13 best dynamic microphones with cables
Dynamic microphones with cables are a common type of microphones used in various audio applications, particularly in the realm of musical instruments and live sound. Here's some information related to these products:
Multipurpose Design: Dynamic microphones with cables are versatile and suitable for a variety of uses. They are often employed for live performances, recording instruments, and even podcasting or broadcasting.
Dynamic Microphone Technology: Dynamic microphones operate on electromagnetic induction. They have a simple design consisting of a diaphragm attached to a coil of wire, placed within the magnetic field of a magnet. When sound waves hit the diaphragm, it moves, causing the coil to move within the magnetic field, thus generating an electrical current. This design is robust and can handle high sound pressure levels, making dynamic microphones suitable for loud sound sources like guitar amplifiers and drums.
Durability: Dynamic microphones are known for their durability and resilience. They can withstand rough handling and are less sensitive to environmental conditions compared to some other microphone types, such as condenser microphones.
Cables: Dynamic microphones typically come with cables for connecting them to audio interfaces, mixers, or other sound equipment. The cables are essential for transmitting the electrical signals generated by the microphone to the recording or amplification equipment.
Polar Patterns: Dynamic microphones often have cardioid polar patterns, meaning they are most sensitive to sound coming from the front and less sensitive to sounds coming from the sides or rear. This helps in isolating the sound source and minimizing unwanted background noise.
Applications: Dynamic microphones are commonly used for miking guitar amplifiers, snare drums, toms, and other loud instruments in live sound settings. They are also popular for recording electric guitars and for vocals in live performances.
Popular Models: There are various dynamic microphones available in the market, each with its specific features. Some well-known models include the Shure SM57 and SM58, the Sennheiser e906, and the Audio-Technica ATR2100.
When using dynamic microphones with cables, it's essential to ensure compatibility with the equipment you're using and follow proper cable management practices to prevent signal interference and degradation. Always refer to the product documentation for specific instructions and guidelines provided by the microphone manufacturer.

With XLR and USB outputs, the Q2U is the first choice for home/studio and mobile recording, as well as stage performance. The Q2U is simple to setup and outshines microphones that cost more than twice the price. It comes with a mic clip, desktop tripod stand with extension piece, windscreen, XLR cable and USB cable. . . A package with everything you need to start recording right out of the box.
- Best of both worlds: professional handheld dynamic microphone with USB digital output for connecting to a computer and XLR analog output for connecting to a mixer, audio interface or portable PA system

It also reduces possible feedback in live performance settings
- Hear the mix: onboard 1/8" (3. 5mm) headphone jack allows for zero-latency monitoring, so you can hear yourself without any delay or echo, plus a mix of your computer audio playback. Solid, die-cast construction with heavy gauge mesh grille

User questions & answers
Question: | I have two questions: 1. would this microphone work well for recording audio books? 2. would it work w/ a macbook air laptop |
Answer: | Yes that should work well with your audiobooks. As for the Mac laptop I don’t see why not it offers clear recordings for what I use it for. |
Question: | I need something that is compatible with both a Mac and an iPhone/iPad. Will this work with either or both |
Answer: | This is an old question but has yet to be answered completely so here goes. Yes, this microphone will work through USB with the macOS, Windows OS, most versions of Linux (that I know of), and will work with iOS (iPhone/iPad) devices that can use Apple's camera connection kit (30-pin or Lightning ports) as well as newer ones that use USB-C |
Question: | How well does the microphone pick up a talking level voice from a short distance, say 2 feet |
Answer: | Unfortunately no. This Is a Dynamic mike and it is designed for the speaker to be a few inches away 1-4 at best. What you really need is a Boom mike. If the point is to have people listen to you need the correct mike. For what you want this mike is not for you. |
Question: | Would this microphone be a good fit for a multi host podcast? Each host having one of these mics |
Answer: | this is not a omni direction mic where you put it in the middle and you can record everyone, this is a direct to your mouth, pointed right at your face mic (to put it in simplest terms.) if you want a multi host mic where you can set it on the table and everyone can talk "at it" then look for the Yeti mic. . |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this amplify the voice if it is not plugged into an amp. I was hoping to be able to plug into an iTouch or laptop |
Answer: | It does not need a battery, but you do need to connect it to an amplifier that has a mic XLR connection. Mostly this would be a separate pre-amp which is then connected to a larger console or amplifier system, though some systems combines both. |
Question: | do u need a wire to use this |
Answer: | If the official Shure part number SM58-CN is selected, the "CN" means a 25' XLR microphone cable will be included. Other variants include SM58S which is microphone with an on/off switch, SM58-LC which is microphone only with no cable. |
Question: | Would this be okay for a 6 yr old? She loves singing and wants a microphone for her birthday |
Answer: | There are too many questions to be answered here. Are your speakers powered or non-active? How many mics are you running? Any other systems involved, like instruments, computers, ipods etc? Are you looking for built in EFX? Although my first amp was a Pyle 3000W for $100 and I used a cheap Behringer 4 bus mixer, I have moved on from that purchase. Best advise I can give someone, is to buy a book or video on live sound and mixing, it will save you time, heartaches and maybe even money. |
Question: | does it work with a computer |
Answer: | I'd like to correct a statement that's been made about the SM-58, which is the most popular, universal "performer's mic," found in every band that can afford it and serving as the White House microphone for heads of state. It's a "dynamic" rather than a "condenser mic," which means it's durable, tough, long-lasting, made to take abuse. But it's not the preferred microphone in the recording studio, which is where the more sensitive, nuanced condenser microphone shines (but don't toss it in a bag and "take it on the road"). Condenser mics require more power than dynamic mics, and that power is called "phantom power," which is found in most mixing boards and in many amps--and in this handy adapter. But you do NOT require Phantom Power for an XLR connection: you require it for a CONDENSER MIC. And since the popular SM58 is a DYNAMIC MIC, the Phantom Power is wasted, a needless add-on. If you want to convert your XLR to USB (or to a phone plug), there are many adapters and cables for $10 that will do the trick You certainly don't need to invest a hundred in the pictured adapter--that's sheer "overkill. It's a bit of a mystery why sellers are showing the SM58 with a Phantom-Powered Adapter for condenser mics. You may be wasting $100 on one or the other of these incompatible devices. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you connect multiple mv7 mics to the same computer via usb |
Answer: | It’s maye a ruler and a half. If you purchase it make sure you apply the resin to the bow otherwise you will assume it doesn’t work 😂 my 4 year old loves it |
Question: | Has anyone used this mic with the rode psa1 microphone boom - mainly, is the mic heavy enough |
Answer: | It's very delicate, but it's a real violin. You could start with the Suzuki method and see if the 5 year old likes to play it. If so, you can decide to rent or buy a violin that fits the size of the child as she grows. The price is good as a starter instrument, and the pink color is adorable. |
Question: | Being that this is a condenser mic, how much background noise does it pick up |
Answer: | This is a small child size violin (3-5 years old). It can only be used with formal violin instruction by a violin teacher. The child can play the strings with the bow but it is not easy to play any tune without violin lessons. |
Question: | why is this using micro usb? does this company know about USB type C |
Answer: | This is a real violin perfect size for a 4-5 year old. My granddaughter like many girls, likes pink. She might take Suzuki lessons on it. |

Question: | Do I have to buy your recorder to use the mic and headphones |
Answer: | You can take a bluetooth stream into a Heos speaker and have it play in multiple rooms. |
Question: | Are these mics better than the audio techinca |
Answer: | I bought the soundbar/sub combo and added.two Heos 3 speakers ang two Heos 1 speakers. It sucked until I learned how to use the two apps, and 2.4G WiFi was a joke. But I now have it on a 5G NetGear WAP and I have the speakers all over the house. It works! It took some time to get everything dialed in, but if I can do it anyone can. Firmware updates required, and they are automatic now. You can do it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between the sm58 and the pga58? I am a moble dj and karaoke host. I have customers that are really particular about the sound |
Answer: | The PGA58 is the cheap version of the SM58. The SM58 will sound a little better. If you're not super sensitive to sound then the PGA58 will likely work just fine. If I were a DJ I would do the SM58 and then just have a mixer to turn the mic off if need be. PGA58 has an ON/OFF switch on it so it can be turned off by accident. But, some folks want a power switch on the mic. |
Question: | Does this mic have an internal shock mount |
Answer: | All mics have some internal shock mount. But depending on your use, it may not be adequate. This mic is average noise for what is considered a handheld mic. |
Question: | Do i need xlr male to female or male to male |
Answer: | The microphone uses a standard XLR and has three prongs. If you order a cord with the microphone they will give you a choice of XLR or 1/4", this choice pertains to the end that does not plug into the microphone. Personnaly I selected the 1/4" so I could plug it into my amplifier (my amp has two inputs) while practicing. The 1/4" will also plug into our group's PA system becasue the PA has a plug that accepts either 1/4" or XLR. Saying all that, you need a cord with a female XLR to plug into the microphone's male XLR and the other end will be either a male 1/4" or male XLR to plug into whatever you are using to amplify your voice. |
Question: | Can you plug in this mic to an amp? My previous mic plug had a long silver end on it but this one doesn't have one |
Answer: | The cable that comes with it is XLR to XLR, so no, it won't plug into the amp without a 1/4" connector. Cable is not permanently attached to the mic, and can be changed to an XLR TO 1/4" type cable. The mic is incredible and worth every penny. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Mounting screws size |
Answer: | 8"x8" x 60" |
Question: | does it come with the metal piece to connect it to a mic stand |
Answer: | Probably not. The HEOS bar has its own DSP to decode the audio into left, right and center channels. You have no way to tell the bar to just process center channels. If you send it a center channel signal from an AVR then it may or may not process that into the center channel. It would be an expensive center channel anyway so I would look for a simpler solution. |

Answer: | It does not need a battery, but you do need to connect it to an amplifier that has a mic XLR connection. Mostly this would be a separate pre-amp which is then connected to a larger console or amplifier system, though some systems combines both. |
Question: | How long is the cable that I can get with this mic |
Answer: | If the official Shure part number SM58-CN is selected, the "CN" means a 25' XLR microphone cable will be included. Other variants include SM58S which is microphone with an on/off switch, SM58-LC which is microphone only with no cable. |
Question: | What amplifier or mixer [ $20- $50 ] should i buy which is compatible with sm58 ? need suggestion |
Answer: | While there are some modest guitar amplifiers in your price range, systems for amplifying vocals tend to be more expensive. You'd be looking for a "Public Address" or "PA" system, with some compact setups starting in the $100 range. Brands like Samson, Behringer, Alesis, and Roland have some models at the lower end of the price spectrum. |
Question: | Feel free to laugh a bit and excuse my ignorance. I am starting voice lessons does this microphone only work with a computer? Or can I hook it up to something different? Ok no more laughing. Thank You |
Answer: | I'd like to correct a statement that's been made about the SM-58, which is the most popular, universal "performer's mic," found in every band that can afford it and serving as the White House microphone for heads of state. |

Question: | Does it come with a mic stand or shock mount to hold it or do I need to buy my own? Also If I need my own what do you suggest |
Answer: | This microphone has it's own mount, that provides slight separation from any vibration noise. There is no elastic suspension "shock mount" available for this unit - but is a very rugged mic that can take a beating. Any decent stand will do... but because the SM7B is fairly heavy, I'd advise if your going to hang it off a boom stand, I'd find a sturdy one with a decent counter weight. I use an Atlas Sound MS20E Heavy Duty Microphone Stand or the On Stage SMS7650 Hex-Base Studio Boom Microphone Stand. |
Question: | Do you need a mixamp/preamp/mixer/audio interface to use this microphone on a PC or is it optional |
Answer: | The question is specifically asking about using this mic with a PC, and although it's a 6 year old question, it still needs to be flooded with correct answers to hide the bad one inexplicably found at the top, even though its Yes:No helpfulness ratio is atrocious and is neither the newest nor the oldest answer. This absolutely needs an interface to be used with a PC. A lot of these answers are going on about the preamp, but regardless of how you get power to this thing--whether it be preamps onboard your interface or whatnot--you will absolutely need some sort of interface to, well, interface with your computer. Whether it be USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, or PCIe, you will 1000% need a way to get the signal into your PC. That aside, you will definitely want good way to drive it given its output level. |
Question: | Is this the mic Marc Maron uses on the show for podcasting |
Answer: | Per Marc Maron on a mic website "In the garage I use two Shure SM7s into a Samson MDR6 mixer into Garage Band on my mac. On the road I use a Zoom H4n and two Blue Encore 100 mics." However, the SM7B is a great broadcast mic. I use it for studio vocals. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How does the shure sm7b compare to the blue yeti pro |
Answer: | I use the Shure SM7b for all of my voiceover and singing recording. The Blue Yeti Pro doesn't even place when compared in all honestly. The Blue Yeti Pro has a WAY higher noise floor, and sounds muddy and slightly muffled when comparing the two back to back. And I see a lot of people saying, "A cloudlifter won't help," and I can say from first-hand experience, that this isn't true. Personally I recommend picking up a Fethead, or an sE Electronics DM1, however, all three do the same thing, but some cost more than others, (I'm using the DM1, and I've been very happy with my purchase.) Originally I was using a Focusrite Scarlet Solo, 2nd Gen, and my audio was clean. Any mic activators helps bring this mic up to great levels without getting any pre-amp noise. I've since upgraded to an Audient ID4, and my audio is super clean. I don't get any noise from the mic, pre-amp, or the interface. That being said, the SM7b is more expensive, but even despite this, I definitely recommend the SM7b over Blue Yeti Pro any day. |

Question: | Are you able to use this as a usb mic / be able to put this into your macbook pro |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it come with a stand or an XLR cable |
Answer: | Depends, what are you recording? Original yeti is large and a bit more versatile, you can record in 4 different audio direction, i.e omnidirectional, cardioid, bidirectional, and stereo making it ideal for recording YouTube videos, podcasts, large groups, or instrumentals. Yeti nano has 2 audio recording options , Omni and bidirectional, so made more for podcasts and YouTube videos. It’s also smaller. If you want to check out the nano I did a unboxing of the gold yeti nano, search on YouTube Julian Lonzoe yeti nano. It looks pretty awesome. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is a pop filter recommended |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Are returns/refunds available for this microphone |
Answer: | This would need to be plugged into a microphone input....your computer likely doesn't have one built in. You can get a USB interface to plug this mic into, then USB into your computer. Or you could just get a USB microphone and a pair of headphones. This is an awesome package for it's price, but it will need to go into a mic input to work. |
Question: | It refuses to turn on with my macbook pro. i have changed cables and ports. the previous model has no problems. any ideas |
Answer: | You do not have to buy a recorder to use the mic and headphones. |
Question: | It keeps having this constant annoying audio humming noise in the background when I plug my handphones into the mic, or play it back |
Answer: | Depends on which audio-technica mic. These ZDM1 microphones sound great in the broadcast dynamic category. They can make a good run at something that sells for $400+. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If i get the xlr to usb for my computer, do i need anything else to record and mix? cables? software |
Answer: | Hi, you have to connect this unit to your receiver using 1/4" or XLR cable. Thank you. |
Question: | can it be attached to a video camera with a cable |
Answer: | The main thing is that his mic is high impedance like a guitar and should be used with instrument inputs with the included cable with th 1/4 phone plug. If you use a typical cable with x!r on both ends into a microphone input which is low impedance, you get a low hum/buzz depending on your digital interface or preamp. Will also work with a guitar amp unlike low impedance mic. |
Question: | What is the difference in this SM57-LC and the SM57? I can't seem to find what the LC is about |
Answer: | It is packaged with a XLR to 1/4 " cable. Most sound systems will need an XLR male to XLR female commonly referred to as an "XLR cable". The supplied cable can be used with USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt interfaces that have 1/4" inputs or a combo connector. So, yes if you are plugging it into an interface. |
Question: | How is it with recording vocals |
Answer: | It should work fine for her. It also comes with 15 ft. XLR-F to 1/4" male microphone cable. So you would need to hook into a 1/4" input for microphone. |
