User questions & answers
Question: | Is it good for siege |
Answer: | Yes, they are great for playing Siege. |
Question: | How do these compare to the m40x and m50x audio technica headphones |
Answer: | If you don't need a microphone with your headphones, then I would choose either the m40x or m50x. The PG1 comes with a microphone cable and a cell phone cable. As far as sound, I have noticed the PG1 is heavier on the bass compared to the m40x. I cannot verify this is same for everyone, but that has been my experience. |
Question: | Where can I buy a replacement mic for the Audio-Technica ATH-PDG1? Thanks |
Answer: | I would first try calling Audio Technica customer service. If they don't offer a replacement I can confirm that the V-moda Boom pro microphone fits and works perfectly. Sounds just as good as the standard microphone and has a longer cable that doesn't tangle like the standard one does. |
Question: | Does it have a noise cancelling mic |
Answer: | Here is what my box for the product states:Premium Microphone-Metal mesh reduces external noiseWhen I have used it in group skype calls I have been told there is little to no background noise picked up. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what are the differences between the 500x and the 700x? And how are these with movies |
Answer: | They are the best headphones I've ever owned. The only difference is what drivers are actually used, I've never owned the 700x but I'm sure they would more than likely be sufitient. |
Question: | are they good for gaming |
Answer: | I added an Antlion to mine and it works great for gaming. The positional audio is solid. If you want ground-rumbling bass, well, don't use a headset. My sounds card has a good EQ and the bass and overall sound is excellent. |
Question: | Does the cord have the option of detaching (unplugging) from the headset |
Answer: | Yes, if you want to mod it |
Question: | How does the sound quality on these compare to the ath-m40x? If you had to choose between the two for piano practice/orchestras, which would you pick |
Answer: | As the m40x is closed, I would imagine your question is about recording and monitoring? A closed monitor headphone would suit that objective very well. If you meant you were planning on enjoying music in a quiet and comfort of a room somewhere the ad700x will definitely open your ears and blow your mind a bit if you've never had an experience with open headphones before. Closed for monitoring or noise area, open for quiet and most enjoyable sound. Closed may have better bass. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these headphones come with a carrying case |
Answer: | No, they don't come, but I suggest to buy a case just in case. If you don't want to, buy it without a case, those are durable headphones, but you never know if you'll need the case to carry them in a bag, back pack, carry on. |
Question: | How does this compare to the ATH-M30? And how comfortable is it for extended hours of use |
Answer: | I can only respond to the 2nd part of your question as I have not tried the ATH-M30, but the ATH M20X was (for me) extremely uncomfortable even after using for only a short period of time. This was due to the, IMO, excessive heat build-up which literally caused pools of sweat to collect inside the earpieces. I returned the headset after a few days. |
Question: | are these good for big heads? i have trouble finding headphones that fit comfortably over my big head. also i wear glasses if that helps |
Answer: | They are pretty tight on the head, and they go over the ear, so if you're wearing glasses the soft part will push on your frames. I can't wear my glasses with them because I find it too uncomfortable. It might be better to look at on ear, rather than around ear headphones. That said, I've been able to loosen the headphones a lot by bending the the metal headband. If you're not afraid to do that with $50 then you might be able to get them to a comfortable "clamp" amount, haha. |
Question: | Are these noise-canceling enough to wear on a plane and not hear the plane noise |
Answer: | They do NOT have electronic noise canceling. They are over the ear. The cups absorb outside sound but not enough that would be considered "noise cancelling". They're mainly for DJ's, home, and professional studio producers who use them because electronic "Noise Cancelling" tech interferes with recordings. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Comparing to hifiman he 500,whats better in bass, sound stadge, highs |
Answer: | I'm have no first-hand experience with the Hifiman, but I can tell you that this is what most would consider "flat" response. It does not emphasize bass or treble unless you use your amplifier to do so. Personally I love these because out of the box they produce full range, realistic sound. However, you can use your amp or other equipment to push the bass, the treble, or customize the sound in any way you'd like as the range and response on these are studio quality. I also like that they are very light and the ear cups are actually large enough to go over my "elephant" ears and not just sit on top of them. I hope that helps! If not, I suggest checking the Audio-Technica website as it provides extensive details about their equipment. If you have technical questions, you can also contact their technical support. They were very helpful when I was selecting equipment! I highly recommend any of the AT products! Just a matter of selecting the one that best matches your preferences. |
Question: | Can these work with out an amplifier? are they still enjoyable without one connecting them directly to a smartphone or a computer? Thanks |
Answer: | These headphones do not need an amplifier to work with any source. They are at 470 ohms, studio quality and will need more signal, but still capable of working with any source. |
Question: | I have a large head, 7 3/8th fitted hat. Will these fit me comfortably |
Answer: | I have an even larger head (7 5/8) and these are comfy. The two pads on top move easily enough to not push onto your head too hard. And the spine doesn't push the pads too hard into the side of your head. Though, if you get a bad set of headphones, like I did, the pads can feel stiff and pointy by the stitching (which intensifies the pressure into a single point on the side of your head). It gave me a headache not long after putting them on. I exchanged them with another pair through Amazon, and the new pair of phones are great. They're currently my favorite to wear for long periods of time. |
Question: | Do these fit smaller heads decently |
Answer: | I have a large head, but minimum width is 4 inches from earcup to earcup, and the wings that rest on top of the head have a minimum span of about 8 inches from the top of one ear to the other. If your head is smaller than that you may prefer one of the AT headphones without the wings as those adjust using standard sliders. They are super comfortable, very light, and the open air design keeps them cool (my biggest complaint with most headphones is how hot my ears get). The sound is excellent, though some would describe as flat response, at least from the perspective of what the ear hears. If you like to drive the bass you'd probably want to use some sort of amp with them. Bear in mind ooen air also means you can hear if someone calls your name, the phone rings, etc (which I prefer to isolating, noise-cancelling, but depends on your situation), and depending on volume others near you may hear what your listening to (albeit very faintly). Extra details, but I hope it helps! I have numerous headsets and these are my favorite as they're easy to use for long periods of time (more than 8 hours) with no headache, ear fatigue, etc. More importantly the sound reproduction is very close, if not spot on, to being present in person for the recording. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My sofa is 20ft away from the tv. can i use the headset |
Answer: | If your controller is one ofthe original xbox one controllers yes, you will need an adapter. You will always need an adapter unless you replace the controller with a newer model. |
Question: | How can I use it for Phone |
Answer: | Yes. Some old airplanes have the 2- or 3-hole outlet, but usually the headphones they give then have a little adapter piece you can use. So try if it works, else see if you can get one of those adapter pieces from the headsets provided, or ask one of the flight attendants. I've just kept one of those adapter pieces from a previous flight, and carry it with me whenever I travel. |

User questions & answers
Question: | since there are the vents on the side, does the sound leak? can others hear it |
Answer: | These headphones are semi open back design. They sound much airier and natural compared to the closed back kind design. However on the downside, they do leak to some extent, specially on higher volumes. Others will be able to hear the higher freq. but will not be able to distinguish what is being played. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How do these compare to the Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones |
Answer: | I own both sets. The Sennheiser HD 598 and their predecessors HD 595 (see my review) are extremely SMOOTH, headphones you can fall asleep to. The Beyerdynamic DT 990-Pro 250 ohm are ANALYTICAL headphones. You will not fall asleep with these as they demand your full attention. Different purpose I would say. |
Question: | I see alot of reviews saying these headphones fatigue fairly quickly. I saw simuliar views on the grados and after an hour they began to really hurt |
Answer: | This is a common complaint, but let me clear things up a bit. Treble can sound fatiguing for two reasons: 1. energy storage in the treble, 2. loud treble. Energy storage is very bad, think of when you ring a bell. After the initial strike the bell continues ringing for several seconds. You don't want your headphones to do this, because not only will you get loud fatiguing treble, all the notes will blend together. An eq will not fix this. The second reason is having clean treble that's just louder than the rest of the spectrum. Grados are fatiguing for the first reason, DT990s for the second. The DT990 actually have very fast treble (no ringing), there's just a good 4-6dB bump from roughly 4 or 5khz up to about 8 or 9khz. If you tune that down with an EQ they sound great. Honestly I don't even use an EQ anymore, but if it bothers you and you have an eq, it's easy to fix. |
Question: | Are these better than beats are they more comftorable and do they have better sound quality, also does it have a mic |
Answer: | The point of these is purely sound quality and comfort, not portability. For the 80ohm you might be able to use ur phone, but for the 250s u need a dac/amp. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do these headphones do with classical/acoustic music? Is the sound natural and sufficiently good |
Answer: | These headphones are tuned very flat, which is ideal for classical and acoustic music. I am very much a fan of acoustic guitar, and acoustic jazz. In my opinion, they are superb for that purpose. As with anything, the recording mix is beyond the listener's control, but if the recording has not had too much artificial enhancing done, you will be very pleased with the performance of these headphones. Highly recommend. |
Question: | What about "noise pollution"? Will other people on the bus be able to identify the music i'm hearing, what is the critical volume these hp will out |
Answer: | As with all things, moderation is appropriate. If you want to throb your head and damage your hearing later in life, then things are different. Normal sound levels, with the ear pads cupped together, you cannot hear music, coming from the head phones, inches away from your ears. While on your head, you will hear the full range of music. Pay attention, you will feel the music, crisp and sharp, highs and lows, with good L/R separation. So unless your head is swiss cheese, even if it was, I think no one will hear anything coming from them, but you. I am speaking from experience, rural Sunday morning bedroom with the window open, light breeze through the trees, birds are content. I guess mating season is over.On the bus, with head splitting music? I think you are safe listening to top secret national defense briefings, in addition to any other music you can think of. That is, the bus is expected to be diesel/gas, in first or second gear, going 25+ MPH, and there are at least 10 people on board keeping to themselves. The headphones have good noise isolation, so your sound levels, depending on environment, will vary. You cannot hold a conversation, as that would be both difficult and rude, while wearing. All that to say NO, you are safe. The notion of critical volume is subjective. Since the object is to not damage hearing, critical volume is beyond the scope anyone should be using them. With that said, at 75% max volume on an iPhone in a relatively quite room, you will be able to identify the music for sure, with the ear pads cupped. Between 60% to 70% volume, you will not comprehend what is being listened too. At 50% you will hear no sound at all. On the bus, I suspect 75% to 90% is safe, while 100% volume could be heard quite clearly by the person sitting next to you. You could share your music with the ear cups opened out flat around you neck, without damaging anything. |
Question: | I have a big head. Will the ATH-M40x work for me |
Answer: | I have an abnormally large head, probably top 5% of the population. The ATH-M40x at maximum extension are a tiny bit snug. It's actually a really good fit. If you have a "big" head, you're fine. If you regularly find you can't wear other brands of headphones, the M40s aren't especially roomy. Try them and be prepared for a return if necessary. |
Question: | How does this compare to the M |
Answer: | It depends on your application. First, the M50 is now the M50x, which includes improved ear cups as well as three interchangeable cables (short, long, coiled). The M50's have a bit better isolation than the M40's. Sonically, the M50's has the flatter response on provides less coloration to the music than the M40. I.e., the M50 is very, very precise. You will hear the source faithfully and any coloration and soundstage needs to come from there because these cans, by design, will not provide it. The M40 is a bit more musical and will be more forgiving with consumer grade gear. In studio or for technical/critical listening, I'd go with the M50x. For a live stage or personal listening, I'd seriously consider the M40x. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I purchased the audio tecnica mx50. and i loved them with 1 exception. that fake leather ear cups, do these have this material or is it cloth |
Answer: | These are premium cloth. If you are considering buying these... do. I own a fair bit of premium headphones and these are top notch the whole way thru |
Question: | Does the closed back cancel out sound |
Answer: | Yes, well better than open back ones. Ears can get a little sweaty tho depending on how long you wear them. |
Question: | Can you remove the mic on these headsets |
Answer: | No, the mic is Pre set on the left side. |
Question: | How do we wash the cloth on the ear pieces, for the open air headsets? I've had this headset for a few months and it's kind of smells like ears, now |
Answer: | I use the KORE AVIATION Washable Cloth Ear Cover for Aviation, Racing, Gaming, Safety Style Headsets (Sold in Pairs) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017ZL3KS0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The slip over the ear piece and you can pull them off and throw them in the washer. |
Question: | does it work with MacBook Pro without any extra things |
Answer: | It is has dynamic microphone, so it doesn't require power. You will need to adapt XLR to whatever you Mac uses for microphone "in". Most of these items come with 1/4" stereo phone plug for the headset audio. Then some of these sets just have set wires without plugs... so you can ad whatever you need... read carefully when buy this headset. |
Question: | does this headset play back your voice in the headset |
Answer: | It's not so much a function of the headset as it is a function of the device you plug the headset into. If the device you plug the headset into allows you to monitor inputs, then you should be able to hear it in your headset just fine. |
Question: | Are the connections 3.5 mm plugs |
Answer: | No, it uses a special connector. Here are the specs from the manufacturers website: Cable 2 m (6.6') long with 8-pin connector at headset end; 4-pin XLRF-type connector output |
Question: | what's the difference between this one, advertised as bphs1 xf4, and the one advertised as just bphs1? thanks |
Answer: | Detachable cable (BPCB4) terminates in 4-pin XLRF-type connector for use with intercom systems for the XF4. The other one is Detachable cable (BPCB1) terminates in 3-pin XLRM-type connector for microphone and ¼" 3-conductor for headphone |

User questions & answers
Question: | How's the frequency range? I thought I read the specs somewhere, but can't find em now... How do these compare to the $500+ Sennheiser HD models |
Answer: | Comfort wise these do NOT compare, AT labels them as over the ear but that only applies to kids and midgets. These press your ears against your head and will quickly cause discomfort. And in my opinion the 50X version sound very shrill, have very recessed mids, and have soundstage comparable to earbuds, overall unpleasant. Not worth the $100+ price tag. The senheisers are neutral and relaxed, some might desire more treble or bass but their purpose is balance. The sennheisers really shine in the mid-range, vocals really feel natural. The soundstage can very on models but overall great considering they are open back, instrument separation is very good. Overall they are worlds apart and can't really be compared as their purposes are very different. Consider other closed back headphones imo. |
Question: | Is there a reasonably priced and easily installed earcup padding replacement parts kit available? Bad experience with dissolving AT earcups |
Answer: | Yes. I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075M4TRWR/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 last December and they are in fact superior to the OEM pads. Wish I'd purchased them sooner. They turned my A-T headphones into true noise cancelling headphones! The pads are that tight sonicaly to my ears, without causing discomfort or excess ear sweating. Love these pads, and especially my A-T headphones! |
Question: | This model has no battery (replaceable or rechargeable), right? Does it tend to drain the battery of your iPod / iPhone rapidly, to run its processor |
Answer: | Headphones don't drain batteries. They just talked the juice from the headphone amp. I think with the agent of so many consumer grade headphones with noise cancellation or built in amplifiers we have a slew of people completely confused and misinformed with the basics of audio gear. These are the same. people that would have to call a computer tech to plug in computer monitor to a computer. These are the same people that will give a bad review to ga reat product simply because that don't understand the products intended use. |
Question: | How does it compare to the Monster Inspiration Active Noise Canceling Headphones |
Answer: | Not sure about the Inspiration Actives but I have the regular Monster Inspiration over-ear headphones and they are just as capable and impressive as my ath-m50x. The people who are commenting saying the 50x is so much better than the Inspirations are showing true ignorance. The sound stage is actually slightly better on the Inspirations. Monster makes a wide range of headphones not all of which are just Beats clones. For people who own headphones like the Inspirations, the HD558's, JBL S500's... you will be disappointed if you think the ath-m50x will blow you away. |
