Answer:	There are 2 probes.The detachable wire probe (the wire measures 42 inches and the probe itself is about 6.3 inches), and a tripod. It is a good idea if you want to use probe in oven. The main probe measures about 4.4 inches. It comes with a battery already in place and easily changed. The unit turns on as soon as the main probe is opened or the wired probe is inserted and auto turns off in 10 mins. If the wire is plugged in it will only read from the wired probe. The accuracy seems spot on with other meat thermometers I compared it to. It is alsoaccurate from freezing to boiling temperatures.
