13 best vito saxophones

Vito saxophones are a line of saxophones that were once popular among students and beginners in the world of music education. Vito saxophones are often associated with affordability and durability, making them a common choice for individuals who are just starting to learn how to play the saxophone, especially the alto saxophone. Here are some key points about Vito saxophones:

  1. Manufacturer: Vito saxophones were originally produced by the Leblanc Corporation, a well-known manufacturer of woodwind instruments. Leblanc aimed to create saxophones that were both budget-friendly and capable of producing decent sound quality.

  2. Student-Friendly: Vito saxophones were primarily designed with students and beginners in mind. They were known for being durable and easy to play, which made them a popular choice for school music programs.

  3. Materials: Vito saxophones were typically made from brass, like many other saxophones. The key construction and design were often simplified to make them more approachable for beginners.

  4. Models: Vito saxophones came in various models, with the most common ones being alto saxophones. These models often included features like ribbed construction and comfortable keywork.

  5. Accessories: Like other saxophones, Vito saxophones required accessories such as reeds, mouthpieces, ligatures, and cases. These accessories could affect the instrument's sound and playability.

  6. Legacy: While Vito saxophones were popular in the past, they are less common today. The Leblanc Corporation has undergone changes, and the brand's focus has shifted. As a result, Vito saxophones may not be as readily available as they once were, and other brands have become more prominent in the student saxophone market.

  7. Considerations: If you are considering purchasing a Vito saxophone or any saxophone for a beginner, it's essential to assess factors like budget, the player's skill level, and the instrument's condition. Additionally, seeking advice from a music teacher or experienced saxophonist can be helpful in making an informed choice.

Remember that the quality of a saxophone can significantly impact a player's learning experience and musical development. While Vito saxophones were designed to be affordable and suitable for beginners, it's essential to explore various options and potentially try different instruments to find the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

  • With its exceptional roundness, the ultimate classical mouthpiece
  • Tip Opening - 152 (1/100mm)
  • Medium Long Facing
  • Works best with Vandoren #2.5-#4 Reeds

User questions & answers

Question: I am searching for a mouthpiece that has great control over lows and highs and has a more centered focused sound. Any help
Answer: the Vandorin Optimum mouthpiece can give you this kind of versatility using the Vandorin Optimum ligature but you might consider a Rovner Versa ligature for the greatest flexibility for a modern sound. The Sigurd Rascher mouthpiece has a larger chamber and produces super highs and lows using the Rovner Versa ligature while producing a more traditional sound. Hope this helps. Rich
Question: This is my first time purchasing these items. it is a christmas present for my son. if i purchase the wrong item, will i be able to exchange them
Answer: Amazon is very good about exchanges, but being a mouthpiece, it may depend on who the actual vendor is. Look for "ships and sold by Amazon" under the price. Those are returnable. If it's sold by a 3rd party, but shipped from Amazon, it may not be. And if only trying out a mouthpiece, ALWAYS us one of those rubber mouthpiece patches, so you don't leave any bite marks.
Question: This may be a dumb question, but how does the sound compare to the al4 and al
Answer: It's not a dumb question at all. The model numbers AL3, AL4, AL5 refer mostly to tip opening with AL3 having the smallest tip opening. The AL3 with a soft reed such as 1-1/2 or 2 will blow with the least back pressure while the AL4 will have a greater back pressure and the AL5 the greatest back pressure. Long story short here is if you don't mind blowing 'till you face turns red go for the wider tips but use a narrow tip (AL3) to enjoy playing your sax without exerting exceptional effort. You can still play an AL3 loud with a soft reed - today's reeds are amazing, try a few different kinds until you find one or two that work for you. Hope this helps.
Question: For alto saxophone, what Vandoren Optimum mouthpiece would have a closer chamber size to a Yamaha 4C? An AL3 or AL4 mouthpiece
Answer: AL4 (1.63mm tip opening) is closest to 4C (1.6mm). AL3 is less, 1.52mm

  • Also available in ReedGard II for two reeds
  • Also available for Tenor/Baritone reeds

User questions & answers

Question: Im upset with my order. All i recieved today was the reed case. No reeds. How can we fix this
Answer: The product is just the reed guard, without the reeds. You can order them separately through Amazon though. There are several brands to choose from.
Question: Will this fit bass clarinet reeds
Answer: I wouldn't recommend it. Bass clarinet reeds are closer to tenor sax reeds in size, which would make them fit very snugly into this reed guard, if at all. For bass clarinet, I would recommend the tenor sax/bari sax size, sku RGRD4TSBS.
Question: What type of plastic is it made of? Thanks
Answer: Standard ABS plastic, not PLA.
Question: Does this case have a cover or is it open like the picture
Answer: Open. I've seen closed covers destroy many reeds due to rotting. This is the best reed protection and proper drying protector I've ever used.

User questions & answers

Question: is the sound quality good
Answer: Yes it is.my son sounds really good and he is beginner.
Question: what is the weight of the saxophone with the bag
Answer: sorry it took me long to answer it is about 10 to 15 pounds, its really light. I used to ride my bike, run, walk for 30 minutes to my practice sections and it wasn't heavy. Now the regular saxophone strap is for masochist, so just buy a neotech strap.
Question: i am an adult looking to purchase this saxophone. does any adults have experience playing and living this instrument
Answer: I recently bought this saxophone I'm 41 years old and a professional musician While there are better saxophones our there (including with a 10x price tag!) this saxophone is an excellent investment. The saxophone is a little full-bodies for me but aside from that it's wonderful. The only problem I have with this saxophone is the right hand palm keys are a little too far back for me. I have to completely readjust my hand every time I need to use tge palm keys to do a flutter or trill. Another problem is the left hand palm keys are quite sharp and dig into my hand at times when I use them. A word about the tone...it's very dark and full-bodied which for me is a problem as I prefer my alto to sing with fire and brilliance by the bucket load! I switch between an ARB metal 6 and a Vandoren Jumbo Java A45. While the time I get is nice I still don't get the bright tone or edginess that I get on my 1940s Evette Schaeffer. It's a wonderful saxophone for the money and should last for years to carry anyone well into their professional career (if that's what you're after).
Question: Does it sound the same as a Yamaha saxophone or worst
Answer: The Yamaha YAS 61 was supposed to be Yamaha`s first professional model saxophone. In my opinion the Yamaha YAS 61 sounds brighter and louder, but that`s with the Bamber jazz mouthpiece. That will make a difference. The Mendini was not far behind the Yamaha YAS 61 in sound though. I give the Yamaha YAS 61 a grade A for sound quality, and the Mendini Alto Saxophone a grade B to B+ for sound quality. Switching to a jazz mouthpiece on the Mendini does make it sound brighter. I like Lavoz reeds too. I have not found the most ideal mouthpiece just yet for the Mendini Sax. I haven`t had it long enough to know. Bamber mouthpieces are not for sale anymore, that is I can`t find them on the internet. Metalite M 5 is inexpensive on amazon.com and will make the Mendini Alto Saxophone louder. It will be short shank so will fit on the cork further out than the mouthpiece that comes with the saxophone. E. Rousseau JDX 6 is another jazz mouthpiece for a little more money. Right now I have been practicing with the mouthpiece that came with the Mendini saxophone with a Lavoz reed. Maybe a homemade metal piece inserted in the mouthpiece will make this mouthpiece play brighter. I think it has a fairly good tone quality with the Mendini mouthpiece. The Mendini alto saxophone has it`s own signature sound as other saxophones have as well. The Mendini alto saxophone is a little quieter and slightly less bright than the Yamaha, and not necessarily worse. Some saxophonist don`t always want that bright of a sound. I do though. Hope that answers your question ? If you want to ask more questions please send another request. I`ll try to help

User questions & answers

Question: Hi, after reading one of the reviews on this case, just wanted to confirm that this listing is for the "hard" case? Thanks JT
Answer: Yes, it is a hard case. Latches do NOT lock. Fairly good inner storage space. Very glad I bought this case for my son's sax.
Question: Will this fit a 1920s conn new wonder 1? thanks
Answer: You'll want to be careful using a new hard case with that horn -- vintage horns usually have toneholes on BOTH sides of the bell, and modern cases don't allow for that, so you may risk mashing the tonehole guards. I have two antique Bueschers and neither will fit in a modern hardshell case.
Question: Hi. Looking for a new case for my son's old Vito (made by Yahama) alto sax. Anyone know if it will fit in this hard case
Answer: Yea it will. I recently purchased this case for my old Vito alto sax. Fits good. There's enough room for the neck and a small area for the mouthpiece and reeds. It's a nice case. Lightweight and easy to carry.
Question: Will a 1950s Buescher Aristocrat (with bell keys on left side) fit in this case
Answer: nice horn.... I am not an expert on all things case, but I have several old saxes I am repairing and not a one fits into cases made after 1960.. that pretty much means most all newer cases... I would be leary of this one. Your Buescher would likely have issues with the lift the keys give the bell and your length may a little too long. I have taken to buying old luggage pieces and converting them into sax cases... costs me about $80 in materials. Carefully scope out your 3 dimensional footprint and look for an old piece of well made luggage... or consider a tenor case and refit it. I feel your frustration... wish I could be of more help

User questions & answers

Question: Is it for beginners
Answer: With a new mouthpiece and a good reed, it actually sounds very good, and can be used on stage.Out of all the saxes I've purchased, this one equals the sound quality of a Taiwanese sax! (level up from standard Chinese saxes), and can sound better than saxes two or three times it's price.I think it's for intermediates, studio and live; or a nice sax for pro's who need a backup sax, or one that's cheap, or great for looks.Doesn't sound like a $2k sax, but I'd say it does come close to a $800-1200 sax.Reason this is cheap, is because there are no replacement parts, and no one really can fix these in case there are missing pieces.
Question: Is this the same sax they use in school band? my daughter is joining and i'd like to know so i don't have to pay the schools high costs
Answer: Talk to the band director. Usually they can help you find a good sax that you can afford.
Question: Will I need a new mouthpiece, reeds, and neck strap because most of the reviews say they are bad
Answer: No. The one that comes with it, is okay for rehearsals and practice. You will want a new mouthpiece if you want it to sound louder and nicer, and a new neoprene neck strap for comfort.I use a Legere reed, which sounds really nice, and a $30 chinese metal mouthpiece. I'm really happy with the sound and the ease of playing. The provided mouthpiece is a little quiet for band play. You can use the strap for longer periods of time, if you have a cushioning between your neck and the strap (like a little towel, or high collar on your shirt)
Question: Can anyone post this sax on youtube so we can hear sound quality before i buy it
Answer: What did you think of sound quality? I’m looking for a saxophone for my husband who hasn’t played since middle school. Don’t want to spend too much in case he doesn’t really get into it.

  • Lightweight construction
  • Spring-loaded closure
  • Protects 10 reeds

User questions & answers

Question: How many reeds will this hold
Answer: 8 reeds. 4 in the front, 4 in the back.
Question: would I be able to fit clarinet reeds in ? I'm looking for a Reed case to hold both clarinet and tenor reeds
Answer: Surely so. You may have to soflty jam the clarinet reeds in so that they're secure. I can confirm that the tenor reeds for perfectly so this case may be the one for you. Hope this helps.
Question: What type of reeds will work for alto and tenor? Or can any reed can be put in there
Answer: Any traditional Reed will fit in here. I don't know about synthetic reeds but from what I understand, these reeds are made to the same dimensions. As you fit tenor reeds in each slot after you play, you'll find that it's harder to fit them in. That's because cane will have expanded during your session. Simply fit it in as best as you can. Make sure you buy the correct case for the correct Reed (baritone reeds will probably not for here)
Question: Will a bass clarinet reed fit in this case
Answer: Absolutely! Bass clarinet and tenor reeds are virtually the same size. I actually have accidently used one in place of a tenor reed. Whoops.
