12 best interface audios

"Interface audio" typically refers to an audio interface, a crucial component in recording and music production setups. Audio interfaces are used to connect musical instruments, microphones, and other audio equipment to a computer or recording device. Here's what you need to know about audio interfaces in the context of preamps, accessories, microphones, and musical instruments:

  1. Purpose: An audio interface serves as a bridge between analog audio sources, such as microphones and musical instruments, and digital recording software on a computer. It converts analog signals into digital data that can be processed and recorded digitally.

  2. Preamps: Many audio interfaces come equipped with microphone preamps. These preamps boost the low-level microphone signals to a level suitable for recording. High-quality preamps are essential for capturing clean and professional audio recordings.

  3. Connection Options: Audio interfaces offer various connectivity options, including USB, Thunderbolt, FireWire, and PCIe. USB interfaces are the most common and widely used, offering compatibility with a wide range of computers.

  4. Input and Output Channels: The number of input and output channels on an audio interface varies. Basic models may have a single input and output, while more advanced ones can have multiple inputs and outputs, allowing for complex recording setups.

  5. Sample Rate and Bit Depth: Audio interfaces support different sample rates and bit depths, which determine the quality of audio recordings. Higher sample rates and bit depths result in higher audio quality but require more storage space.

  6. Phantom Power: Many audio interfaces provide phantom power to condenser microphones. Phantom power is essential for powering the electronics of these microphones.

  7. Latency: Low-latency performance is crucial for real-time monitoring while recording. Audio interfaces with low latency ensure that musicians can hear themselves without noticeable delay.

  8. Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the chosen audio interface is compatible with your recording software and operating system.

  9. Accessories: Accessories for audio interfaces may include cables, adapters, rackmount kits, and protective cases. These accessories can help optimize your setup.

  10. Recording Quality: The quality of your audio interface can significantly impact the overall sound quality of your recordings. Investing in a high-quality interface is often essential for professional results.

Audio interfaces are indispensable tools for musicians, recording engineers, and producers, enabling them to capture, process, and manipulate audio with precision. The choice of an audio interface should be based on your specific recording needs, the number of inputs and outputs required, and your budget.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the headphone jack on this for monitoring your inputs, or does your PC audio come through it aswell
Answer: Hi, You can monitor your inputs and listen to playback from your computer simultaneously, which allows you to create overdubs with next to zero latency. You can either choose to monitor the inputs using the Direct Monitor switch, or you can use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW. If using the Direct Monitor feature the input signal will be passed directly to the line and headphone outputs, whereas if you use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW, you will be hearing the audio you're recording back from your DAW. In either case, you can still hear any other audio playing back from your DAW at the same time as recording. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support
Question: What type of usb cable does this come with? is it a type-c to type-c or a type-c to type-a
Answer: Hi, This comes with a type-c to type-a cable. If you have type-c ports, you will need to purchase a type-c to type-c USB cable separately. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support
Question: Does the XLR input only record audio to the left side
Answer: Hi, When recording a single microphone, you should ensure that you create a mono audio track in your DAW instead of a stereo audio track. When you record onto a mono audio track, the output from that track will be heard on both sides of your headphones or speakers (ensuring the output is set to stereo), however, if you record onto a stereo track, the audio will just be recorded onto the left side of a stereo file and you will ony hear it on the left of your headphones/speakers. This is explained in more detail here: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206849779?flash_digest=62885ef974b4eb116f3b3ea2c9b9c38ddb871473 Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support

User questions & answers

Question: Does the output jack in the front passthrough audio from your computer as well or does it only output the input signal for monitoring
Answer: Yes. It has phantom power. It will also work with any none phantom power condenser mic.
Question: Is there live monitoring? And can i turn it on and off
Answer: It gets 2-4 hours of battery life normally unless you use the 48db boost as when you are using unpowered professional mics. With that activated I would guess about 60-90 minutes. If you use that a lot you better plan on having spare batteries. Monitor your audio too as the last couple of minutes before it shuts off is not very useable.
Question: Do i need a pre amp for vocal mic? also i currently use pod by line 6. does this have something similar
Answer: Yes. The unit will be connected by usb, Or also as a standalone controller. Hope This Helps.
Question: Is the trs line input on the audio 1 balanced? I already have a mic pre amp and would like to bypass the amp. I don't want to degrade sound quality
Answer: yes there is, is programable

Question: it has two Thunderbolt 3 connector right
Answer: Yes, assuming your software supports multiple outputs, be it via ASIO or another of the modes. The XLR outputs show up as Main Outputs 1/2, whereas the TRS outputs show up as Analog 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8. You'll probably need to configure things appropriately in the CueMix Console then also in your DAW.
Question: Are line in and adat inputs separate (i.e. capable of being hooked up to separate sources simultaneously), or not

Product features

32-bit/192 kHz audio resolution

The industry-leading converters deliver exceptional audio quality, thanks to a maximum sampling rate of 192 kHz with 32-bit resolution.

Class-A D-PRE mic preamps

The UR-C series features D-PRE preamps, offering stellar recording quality unmatched in this class of products.

Compatible with all major audio software

Our UR-Cs are compatible with all major audio software supporting the ASIO, Core Audio or WDM standard, providing a fully integrated, DSP-based monitoring setup wherever you are and with whichever DAW you use.

Monitor modes

The UR24C has two separate, switchable monitor modes: DAW and DJ. In DAW mode – used for producing music with a DAW, such as Cubase – you can adjust the balance of the signals coming from the DAW and from the UR24C’s inputs. In DJ mode – optimized for performances with DJ software or backing tracks – you can choose to either output the mono master sound to the right side of your headphones, with the mono cue sound to the left, or have both in stereo and mix the two.

Latency-free monitoring with DSP effects

With built-in DSPs, UR-C interfaces provide zero-latency monitoring with effects for every DAW, with straightforward control of all routings and settings.

Loopback function for streaming

The Loopback function of the UR-Cs offers an easy way of streaming performances live to the Internet. Often used by hosts of live online broadcasts, when the function is active, incoming audio signals to the UR-C (such as microphone, guitar or line source) are merged with the signal coming from audio playback software like Cubase or another DAW inside the computer.

MIDI input and output

All UR-C audio interfaces are equipped with a MIDI I/O port to connect any MIDI device, making them extremely flexible for studio recording. Many studios and musicians still use MIDI input devices, classic sound modules, samplers and more as an integral part of their signature sound.

Cubase AI, Cubasis LE and dspMixFX included

Combining audio and MIDI recording, editing, mixing and scoring in a single, integrated software package, Cubase AI is the perfect entry into the world of computer-based music production.

UR-C’s seamless integration with iPad is enhanced by the inclusion of Cubasis LE, for creating professional music productions on your iPad.

dspMixFx provides zero-latency monitoring with effects for every DAW with straightforward control of all routings and settings.

Answer: It should but use the cable that's included
Question: Which of the Studio models, if any, can actually drive 250 ohm headphones? The 24c, sadly, did not
Answer: Not sure you are going to find a USB interface that will work those. Those are a very narrow use case style of headphones. I know that are marginally better for listening due to the damping effect. However, for recording and mixing a better choose would be a reference (flat EQ) design like the Sony MDRV6 headphones.
Question: Will this presonus iostation 24c 2x2 usb-c audio interface work with bandlab cakewalk daw
Answer: Yes. It uses standard usb drivers so if it works with your computer, it should work with any up to date software.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this only work with usb-c? or can it also be used with usb 3.0? (my computer doesn't have usb-c
Answer: The M4 has balanced outputs on all 4 outputs. So yes it will convert TRS 1/4 to an XLR connector. See the amplifier specs for its pinout wiring on xlr input to be sure the pins match correctly. All XLR inputs are not the same depending on the manufacturer.
Question: Will this work with the procaster
Answer: The M4 can record 4 tracks simultaneously in your DAW.
Question: What usb cables are included in the box? i see a usb-c connector on the back
Answer: 3 and 4 are fixed and are line level. 3 and 4 are designed so one can bypass the built in preamps available on 1 and 2. 3 and 4 are there to use with better preamps like channel strips if u have them. There is no gain no them. This is also another reason this device is ingenious. U cant find another device in this price range that gives u the sound and flexibility with 4 inputs and 4 outputs. The M4 is a no brainer. Say u have a mackie 1202.... u could use pres there and with the 2 built in. Or if say u had a 2ch micpreamp like the ART MPA. Gives u a chance for different flavors. Or maybe your keyboard or MPC to record into. $219.00 bucks. Nothing else to say. Besides they are flying off the shelves. Better get it while u can.
Question: Does anyone have more information of the d/a (dac) specs or quality
Answer: Not at all. U need another preamp and compressor in front of that and use the 3rd in put on the rear. U could also use like a channelstrip style preamp eq compressor or what ever in may have. If u use pro tools u can add a compressor in an aux and rout its output to another track and get a software compression there.

User questions & answers

Question: It appears that phantom power gets switched on all 4 mic pres simultaneously. Can I use dynamic & condenser mics together without causing damage
Answer: Because the one in the front is NOT powered. The rear inputs can power mics or active pickups, up to 48v. I run 9v batteries in all my active guitars, so they're already powered, so I just run all my guitars into the front input. If I'm recording my 4x12 cab, I use the XLR in the back with my SM57.
Question: will this power a microphone that requires phantom power? sorry if this is a dumb question, im new to XLR microphones
Answer: Your question has me curious. The data speed for this device will not get close to the rates requiring a cable with the thunderbolt 3 type throughout. The audio stream will get there just as fast with their stock cable and with a reasonably priced ($6-10) usb type c cable. The nicer cables are more about throughput than latency.
Question: Can it write four tracks simultaneosly
Answer: Audio is routed from the computer through USB-C to Evo. There are two 1/4” outputs on the back of the Evo to plug into speakers.
Question: Does this include a usb power cable that goes from the interface to the computer
Answer: My interface remembers its gain settings when rebooting. Both when I power cycle the unit and when my computer power cycles. Make sure you download the most up to date drivers for it.
