Record 8 tracks simultaneously.

Audio interface with 8-in/2-out capability.

Control surface for all major DAW functions.

Built-in high-sensitivity stereo microphones.

Supports SDHC cards up to 32 GB.

Record 8 tracks simultaneously with 16-track playback

Capture audio in any setting, from live music performance, drums with multiple mics to music rehearsals and songwriting, even audio for film and video. The R16's simultaneous 8-track capability makes professionalism easy. Playback up to 16 tracks using its 16/24-bit linear WAV format and 44.1kHz sampling rate.

Audio interface with 8-in/2-out capability

The R16 functions as an audio interface enabling direct input of sound to a computer. Support for high quality 24-bit/96kHz encoding ensures great sound. Eight input channels and two output channels can be used simultaneously. If you use the sampling rate of 44.1kHz, the internal DSP effects of the R16 are also usable on your computer tracks. A dedicated control lets you adjust the mixing balance between the DAW playback sound and the direct sound for monitoring.

Control surface for all major DAW functions

Transport and mixing operations of the DAW software can be controlled using the R16. This gives you greater control and a better feel for mixing. In Mackie Control emulation mode, major DAW applications such as Cubase, Logic, and Sonar are supported.

Sync two R16s for 16 tracks of simultaneous recording

The R16 is the first recorder that incorporates the ability to generate a synchronization signal based on USB data transfer timing*. By connecting two R16 units via USB, you can designate one to function as a USB host and the other as a USB slave, allowing synchronized transport operation. This lets you record on up to 16 tracks simultaneously to competently handle a live performance.

* Synchronization accuracy has a tolerance of about 1 to 2 milliseconds.

Built-in high-sensitivity stereo microphones

When you want to quickly record anything from songwriting ideas to ambient room audio, the R16's built-in set of stereo mics will come in handy. Vocals and acoustic instruments can be captured with excellent clarity.

Supports SDHC cards up to 32 GB

Because the R16 utilizes compact and readily available SD and SDHC memory cards as its recording media, there is no motor that can cause noise as with tape or discs. And you never need to worry about problems caused by external vibrations that can crash hard drives.

Versatile inputs for guitars, mics, and line sources

Its eight combination mic/line input jacks can handle mics or line-level signals. Phantom power is provided on channels 5 and 6 for use with condenser mics, and the Hi-Z switch for channel 1 accommodates a guitar or bass. The R16 is ready for any kind of input source.

Use master track for final mix

A dedicated master track lets you do the final mixdown right on the R16 without a separate master recorder. With sequence play, several projects can be mastered together and played automatically. And you can create playlists for finished songs in any order.

135 DSP effects including guitar amp simulations

The R16 comes preprogrammed with 135 types of digital effects for recording, mixing, and mastering. The insert effect has seven modules with algorithms optimized for guitar, bass and vocals. In addition, two send/return effects are also available, so that you can use up to three effects simultaneously. The R16 also comes with models of 18 different guitar amps such as Fender, Marshall, Vox and Mesa Boogie, and 6 bass amps such as Ampeg, Bassman and Hartke. A compressor and equalizer effect that handles 8 channels simultaneously provides further flexibility.

Tuner and metronome onboard

The R16's built-in tuner is great for quickly tuning an instrument or checking the pitch of vocals. During recording, the metronome provides a click track for your drummer and is also handy for practice. The metronome sound can be sent to the headphones, letting you use a previously recorded backing track on stage during a performance.

Locate function makes editing easy

Set up to 100 marker points and directly locate them whenever you want. Other convenient functions for editing include A-B repeat playback and auto punch-in/out, making it easy to re-track part of the recording. The R16 can be powered from the supplied AC adaptor or six AA/LR6 batteries. A set of batteries will last for about four and a half hours, and because they are standard batteries, changing them is always easy and convenient. The audio interface and control surface functions can also be operated on USB bus power, providing another power option.

Power options

A set of batteries will last for about four and a half hours, and because they are standard batteries, changing them is always easy and convenient. The audio interface and control surface functions can also be operated on USB bus power, providing another power option.

USB 2.0 hi-speed mode for fast file transfer

Because the R16 has a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compatible port, file transfer to a computer is quick and painless. Computer-based tasks such as editing with DAW software, burning your original CDs and importing WAV files are integrated smoothly into your workflow.

USB host capability for connecting USB memory

A USB flash drive or large-capacity external hard disk can be plugged into the USB port of the R16. This lets you quickly distribute a recording to band members after a rehearsal session or make a backup of your recordings even when you're not near a computer.

Bundled with Cubase LE 4

Cubase LE 4 is a powerful music production system that can handle recording, editing, and mixing tasks both for audio and for MIDI. It incorporates the same audio engine as the multi-award winning, higher-level version Cubase 4, and is ideal as an entry into computer-based music production.

User questions & answers

Question: This may be a dumb question but can I record a track, then play it back while recording another track
Answer: Definitely! 16 times/tracks. You can also do 2 tracks simultaneously, and if you have software on your computer, you can send two simultaneous tracks realtime into the software.
Question: Can I make one recording of my band playing several songs in a set, then mix down each song individually for tracks on a CD
Answer: I do not have personal experience with this, however I found a forum post from the Zoom forums that might help you:http://zoomforum.us/viewtopic.php?t=19366Basically the gist is that no, this is not directly possible. But, you can copy the entire recording several times into new projects then trim them to just the portion you want.
Question: Can you record dry (without fx) while monitoring with fx. Such as record guitar dry, while monitoring with an internal Zoom overdrive and reverb
Answer: Yes you can set the effects for monitoring only. I use it for vocals.
Question: Could I link an R16 to an R
Answer: Yes, works well. I am a drummer and use an R24 linked to an R 16. There are a few thing that you will have to work around. Over all it works well

  • Runs on 2 AA batteries and records directly to SD/ SDHC cards up to 32GB
  • Max sound pressure input: 140 dB SPL

User questions & answers

Question: I am a new podcaster. Would someone be kind enough to explain how I would use this to interview someone over the telephone? Would skype be involved?th
Answer: Yes, you will want to use a software like Skype or Google Voice. You can connect the headphone output of your computer to one of the H5 inputs.
Question: If this unit is powered off and a USB cable is connected to a computer does it automatically turn on or will it stay off
Answer: It will automatically turn on with the option to select its use as an interface or storage device...hope this helps.
Question: Is the battery life significantly improved over the H4N? I like my H4N, but it's terrrible on phantom power for battery life
Answer: I can't compare it to the H4n. I got about 8-10 hours on the h5 using alkalines and phantom being on for nearly all of that time. It gives very little warning when the batteries are about to go.
Question: Judging from the pictures it looks to be made of plastic. Is this fragile or robust
Answer: It does not have a plastic feel. If you have ever held an H4n than this will feel somewhat the same. The H5 has a slim, but sturdy feel. It's not the kind of item that would break easily. The thing with the H5 is that it is so cool looking that you're always worrying about getting a single scratch on it. Fortunately, the rubber like exterior seems to handle scratches pretty well. Highly recommend that you get a screen protector as soon as you take it out of the box. I've held both the H5 and H6 and while the H6 feels slightly heavier and more professional with all the knobs, nice looking finish and a great color screen. The H5 feels lighter, has great build quality and you are more likely to use it because it light enough to mount on a rig or carry around... Without the fear of it breaking. I've bumped it on a few corners with my rig and it has held up pretty well. The only thing that feels like plastic are the adapters, but that applies to both the H5 and H6.Hope that helps.

Product description

The Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Channel Portable Recorder for DSLR is the new audio recording solution for on-set filmmakers and videographers using DSLRs. For years, filmmakers have been trying different methods for recording audio - including the use of bulky recorders designed for music and trying to transform the inferior audio technology built-into DSLRs. Now TASCAM has designed an answer that pros and amateurs alike have been waiting for. The DR-60D is a brand new 4-track solid-state recorder utilizing TASCAMs decades of experience. The recorder utilizes high-grade HDDA pre-amps, legendary AD converters, and a durable but lightweight structure and shape. This device will fit snuggly under any camera or into any rig, and record up to 96kHz/24-bit high quality audio straight to SD/SDHC media. Filmmakers have at their disposal two 1/4"-XLR Locking Combo MIC/LINE Inputs, 3.5mm Stereo MIC Input, Camera In, Camera Out, Line Out and Headphone Out. Both 1/4"-XLR Combo Inputs supply +48V Phantom Power and the 3.5mm Input supplies Plug-In Power for microphones requiring a bias voltage. The DR-60D is incredibly easy to use, employing TASCAMs very popular user interface and external controls for every major operation. The body structure, soft-touch keys and dials are designed specifically to help eliminate handling noise. The multiple record modes include, 4-Channel Record, Auto Record and TASCAMs Dual Record "Safety Track" Mode make the DR-60D one of the most versatile recorders on the market. Quality mic preamps are a necessity for quality sound. The DR-60DmkIIs HDDA mic preamplifiers (High Definition Discrete Architecture) employ discrete circuitry and parts, approved after months of evaluation testing by Tascam. The HDDA s circuit achieves a high equivalent input noise (EIN) of -120 dBu for low input noise. The DR-60DmkII mic preamps have been upgraded from their predecessor for up to 64 dB of gain with XLR input jacks for greater cable comp

User questions & answers

Question: Says it does 4 channel recording. It takes 4 individual channels and combines them to 2 stereo channels. Is there a way to maintain 4 separate channe
Answer: Hello, Yes, you can use the Scarlett 18i8 (3rd Gen) with Reaper. Best regards, Jay Lilley // Focusrite Technical Support Engineer
Question: I have a problem with the 60D not working with rechargeable batteries, even after changing the battery settings. Anyone else have this? Know of a fix
Answer: Hello, Yes this is possible in Windows. To expose additional channels from your Scarlett interface to non-ASIO applications (e.g. Skype, Discord, Zoom, Audacity) first click the Focusrite Notifier icon in the taskbar, then click "Expose/Hide Windows Channels": Best Regards, Anthony // Focusrite Support
Question: What's a good USB battery pack to pair with this
Answer: The biggest change is in the headroom. These preamps and converters are cleaner and offer more gain than the 2nd gen. These pres also come equipped with the "Air" mode which adds some high end to model the ISA preamp circuit. The 3rd gen 18i20 also has 16 ADAT I/O channels as opposed to the 2nd gen's 8 channels of ADAT. The removable ears also help with portability for the engineer who doesn't want to keep the interface in a rack. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us (pixelproaudio on Amazon). We can help with support after the sale as well. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio
Question: What's the difference between this and the previous version of the DR60D
Answer: Hi, There have been several improvements made to the 3rd generation range of interfaces. Firstly, all of the inputs on the 18i20 3rd gen feature Air mode, emulating the classic sound of our original transformer-based ISA preamps. Secondly, the 18i20 3rd gen now has the ability to switch between Main and Alternative speakers connected to it using a front panel button. Thirdly, we have added a built-in Talkback function (allowing the engineer to talk directly to the performer), a Loopback function (allowing audio from one application to be recorded into another without connecting cables), Dual ADAT ports for recording 16 channels of audio into the DAW at 96kHz, optical S/PDIF and removable rack ears. Lastly, the specifications of the preamps and conversion have been improved even further - for example, the dynamic range has been increased to 111dB and the gain range is now 56dB instead of 50dB on the 2nd generation. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support

Answer: Different mics pick up differently.
Question: Will this work on a macbook pro 2012 (non retina) on the thunderbolt 2 connector, using an apple usb-c -> thunderbolt2 adaptor and thunderbolt2 cable
Answer: It should but use the cable that's included
Question: Which of the Studio models, if any, can actually drive 250 ohm headphones? The 24c, sadly, did not
Answer: Not sure you are going to find a USB interface that will work those. Those are a very narrow use case style of headphones. I know that are marginally better for listening due to the damping effect. However, for recording and mixing a better choose would be a reference (flat EQ) design like the Sony MDRV6 headphones.
Question: Will this presonus iostation 24c 2x2 usb-c audio interface work with bandlab cakewalk daw
Answer: Yes. It uses standard usb drivers so if it works with your computer, it should work with any up to date software.

User questions & answers

Question: What cable do I need to use this to record my audio technica lp 120 turntable? Thanks
Answer: The LP 120 comes with a USB cable, so you should be able to plug it into the interface. If you don't want to do it that way, you can purchase RCA to 1/4 TRS cables and that will work as well.
Question: When playing keyboard via mainstage 3 through the tac-2, can i also use 2 mic's...and. if so, will adjusting volume on the mic's effect the keyboard
Answer: No there are only two inputs on the tac 2. If you use the instrument jack it disables (not sure if this is the correct word choice, but hopefully you get the idea) the corresponding xlr input in the front.
Question: I only have one thunderbolt port on my mac mini (late 2012) so i will have to chain this device to my thunderbolt hard drives. will that be an issue
Answer: It shouldn't be an issue. This device doesn't allow anything else to b chained to it, but you should be able to chain to a hard-drive if that hard-drive has an available port.
Question: Does it come with a thunderbolt cable
Answer: Yes, it should include a cable.

User questions & answers

Question: Can an acoustic electric guitar be plugged directly into the 1/4" input for clean recording
Answer: The answer is yes but depends on the pre amps of your guitars pickup. Some electric guitars have better and more pickups then acoustic/electric guitars so they will need less gain from the recording device. I would say it would be fine for acoustic/ electric guitar if you have decent pickups. I would recommend recording acoustic guitar with the provided stereo microphone that are exceptionally good as they are made for the the zooms built in preamps. these microphones are condensor so they will be very precise in picking up the natural ambience and accoustic characteristics of your guitar. Hope that helps.
Question: Is phantom power available for the additional 2 channel XLR accessory
Answer: It is not.
Question: Will it create separate audio files from 2 shotgun mics and 2 lav mics so I can then create my own mix in Post? Does it all go into one file
Answer: The 4 XLR inputs create individual mono files from the mics attached. The attached mics, 2 at 90 degrees as shown in picture, create a single stereo file. All 5 of these files can be mixed using an audio package. I did this using 4 mics and the 90 degree onboard to record my nephews band playing a gig. I remixed the audio using those files and then laid that over the video track of same song. worked beautifully.
Question: Does the rotary gain control go to
Answer: Turn it up to 10 and rip the knob off!!! =11
