As you move the instrument's bellows it draws in and pushes out air and depending on which button you are pushing it creates different notes. I think it sounds like a symphony of angels. My husband likens it more to a mob of cats. There is a song book that has a few songs to help you learn.

Answer:	I purchased it for a 5 year old, but I read reviews of adults playing it. It's not a "toy" but it is on the smaller size. In order to play the buttons, I think it would fit a 14 year old hands better. I did have a good sound, if that helps. I would make sure it could be returned if unsure. Hope that helps.

Be aware that thus is a diatonic instrument meaning that when you pull on the bellows it’s one set if notes and when you push on the bellows it’s another set of notes. This is unlike a standard accordion where you can push or pull and the same button or bass key plays the same note either way.
