10 best synthesizer
A synthesizer, often referred to simply as a "synth," is an electronic musical instrument that generates and manipulates sound electronically. Synthesizers are widely used in music production, live performances, and various genres of music. Here are some key aspects of synthesizers:
Sound Generation: Synthesizers generate sound using various electronic components and techniques. They can produce a wide range of sounds, from simple tones to complex textures and effects.
Oscillators: Oscillators are the primary sound source in a synthesizer. They generate waveform shapes like sine, sawtooth, square, and triangle, which can be manipulated to create different sounds.
Filters: Synthesizers often include filters to shape and modify the generated sound. Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch filters can be used to control the frequency content of the sound.
Envelopes: Envelopes control how a sound evolves over time. They typically consist of four stages: attack, decay, sustain, and release (ADSR). Envelopes affect parameters like volume and filter cutoff.
Modulation: Synthesizers use modulation to add movement and variation to sounds. Modulation sources like LFOs (Low-Frequency Oscillators) can be used to modulate parameters like pitch, amplitude, or filter cutoff.
Polyphony: Synthesizers can be monophonic (play one note at a time) or polyphonic (play multiple notes simultaneously). The polyphony of a synth determines how many notes it can play at once.
Keyboard Controllers: Many synthesizers come with built-in keyboards, which allow musicians to play and control the synth in real-time. Some synthesizers also come in rack-mounted or module formats and require an external MIDI controller.
MIDI Integration: Synthesizers often support MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) connectivity, allowing them to communicate with other MIDI-compatible devices like computers, sequencers, and drum machines.
Presets: Synthesizers may include preset sounds or patches that users can select to access specific sounds quickly. Users can also create and save their own patches.
Genres and Applications: Synthesizers are versatile instruments used in various music genres, including electronic, pop, rock, jazz, and classical. They are employed for creating lead melodies, basslines, pads, effects, and more.
Analog vs. Digital: Synthesizers can be analog, digital, or a combination of both. Analog synths use analog circuitry, while digital synths rely on digital processing. Hybrid synths combine elements of both.
Modular Synthesis: Modular synthesizers consist of individual modules that can be interconnected to create custom signal paths and unique sounds. They offer maximum flexibility but require expertise to operate.
Synthesizers have played a significant role in shaping the music industry, contributing to the development of electronic music genres and serving as creative tools for musicians and producers worldwide. Their continued innovation and integration with technology have expanded their capabilities and made them essential instruments in modern music production.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the td-3 support usb audio - or just midi data |
Answer: | It won’t record midi data for the knobs |
Question: | Does moving its filter cutoff knob send midi cc messages that can be recorded by a sequencer, received, & played by the td3 when the sequencer plays |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Do you need to connect this to a mac or pc to use it |
Answer: | No - you can run it stand alone. It is a bit finicky and tricky to program patterns without the Behringer (included) sequencer programming tool, but if you're old school it works just like the TB 303 USED TO WORK. Step input, one note pitch and note value at a time. A pc/mac will make this easy - point and click. And then you DUMP what you created to the TD3 for playback. |
Question: | Hello! Does it come with an international power supply? (110v-220v |
Answer: | My TD-3 arrived with a power supply with an interchangeable U.S. plug adapter (100v-240v) so I think you can purchase different plug adapters elsewhere that are compatible with the power supply. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many instrument sounds does it have |
Answer: | Just so folks know: these "cables" are just pieces of stranded wire with pin tips crimped on. Should your stash go AWOL, ordinary 22 or 24 AWG *solid* wire will work just fine, in a pinch. If you're emotionally attached to the little rubber grippy tips, search for "jumpers" in the Electronics Department -- 50 pcs. normally runs less than $10. |
Question: | Any idea if the power supply included will work with this daisey chain? https://www.amazon.com/kvgear-daisy-chain-splitter-power/dp/b07fxv2nx |
Answer: | The "scale / micro tuning function" installed in this model is a specification that can be saved for each sequence (1 to 16). |
Question: | Does any of the Volca synths allow you to record live sounds or to save sounds from an external source so you can later use them within a sequence |
Answer: | Sounds mono |
Question: | how would you recommend i connect this to ableton live 9 on my laptop |
Answer: | The volca modular has does not have midi in. It has CV in and sync in. |

A Passion for Keyboards
Our founder, Uli Behringer has a deep passion for keyboards. Born in the small town of Baden, Switzerland in 1961, Uli grew up in a musical family where his mother taught him to play the piano at the tender age of four. His father was a scientist who built a massive organ in the family home and taught the young lad all about electronics. So at the age of 17, Behringer built his first synthesizer – the UB-1. Later, while attending college to seek a degree in audio engineering, Uli put his electronics knowledge to use, building his own equalizers and signal processors to fill the gap left by the university's inability to provide enough proper studio gear. Word soon spread about how good his products were, and he began building gear for his friends – the BEHRINGER legacy had begun. The rest, as they say, is history...
MS-101
The 1980s and ’90s spawned a new 'wave' of synth performers including Devo, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, The Crystal Method and a host of others, all empowered by the sound of a simple strap-on instrument that let keyboardists steal the spotlight away from their guitar- wielding bandmates. An ultra-affordable homage to that iconic synthesizer with all the features of the original and then some, such as a 32-step sequencer, arpeggiator and live performance kit, the MS-101 lets you conjure up virtually any sound with incredible finesse and ease. With its 32 semi-weighted full-size keys, pure analog signal path, authentic 3340 VCO with 4 simultaneously-mixable waveforms, plus extremely flexible VCF and VCA filters, the MS-101 is sure to become your favorite keyboard. Owning the MS-101 is like having your own personal time machine, enabling you to embrace the past – or make your imprint on the future!
True to the Original
Great care has been taken in engineering the MS-101, including the true to the original analog circuitry, legendary VCO, VCF and VCA designs, all of which combine to make it easy to recreate the classic sound performance. This highly-focused attention to detail is what gives the MS-101 its ultra-flexible sound shaping capability, which covers everything from super-fat bass and lead tones to stunning effects – and all the way out to the otherworldly sounds of your imagination.
Big, Fat Tones
The inspired synthesizer tracks laid down in the 1980s and ’90s are etched in the annals of progressive rock, wave, EDM and synth-pop music forever, making them truly classic in every sense of the word. The MS-101 lets you recreate all of that magic – or design incredibly fat and original sounds that will make you a legend in your own right!
Versatile Oscillator
MS-101-’s authentic 3340 Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) provides an incredible range of 4 simultaneously-mixable waveforms for sculpting the perfect sound. Options include: saw, triangle, square/pwm and octave-divided square sub-oscillator. Additionally, the VCO can be adjusted across a wide, 4-octave range (16', 8', 4', and 2'). This amazing flexibility gives you the tools needed to be your creative best.
Versatile VCF
The very heart of MS-101's sound is its highly-flexible Voltage Control Filter (VCF), which includes faders for: cutoff Frequency (10 Hz to 20 kHz); Resonance (0 to self-oscillation); Envelope and Modulation depth, and Keyboard follow (0 to 100%) to dial in the perfect sound. MS-101’s VCF can be modulated via the ADSR, keyboard tracking and Bender controller. The Frequency Modulation (FM) Amount knob sets the depth, while the FM Source selector lets you further modify the signal by choosing from: pulse; sawtooth; sub oscillator 1 octave down; 2 octaves down; narrow 2 octaves down, and Noise.
The Envelope, Please...
MS-101’s Envelope generator features 4 ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release) faders that help you craft incredible sounds, and utilizes a 3-position switch for Gate, Gate + Trigger and LFO. When applied to the Voltage Control Amplifier (VCA), the ADSR envelope is used to control the level of the note being played over time. When applied to the VCF, the ADSR envelope is used to control the cut-off frequency of the filter for each note played over time. In addition, the ADSR envelope can also be used to affect the VCO pulse width modulation.
Own the Stage
When you’re ready to strut your stuff and get a little centerstage time, the MS-101 has that covered too! Just attach the included guitar strap and handgrip (with pitch bend wheel and a pitch modulation trigger), and take your performance to the next level. Why should singers and guitar players get all the limelight – carve out a little of your own!

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used as a Midi controller as well |
Answer: | As of 12-2015, this keyboard comes with Ableton Live Lite. Not sure when the change was. |
Question: | I have watched some impressive videos with this thing that leave me wondering.. Just how long can your sequences be |
Answer: | It is not weighted. |
Question: | For the same price as the korg minilogue, i'm torn between the two. do the features of this enable it to sound as smooth and less dubsteppy |
Answer: | Honestly it's much better than anything else I could find. Solid build and the keys are great, other keys have a cheap feel but the keys on the A300 are much higher quality. The body has some weight on it but that's what makes it sturdy. |
Question: | i just bought a Roland juno ds-88 and wonder if sounds can be downloaded into the juno |
Answer: | One comment talking about "shorty keys" is inaccurate. These keys are standard size keys for a synth keyboard. Maybe the person complaining about the "short keys" was looking for piano-sized keys in a Synth. |

Answer: | The Hardware is the latest. There have been no changes in the physical synth. When you get your MicroFreak simply go to their website and check for firmware updates. Since purchasing my MicroFreak I have received two very nice updates. Just register your microFreak when you get it and check online. There are also lots of patches to download if you wish. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which one is better? The Sub Phatty or the Little Phatty Stage II? The Little Phatty Stage II costs more but the Sub Phatty has better reviews |
Answer: | The Sub Phatty is knobbier and, IMHO, richer-sounding, but it has a smaller keyboard, fewer presets, and a bunch of functions hidden behind Shift Mode. In my opinion, your best bet would probably be the Moog Sub 37. It uses the same synth engine as the Sub Phatty, has a 37-key keyboard, and has knobs for most or all of the aforementioned hidden functionality. If you don't need copious presets, it's basically the best of both worlds. |
Question: | does this work well as a lead as well? Can you make it sing with some high-notes |
Answer: | That's a negative! From Sound on Sound:"However, the pitch range lies only between MIDI Notes 0 and 72 (the 'C' an octave above middle 'C') and this is such a strict limit that you can't offset the pitch, detune VCO2 higher, or even pitch bend above this."Basically it only goes up C4. |
Question: | Can you use a bass guitar with the Moog Minitaur Bass Table Top Synthesizer |
Answer: | You should check out a Boss SYB-5 Bass Synthesizer or an Electro-Harmonix Bass Synthesizer. I own both and prefer the Electro-Harmonix Bass Synthesizer since it is an analog bass synthesizer effect box. If you want some added low end, you also check out a DOD Meat Box. They have been reissued in a "vintage" housing despite being a 1990s stompbox. I have used an original since they first came out and really liked it as cheap effect, but I cannot attest to the reissue's sound. I do own a Moog Minitaur and it is an instrument with an audio input. You also likely need a sequencer or some other controller to play a bass guitar through it and get dynamic effects. However, the depths this synth trolls on its own will make you forget about your bass guitar. |
Question: | Which synth is better for lead tones, the Korg MS-20 Mini or the Moog Sub Phatty |
Answer: | Hi, Cullen ~This all depends on what style or inclinations You have. Personally, I prefer the Moog Sub Phatty (why I use one in mi rig) because I can get very hefty frequency modulated sounds (LFO goes to audio rate) and have the ability to recall settings (by programming and saving Presets). Also, the Moog has a happier sentiment to mi ears. Of course, the MS-20 Mini or Full Size Kit - I have both in stock by the way - is very complimentary and sounds so different from the Moog, thanks to its Bandpass Filter topology (jumper selectable on the full size kit. Read: "Two types of filter are provided: both the early and later versionsThe original MS-20 used different VCF circuits depending on the date of production. Units produced in the earlier period used a filter noted for its distinctive distortion and self-oscillation, while the filter used in later units was a low-noise design with a more mellow character. Amazingly, this new MS-20 Kit provides both filters. You can switch between the two by moving a jumper pin on the circuit board according to your taste or needs.") That being said, I think a synthesist can certainly justify owning both. Really just up to operator preference (Allow Your ears to decide) if You must choose one. So if You like High pass filter sounds, go with the MS, and if You want the weightiest, roundest tones, go with the Moog. Please do express any concerns moving forward, as I am here to help, and I do hope that You consider making Your synthesizer purchase with Noisebug.Yours in Musik~~~Old NikNOISEBUG |

Product description
Op-1 comes loaded with great kits, but if you feel that you want more just press the mic key to sample anything. And if that's not enough you just connect your OP-1 to your computer and drag and drop any .aif file straight to the OP-1.
- CREATE MUSIC ON-THE-FLY - The Teenage Engineering OP-1 features 13 unique synth engines, 7 high-quality stereo effects, and exchangeable LFOs. It offers physically modeled string synthesis and frequency modulation.
- OFFERS "TAPE RECORDING" - The 4-track tape feature lets you record any beats you create, play, sequence, or tweak. You can overdub with pitch change by matching the tape-speed with the sequencer clock.
- PROVIDES UNIQUE SEQUENCERS - Easily arrange notes in different ways using one of the four original sequencers. While the Tape function produces pure audio recording, the sequencer stores note data.
- SAMPLES SOUNDS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES - You can sample a sound using the onboard microphone. The built-in FM radio allows you to sample local radio stations or music. You can also feed tracks plugged from a recorder in the 3.5mm line input.
- LASTS LONGER THAN OTHER DEVICES - The tiny OP-1 packs 16 hours of battery life. You can travel and play the synthesizer without worrying about running out of power. The OP-1 can even last for 2 years on standby mode.
User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone recommend a charger that will work for the OP-1 (besides a laptop |
Answer: | don't use the laptop charger or you will be sorry. check teenage engineering for charger specs. |
Question: | Can you apply more than one filter at a time (both on master and on the synth |
Answer: | You cannot. You can have a mixer and a synth filter active, but cannot have multiple filters active on one module. You can work around this by recording what you like with one filter to tape, sampling it, and adding another filter on top of that sample. Not the greatest solution but it does work. |
Question: | How easy and fast do you get to get tha hang out of the OP-1 and start making music |
Answer: | I'd spend some time watching the videos at the OP-1 website: http://www.teenageengineering.com/products/op-1/videos. They'll give you a good feel for what it's like to use it and what's possible. But I don't think it's hard to start making music at all. |
Question: | Why does the price keep going up? It was $899 a month and a half back. Then it went to $999 and now it's $1099 since last week |
Answer: | Teenage engineering announced in 2018 they were going to stop producing the OP-1, which was priced at $799, which caused prices to go crazy because people still wanted one but they were going to soon be unavailable. After a bit of craziness, Teenage engineering announced that they would re-start production, but it took a bit to get production back up and running and when the OP-1 was relaunched, it was at its higher price point of $1,299. Other than the short time it was out of production, the OP-1 has been in production since 2011. Whether its worth it or not is up to you, but the OP-1 remains extremely popular in 2020. |
