12 best usb dynamic microphones
USB dynamic microphones are a type of microphone designed for capturing audio in a wide range of applications, from recording vocals and musical instruments to podcasting and voiceovers. These microphones are known for their simplicity, durability, and ease of use. Here's what you need to know about USB dynamic microphones:
Dynamic Microphone Basics: USB dynamic microphones are a subset of dynamic microphones, which are known for their robust construction and ability to handle high sound pressure levels. Dynamic microphones are often used for live sound reinforcement and studio recording due to their durability and versatility.
USB Connectivity: Unlike traditional dynamic microphones that require an XLR cable and an audio interface to connect to a computer, USB dynamic microphones have a built-in USB interface. This allows them to be directly connected to a computer or other USB-enabled devices without the need for additional equipment.
Plug-and-Play: USB dynamic microphones are typically "plug-and-play," meaning they are easy to set up and use. You can simply connect the microphone to your computer's USB port, and it will be recognized as an audio input device without the need for driver installation.
Recording Applications: USB dynamic microphones are commonly used for a variety of recording applications, including podcasting, voiceovers, gaming streams, YouTube videos, and home studio recording. They provide a straightforward solution for capturing high-quality audio directly to a computer.
Durability: Dynamic microphones, including USB dynamic models, are known for their durability and resistance to handling noise and physical shocks. This makes them suitable for on-the-road use and live performances.
Cardioid Pickup Pattern: Many USB dynamic microphones feature a cardioid pickup pattern, which means they primarily capture sound from the front and reject noise from the sides and rear. This pattern is ideal for isolating the sound source and minimizing background noise.
Audio Quality: USB dynamic microphones can provide excellent audio quality for various applications. While they may not offer the same level of detail and sensitivity as condenser microphones, they excel at capturing clear and natural-sounding audio with good dynamic range.
Affordability: USB dynamic microphones are available at various price points, making them an accessible option for beginners and professionals alike. The price may vary based on brand, features, and build quality.
Accessories: Depending on the model, USB dynamic microphones may come with accessories such as a desktop stand, shock mount, pop filter, or carrying case. These accessories can enhance your recording experience.
Compatibility: USB dynamic microphones are compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows and macOS. They can be used with popular audio recording and editing software for customization and post-processing of audio recordings.
In summary, USB dynamic microphones are versatile, user-friendly, and durable audio recording solutions that are well-suited for a variety of purposes, from podcasting and content creation to studio recording and live performances. Their USB connectivity simplifies the recording process, making them a popular choice among both beginners and experienced audio professionals.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you connect multiple mv7 mics to the same computer via usb |
Answer: | It’s maye a ruler and a half. If you purchase it make sure you apply the resin to the bow otherwise you will assume it doesn’t work 😂 my 4 year old loves it |
Question: | Has anyone used this mic with the rode psa1 microphone boom - mainly, is the mic heavy enough |
Answer: | It's very delicate, but it's a real violin. You could start with the Suzuki method and see if the 5 year old likes to play it. If so, you can decide to rent or buy a violin that fits the size of the child as she grows. The price is good as a starter instrument, and the pink color is adorable. |
Question: | Being that this is a condenser mic, how much background noise does it pick up |
Answer: | This is a small child size violin (3-5 years old). It can only be used with formal violin instruction by a violin teacher. The child can play the strings with the bow but it is not easy to play any tune without violin lessons. |
Question: | why is this using micro usb? does this company know about USB type C |
Answer: | This is a real violin perfect size for a 4-5 year old. My granddaughter like many girls, likes pink. She might take Suzuki lessons on it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have two questions: 1. would this microphone work well for recording audio books? 2. would it work w/ a macbook air laptop |
Answer: | Yes that should work well with your audiobooks. As for the Mac laptop I don’t see why not it offers clear recordings for what I use it for. |
Question: | I need something that is compatible with both a Mac and an iPhone/iPad. Will this work with either or both |
Answer: | This is an old question but has yet to be answered completely so here goes. Yes, this microphone will work through USB with the macOS, Windows OS, most versions of Linux (that I know of), and will work with iOS (iPhone/iPad) devices that can use Apple's camera connection kit (30-pin or Lightning ports) as well as newer ones that use USB-C |
Question: | How well does the microphone pick up a talking level voice from a short distance, say 2 feet |
Answer: | Unfortunately no. This Is a Dynamic mike and it is designed for the speaker to be a few inches away 1-4 at best. What you really need is a Boom mike. If the point is to have people listen to you need the correct mike. For what you want this mike is not for you. |
Question: | Would this microphone be a good fit for a multi host podcast? Each host having one of these mics |
Answer: | this is not a omni direction mic where you put it in the middle and you can record everyone, this is a direct to your mouth, pointed right at your face mic (to put it in simplest terms.) if you want a multi host mic where you can set it on the table and everyone can talk "at it" then look for the Yeti mic. . |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is a pop filter recommended |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Are returns/refunds available for this microphone |
Answer: | This would need to be plugged into a microphone input....your computer likely doesn't have one built in. You can get a USB interface to plug this mic into, then USB into your computer. Or you could just get a USB microphone and a pair of headphones. This is an awesome package for it's price, but it will need to go into a mic input to work. |
Question: | It refuses to turn on with my macbook pro. i have changed cables and ports. the previous model has no problems. any ideas |
Answer: | You do not have to buy a recorder to use the mic and headphones. |
Question: | It keeps having this constant annoying audio humming noise in the background when I plug my handphones into the mic, or play it back |
Answer: | Depends on which audio-technica mic. These ZDM1 microphones sound great in the broadcast dynamic category. They can make a good run at something that sells for $400+. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this mic be used to sing vocals in Rock Band 4 on Xbox One |
Answer: | Rode NT-USB USB Microphone - more of a low-end voice over mic, a little more expensive, no issues, sounds very good (I use it for video narration). Probably not as good for Rock Band. I was very excited by the Audio-Technica AT2005USB as I like the "form factor" (much more like all of the normal handheld mic's we have, Shure SM58 type) and that it could also use an xlr cable. When I returned the mic, I was far from the only person experiencing issues with it on usb - perhaps there this issue has been resolved. As I said before, when it worked it sounded great. |
Question: | Does this work well for gaming chat? I use Mumble w/ voice activation. Blue Snowball picks up everything including mouse clicks. Would this be better |
Answer: | This mic is highly directional. Therefore it does not pick up as much extraneous sound (i.e. mouse clicks, fan noises, etc). The downside is that you must speak right into it. I work about five inches away form it and find it a bit quieter than my Blue Yeti. Sound quality is very good. |
Question: | Will this work good for podcasting |
Answer: | This is a GREAT mic for podcasting! Many of the top podcastors use and recommend the ATR 2100, but they all say that the AT 2005 looks better. You can just plug it into your computer and use free audio software to record your podcast episodes. It really is that simple to get great sounding audio. The construction is very solid. I have used mine in the heat and humidity of West Africa for almost a year now with no complaints. Mike Phillips, a very reputable expert on microphones, has some great things to say about this mic as well. It is a podcastors must have! |
Question: | Anyone happen to know the difference between this mic and the ATR |
Answer: | This is the big brother. I have both and they are hard to tell apart. The sound it reproduces is a slightly different field than ATR2100. Price would be the discerning factor in a buy, for me. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is the AT2020PLUS different from the regular AT |
Answer: | I have both. The AT2020 was great for general recording purposes, but for singing or voiceover I do LOVE the monitor jack and the slider. The slider will let you balance what comes into your monitor (your earbuds, headphones, whatever you plug in to the jack) so you can choose how much of the mic versus the PC comes into your ears. This gets important because if you rely on the PC to feed your voice back to you, there is a slight signal delay that can get awkward. You don't have to use the monitor, and it doesn't affect the act of recording. Hope that helps! |
Question: | Does this work with windows 10? I need someone who actually uses it on win10 machine, not someone selling them. I have at2020 not working w/ win |
Answer: | Yes, I'm running Windows 10 with Audacity recording software. By the way, with this one-directional mic, it's very important to be speaking INTO THE BLUE LIGHT behind the screen. That's the one-directional "sweet spot." And, you didn't ask, but I record (as do most of my professional colleagues now stuck at home) into the free software "Audacity." Some have found that If you plug in the mic AFTER you load Audacity, it may not recognize AT2020+ as a microphone choice, and while it may still record, the results will be unsatisfactory. If or when that happens, just restart Audacity AFTER plugging the USB into your computer and click on the AT2020+ option. |
Question: | Is this a one-directional mic? I was told that a one-directional mic is best for recording podcasts |

Question: | is it possible to listen to a downloaded .mp3 instrumental (NOT instrument) on my PC and hear that while i record over it using this mic |
Answer: | Yes, using the monitor dial on mic itself, toggling between PC sound and your own, or setting accordingly until balance suites you. (using plugged in headphones into mic) |

User questions & answers
Question: | anyone use this for recording singing vocals? thanks |
Answer: | Not this one specifically, but I have regularly used large diaphragm DYNAMIC mics much like this one (actually a Shure SM7b) and they work fine on vocals. Its a fairly flat frequency response with a slight bump in the upper midrange, and the proximity effect helps beef up thin sounding vocals. So yes, a quote-unquote "broadcast mic" can work just as well for singing as for spoken word. Don't let anyone tell you different. |
Question: | Does this work with behringer xenyx x1204usb? or additional equipments are required |
Answer: | It works. You just need a XLR mic cable and you are good to go (it is not included). |
Question: | Is it with a USB attachement |
Answer: | Here's short run down I just noticed today. I'm in the market for a Rode Mic so I did some digging. Rode NT-USB USB ($169)Rode PodCaster USB Dynamic Microphone (USB $230)Rode ProCaster Broadcast Dynamic Vocal Microphone XLR ($230)Rode BroadCaster Studio Condenser Microphone XLR ($400)Fist two are USB. Last two are XLR. |
Question: | Can this be placed on the center of a small table and used by two or three speakers (for a podcast |
Answer: | As some of the others have mentioned, this mic is not what you are looking for but the Blue Yeti is perfect for your needs. The internet is filled with mixed reviews about the Blue Yeti but as someone who has nearly 30 years of experience as an audio engineer, I can tell you that it's a fabulous mic, especially for your particular application. I currently record multi-person podcasts daily using the Yeti in omni mode while hanging overhead for multiple speakers/conversational situations, a Rode Podcaster as the daily driver for one of the on-air personalities and a Shure SM7B for another on-air personality and I'm extremely happy with the performance of all three mics. I also use an Audio Technica AT2020 sometimes when we have an additional guest in the studio. One thing to keep in mind - you will need to understand your workstation and have a plan on how to set up your gear, as the Yeti is a USB mic (unless you get the pro model which takes both XLR and USB) while the AT2020 is an XLR and so on... you get the idea. With these two different formats I often see people purchasing both kinds without first figuring out how they are going to get all these mics to play nicely with one another. Do your homework on how you're going to hook everything up and you should be just fine. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hey, I have a behringer audio interface with this microphone - I get audio but the blue light isn't on (on the mic). Is this a problem or is it fine |
Answer: | I think u meant can u use it as a regular mic without computer. The answer is not without a soundcard to plug it into I believe. |
Question: | Is this one the xlr version of this mic? i want to use it on a mackie ony blackjack |

Question: | Are you able to use this as a usb mic / be able to put this into your macbook pro |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it come with a stand or an XLR cable |
Answer: | Depends, what are you recording? Original yeti is large and a bit more versatile, you can record in 4 different audio direction, i.e omnidirectional, cardioid, bidirectional, and stereo making it ideal for recording YouTube videos, podcasts, large groups, or instrumentals. Yeti nano has 2 audio recording options , Omni and bidirectional, so made more for podcasts and YouTube videos. It’s also smaller. If you want to check out the nano I did a unboxing of the gold yeti nano, search on YouTube Julian Lonzoe yeti nano. It looks pretty awesome. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used with an iPhone 11 to record a podcast interview |
Answer: | YES IT CAN. The seller is incorrect in saying that it will only work with Windows or Mac. It works with any phone with USB-OTG standard. This includes the Samsung S20 (my phone) and the iPhone11 (my daughter's phone) To use with an iPhone you have to have a Lightning->USB adapter, since the included cables can only connect to USB A or C ports. I have personally verified this. There are multiple search results that describe the same process. (Try "ATR2100X-USB iphone" ) |
Product description
The NT-USB is a highly versatile side-address microphone that is ideal for recording singing and musical performances in addition to spoken applications such as podcasting and voice-over. It is fully compatible with all mainstream recording applications on both Windows and Mac OS based computers, as well as the Apple iPad using Rode Rec, Garage Band, or any other recording app that accepts an external microphone. Use on the Apple iPad requires a suitable USB connection adaptor, such as the Apple Camera Connection Kit. The body of the NT-USB features a zero-latency stereo headphone monitoring (3.5mm) jack, which allows you to monitor the microphone input in real-time, along with dials to adjust the monitoring level and mix between the computer/iPad audio and the microphone input. A premium pop-filter is included, which fits onto the base of the mic, positioning the filter the ideal distance from the capsule to minimize plosives (hard 'B', 'T' or 'P' sounds that produce a harsh sound) during singing or speech. Also provided is a high-quality stand mount with industry standard 3/8" thread, desktop tripod stand that allows the NT-USB to sit at a comfortable height on a tabletop, and a pouch for storage of the microphone when not in use. Compatible with both Windows and Mac computers, as well as the Apple iPad via the USB camera connection kit (available directly from Apple) Gain setting: When the gain is set too high, the microphone will be too sensitive and can pick up room noise that can even be heard as a hiss. When the gain is set too low, the microphone will be barely audible. Compatible with the SMR shockmount & WS2 foam windshield.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this screw on to a microphone stand? or do I need to buy a shockmount? if so, which one |
Answer: | This should screw on to any standard mic stand. I purchased this folding mic boom arm with my Rode and it works with no problem. "NEEWER Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand" You shouldn't need a shock mount unless you want one. |
Question: | Is the rode compatible with Mixcraft? Also is there a delay when you are monitoring your mic input |
Answer: | In Windows 10 this becomes an audio input device and it has worked with several applications I use - Zoom, Camtasia, Techsmith Relay, Audacity, and a few others. I use it almost daily. |
Question: | Will Rode provide a warranty from this seller |
Answer: | We are a RODE USA authorized dealer, so if you buy from will get the RODE warranty. |
Question: | Excuse me. Do the Rode NT-USB USB include the microphone windshield |
Answer: | Hello, Yes it does come with the pop shield that is made specifically for the NT-USB. It works great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the diffrence between re320 and re |
Answer: | I am not sure. Maybe you can look on YouTube. |
Question: | Does it need phantom |
Answer: | No it does not require phantom power. |
Question: | Is this usa made |
Answer: | RE20's are all USA made - still. |
Question: | Does this mic use a usb |
Answer: | Do *not* get a DAC for this or any mic. It won't work for you. A DAC *only* converts a digital source to analog. You need to convert analog to digital as well. This means you need an *audio interface*, such as the RME Babyface on PC, or an Apogee Duo on a Mac, or a UAD Apollo Twin on either one. The Audient iD4 is a good budget interface and uses their famous mic pre; some people swear by the Scarlett series and the SSL2+. Research those and not a DAC except for listening passively to other people's music with headphones and your phone, or on speakers through your stereo/HT system. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It says it's 11 inches. Is that true |
Answer: | The body of the mic is about 9-inches, but the USB cable connects at the end and realistically you would need 11 inches of clearance with that cable sticking out. |
Question: | Can you use this as an external mic with an iPhone |
Answer: | Not sure. On my IPhone 10 I use a Rode lapel mic, not the Podcaster. The Podcaster has a USB output cord as standard. Perhaps if there’s such a thing as a thunderbolt to USB adapter? |
Question: | How much background noise does the mic pick up? Would it pick up sounds from my mouse & mechanical keyboard |
Answer: | Very little. I use a boom arm with a shock mount. Orient the microphone so it isn't aimed toward your mouse or keyboard. I.e., tilt it up, and position it near your mouth. I also have my keyboard on a thin pad to minimize sounds being transmitted from the keyboard to the table underneath. |
Question: | I got the mic & changed the preferences (MAC) to use the Podcaster but cannot get any sound from the mic.Is there a trick? Is this a dud |
Answer: | I just ordered the Podcaster Pro. I want to record into a laptop. I hooked up the USB cord from the Podcaster Pro into the laptop, but when i hit record on the laptop, all i get is the audio from the build in laptop mic. |

Rode Podcaster
The RØDE Podcaster is a dynamic, end-address USB microphone that combines broadcast-quality audio with the simplicity of USB connectivity, allowing recording direct to a computer without the need for an additional digital interface. Including an audiophile quality 18-bit resolution, 48kHz sampling A/D converter, the Podcaster processes all of the analogue-to-digital conversion internally, bypassing the computer's lower quality on-board sound controller altogether.
A headphone output on the microphone body provides zero-latency monitoring, so the user can hear exactly what is being recorded, free of delay or echo. The Podcaster features an internal pop filter, designed to minimise plosives sounds that can overload the microphone capsule and distort the audio output. It is fully compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS X computers, as well as several Linux distributions. The microphone is bus powered and features a status LED to indicate operation.
The Podcaster is ideal for podcasting, vodcasting, YouTube videos, voice recognition software, corporate videos and any production application that requires a simple yet professional voice-over microphone. It is also a convenient demo microphone for musicians and songwriters that prefer the convenience of a USB microphone but don't want to compromise sound quality.
It can also be used as an iPad microphone for the Apple iPad (in conjunction with the iPad Camera Connection Kit and a powered USB hub) to provide high quality recording to various iPad audio applications such as Garageband. The Podcaster includes a sturdy RM2 microphone ring mount. For professional applications the optional PSM1 shock mount and PSA1 boom arm are highly recommended. The RØDE Podcaster USB microphone is designed and made in Australia, and covered by RØDE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty (after registration).
The RØDE Podcaster Package Includes:
- RØDE Podcaster USB Broadcast Microphone.
- RØDE RM2 Ring-Mount Microphone Stand.
- USB Cable (3 meter/10 feet).
Designed Specifically with Podcasting in Mind
The Podcaster has been designed for any application where recorded voice clarity and direct digital connection is demanded. Designed with Podcasting as a main use, this revolutionary microphone is also perfect for adding voice-overs while editing digital video, and for the ‘on location’ reporter who can quickly record on a laptop and then simply e-mail this to the studio for instant broadcast. It is also a convenient demo microphone for musicians and songwriters that prefer the convenience of a USB microphone but don't want to compromise sound quality.
Easy to Use and Windows/Mac Compatible
Just plug in the Podcaster with the supplied USB cable, launch your recording or video editing program and begin. It is that simple! The Podcaster is fully compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS X computers, as well as several Linux distributions. The microphone is bus powered and features a status LED to indicate operation.
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The Podcaster has a Cardioid polar pattern, meaning the microphone picks up audio from the front and sides and rejects audio from the rear. Therefore, a tight cardioid pattern represents superior off-axis sound rejection.
