio, and art have not addressed loud 60 hz hum. suggestions |
Answer: | Absolutely,. The speakers need to be active to go out using only the mixer and the unit. If not active or powered, you will need other source to be connected as per previous answers. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this unit include the power supply |
Answer: | Hi John, It has XLR outputs only. Even if you're running into something with 1/4" inputs after this device, that shouldn't matter. You would just need XLR to 1/4" cables, which we can also sell you. The only question is, does whatever you're feeding the mixer into have 1/4" TRS Balanced inputs, or 1/4" TS Unbalanced inputs. User questions & answers
Question: | Can this Power my Passive Speakers |
Answer: | 8 tracks (6 xlr + 2 1/4) And you can ad a device like iPod or laptop audio with a rca cable. |
Question: | For USB recording, can I have four people (each using their own mic) sent to my computer at the same time? Using it for a podcast |
Answer: | It’s only a stereo output with the USB cable. |
Question: | I am going to purchase three (Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Condenser USB Microphone) mics. Will these plug into this mixer? Sorry I'm brand new at this |
Answer: | As long as the mixer has oitputs - RCA or 1/4inch jacks you can connect to a Desktop or Laptop. You need only find a jumper cable with a stereo RCA plug at one end and a 3.5 mm jack at the other end. You plug the output from the mixer to the MIC and or Aux in on the PC if laptop maybe the same hole/jack as the hradphones. They are often 2 in 1 setups these days. I have my mixer hooked up this way and it allows me to then add whatever I like to the input on the mixer to record on my PC with outstanding results. |
Question: | Im interested in buying this. We have 6 mics, and need to record the audio from all of them to a laptop during meetings. Will this do what I need |
Answer: | I do not have a P16. I do run different brands of in ears off the Aux outputs of the X32 including the brand and version you mentioned. The presonous does not compare to the x32 in my opinion. |

Sonically Superior Mic Preamps
All Xenyx mixers have one thing in common – great-sounding, high headroom Xenyx mic preamps. These state-of-the-art mic pres represent a major step in the evolution of audio technology – and they can easily hold their own, even when compared to the most expensive stand-alone mic preamps. Xenyx preamps offer a staggering 130 dB of dynamic range, with a bandwidth that extends from below 10 Hz to well above 200 kHz. Armed with these outstanding mic preamps, Xenyx mixers provide such transparent, crystal-clear performance you just might think someone upgraded your mics while you weren’t looking.
One-Knob Compression
Ask professional sound engineers what their favorite piece of external processing gear is and the majority response will be virtually unanimous – dynamic compression. What is compression? We’re glad you asked. Compression essentially limits the dynamic range of a signal, lowering the level of loud sounds and turning up softer sounds, to achieve sonic balance. But applying compression is a delicate art that many novice, and even intermediate, sound techs find challenging. Our 'one-knob' compression is available on all mono channels and is easy to operate, even for entry-level users. With this one knob, you can easily dial in the perfect amount of compression for instruments and vocals, creating powerful mixes with punch and clarity. This is indeed a rare feature for products in this class – but standard on the Xenyx X1204USB mixer.

Sublimely Musical British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ‘70s changed the sound of rock and roll – without them the British Invasion might not have happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQ on our Xenyx mixers is based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to imbue signals with incredible warmth and detailed musical character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit sweet forgiveness and superb audio quality.
Built-in Digital Multi-FX Processor
Equipped with our studio-grade 24-bit Multi-FX processor, the X1204USB gives you 16 mind- blowing digital effect presets such as delay, chorus and reverb. Time-based functions can be entered manually by pressing the Tap button in tempo with the music. Apply them to any channel, as well as to the monitors and main output. Of course, if you have treasured outboard gear you’ve grown attached to, the X1204USB lets you integrate them into the mix – bypassing the built-in FX processor.
