14 best 5 string electric violins
A 5-string electric violin is a musical instrument that combines the traditional features of a violin with the modern capabilities of an electric instrument. It is related to violins, strings, orchestral string accessories and parts, instrument accessories, and musical instruments. Here is what you should know about 5-string electric violins:
Design: A 5-string electric violin is similar in shape and structure to a traditional acoustic violin but features an extra string, typically tuned to a lower pitch. The standard tuning for a 5-string electric violin is G, D, A, E, and a lower C string.
Sound Production: Electric violins generate sound through electronic pickups that convert the vibration of the strings into an electrical signal. This signal is then amplified and sent to an amplifier or speaker, allowing the player to control the volume and tone of the sound.
Tone and Versatility: The addition of a fifth string on a 5-string electric violin provides extended range and versatility compared to a traditional 4-string violin. This extra string allows for lower notes and a broader range of musical expression.
Amplification: Electric violins are commonly used in amplified settings, such as rock bands, jazz ensembles, and modern orchestras. They can be connected to amplifiers or sound systems to project their sound to a larger audience.
Shape and Materials: Electric violins come in various shapes and materials, including traditional violin shapes, as well as more modern and ergonomic designs. Materials used for construction can vary and may include wood, carbon fiber, or other composite materials.
Pickup Types: Electric violins may use different types of pickups, including piezo-electric, magnetic, or a combination of both, to capture the nuances of the player's performance. These pickups influence the instrument's tone and sound.
Effects and Processing: Many electric violinists use effects pedals and processing units to modify and shape their sound. This allows for the creation of unique tones, including effects like reverb, delay, and distortion.
Playing Styles: Electric violins are versatile and suitable for various musical genres, from classical to rock, jazz, and experimental music. Players often experiment with different playing techniques and styles to explore the instrument's capabilities fully.
Accessories: Accessories for 5-string electric violins include specialized bows, shoulder rests, and cases designed to accommodate the instrument's shape and size. Players may also use headphones for silent practice or in-ear monitors for live performances.
Maintenance: Like acoustic violins, electric violins require regular maintenance, including string replacement, cleaning, and occasional adjustments to the bridge, fingerboard, and electronics.
In summary, a 5-string electric violin is a versatile instrument that combines the classical beauty of a violin with modern electronic capabilities. It offers extended range and is used in various musical genres, making it a valuable addition to both classical and contemporary music settings.

User questions & answers
Question: | Hi What is the extra black piece under the bridge |
Answer: | Yes, and Electric Violin Shop also provides a full setup of the violin for free. |
Question: | How long is the instrument |
Answer: | Yes it will fit in a regular 4x4 violin case. Yes, you can use pretty much any normal shoulder rest and chin rest on this instrument. I love mine! |
Question: | pictures are real? have more pictures? and, strings comes with violin? or another pack ? thanx |
Answer: | Hi Arnold, the YEV105NT actually comes with a Zyex 4 string composite violin set and a Helicore violin C string, since Zyex doesn't make a violin length C string. However, you can use any violin strings on this instrument (we'd recommend a true violin C string if possible -- Sensicore, Helicore, and NS electrics all make a violin C). |
Question: | is the pick up powered by 9v battery |
Answer: | Yes, the fifth string is a C, so it covers the pitches CGDAE. The scale length, however, is that of a violin rather than a viola, so it will feel familiar to play if you're a violinist. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you plug it into a amp because the images do not show a jack |
Answer: | Yes. There are 3 sockets on the back of violin. One is "Line out" (for amp). One is "Mic" and one is "Phones". The Included cord for the amp is a little over 9 feet and is decent quality. There is no static backround noise and my violin comes in clear. *In the stock photo the amp cable is to the right of the headphones. |
Question: | How can I plug it to my laptop? There is a chord but it doesn't fit the computer outlet |
Answer: | It has a quarter inch plug, look for either an A to D connector, or (more easily a rocksmith cable) a USB interface. Electric instruments are almost all the same you'll never have the same sound as an acoustic. But it will give you a unique and interesting sound. Especially at this price point. |
Question: | how quiet is it? I would be practicing during my toddlers nap time and need it to be very very quiet/silent with out an amp or head phones |
Answer: | I get about 81 dB playing open strings. It’s not so quiet. |
Question: | Does the kit come with strings attached or must you string them yourself |
Answer: | The strings come attached. In fact, as soon as my violin came in, I took it to my local music store (who strung my acoustic violin) to have him check it out to see if the violin and strings are of good quality. He thought is was decent quality. I couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price. When you first get it, you will have to re-tune the strings every 10 minutes or so while you are playing, but after about a week of re-tuning (and it does need tuning less frequently with time) you are good to go. It doesn't hold a tune as well as my acoustic...I tune it before I begin playing usually, but it does hold well and the sound is fantastic. You can play it through an amp or into headphones and I think the sound quality is awesome. Hope this helps. :) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you plug the headphones directly into it or plug it into an amp and the headphones out of the amp |
Answer: | You can plug your headphones directly into it. |
Question: | Can you attach shoulder straps to the case or does the case come with straps |
Answer: | There were straps on the case already attached but I never loosened them because the violin was cracked. |
Question: | Hi, I'm really interested in this product, but will the strings of the violin be tuned |
Answer: | Hello Firas A. I saw your question about the violin strings, and I did a ton of research on this before I got it, so I'm to help another person do the same. I got this thing earlier this year, being a newbie at the violin thing, so I'm not an expert critic on the product. However, when I received mine, my strings were installed, but not in tune. The bridge had also fallen over (the light-wood thing that holds the strings up), but that was easy to re-erect. I found a free violin tuner app for my phone, and used that to tune my violin. The strings aren't the greatest quality, but they will work until you can get them replaced with a set of good ones. Over all, the whole deal wasn't bad. Just be sure to buy a shoulder rest.... |
Question: | Someone told me that this violin does not come with strings when you buy it, is that true |
Answer: | This violin comes with all the strings. I am very satisfied with the purchase as I play every week for my church and since I'm the only stringed instrument I need to be heard! |

Cecilio Electric Violin
Whether you're practicing, recording in studio or performing on stage, the Cecilio electric violin outfit offers excellent functionality and style. This violin package includes a well-padded lightweight hard case, a bow, rosin, bridge, pickup, aux cable, and headphones. Great for Student, Intermediate and Professional Violinist.
How to choose violin sizes
Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.
To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.
If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.

Question: | Does it come with a shoulder rest |
Answer: | Hi , this violin no play with earphone. Para afinar as cordas precisa de um aparelho de afinar cordas. Esse nao vem incluso neste violino. |
Question: | What's the size of the violin |
Answer: | You can absolutely play this violin acoustically. The Electronics are just there if you happen to ever want to plug it in! |
Question: | What's the weight of the violin alone |
Answer: | It's easy! Get an amp to headphone jack converter, just plugs into the amp port on the violin and provides headphone ports. You'll also need a muter, it's a big rubber thing that slips over the strings and bridge, that reduces sound allot, but not so much that the headphones wouldn't pick it up. I'll drop some links below:Muter:http://www.amazon.com/Glaesel-Violin-Ultra-Practice-Mute/dp/B0002II6V0/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1430597446&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=glasser+muterAdapter:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JSVO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=5CARPKV8BWHG&coliid=I1HLDE6SLLNSYB |

About Tuning
- Adjust the pitch of each string using the pegs.
- After tuning is complete, make sure that the tailpiece side of the bridge is still properly aligned. If the bridge is leaning in either direction, slightly loosen the strings and carefully re-align the bridge using both hands.
- When the pegs can not tighten the strings, pitch the place between issue peg and peg box with rosin to increase the friction so that the issue peg can tighten the strings.
1. Loosen the strings slightly
To avoid snapping a string while placing the bridge, loosen the strings slightly. You loosen violin strings by turning the tuning knobs on the end of the violin. Strings should be loose enough that you can easily pull them up and down, allowing them to be lifted up enough to slip bridge under the strings.
2. Positioning the Bridge
The lower side of the bridge is the e-string side, and the taller side of the bridge is the g-string side. Put the bridge in the place of trough-like cuboid, make sure the e-string comes over the e-string side, and the g-string comes over the g-string side.
If you don't know which strings are which, when the violin's head is facing your body, the g-string will be the string farthest to the left. The e-string will be the string farthest to the right.
3. Tighten the strings
Now you can re-tighten your strings to keep the knob in place. Gently turn each knob on the bottom of the violin. It's a good idea to use one hand to hold the bridge in place while tightening the strings, to prevent it from falling over. Tighten the strings until they are secure enough to keep the bridge in place while still having a very slight amount of slack.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this tune a banjo |
Answer: | 4 3/8 " w x 2 7/8" h x 1/2" d |
Question: | Will this tuner stay in the tuning I calibrate it to? E.g. if I set it to 432hz will it remain there each time it's turned off and on |
Answer: | Well, I just bought one and haven’t used it yet but it looks to me like you can tune anything with it. The device merely shows the frequency Of the notes it “hears”. You stilll have to “tune” the instrument to the proper frequency, which you can see on the device. |
Question: | Learning cello 1st position. need a device to show if I'm spot on. Quick response? Attach to bridge? Handles harmonics accurately |
Answer: | Yes, you can plug your electric guitar directly into this tuner without an amp and tune it. The input on the right side is used for this. |
Question: | Can I easily calibrate this to 432 Hz |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you plug this into a computer to record/mix with software |
Answer: | That is part of the wood base design. It is not a hook and is more subtle in actuality. No problems in the performance or use of the instrument. |
Question: | Can a left handed player use this violin |
Answer: | We set up and test all of our instruments in our shop, so if the YEV violin is ordered through our seller store on Amazon, our luthier will stand up the bridge, shape it as needed, and perform a standard instrument setup (includes testing the electronics) before it ships out. |
Question: | What does they warranty cover |
Answer: | The YEV104 NT is the 4-string version; the YEV105 NT is the 5-string version (natural). |
Question: | This may be a dumb question... but are you able to play with the headphones on so that only you can hear while practicing |
Answer: | Hi, the Yamaha YEV104 NT at this price does not include a bow or case, but does include the violin, strings, and a structured cardboard box. |
Question: | what is the "hook" like thing coming out of the neck of the instrument |
Answer: | It depends on the persons size. I would take her to a music shop and see what you can learn. If I were to take a guess I would say go with the 3/4, but it really depends on the size of the child. If the 3/4 is too large, it wouldn't be for too long. The scale on the smaller violins is shorter making the reach easier for smaller hands. A music teacher at school would be a good source to settle the matter. This violin is inexpensive so if you get the wrong size it is not a big loss. |
Question: | Does it come with assembled and ready to play |
Answer: | Out of the box, just tune the violin (tuner not included), tighten the bow and rosin it for about 10-15 minutes, and the violin is set. |
Question: | is this a 5 string or 4 string violin |
Answer: | Style 2 is lighter than style 1 because of the missing corner, however, they are not much different in the weight. |
Question: | Dose this come with a bow |
Answer: | Yes, as far as I know. Mine did and only took minor tuning. |
Question: | I know nothing about violins... I am purchasing for my 8 year old daughter, would I go with 1/2 size, or 3/4? Thank you |
Answer: | Everything that is in the picture comes in the case. |
Question: | Is it ready to play out of the box, or is some kind of setup required |
Answer: | I got the 4/4 size however my grandaughter has the 7/8 and she is 10. The violins are so close in size its hard to tell the difference however her bow in lenght is shorter. |
Question: | Is Style 1 heavier than Style 2 (since one more wing)? Thanks |
Answer: | 5 -7 yrs about 18"arm span 1/47-9yrs about 20"arm span 1/2 |
Question: | Does it come with strings |
Answer: | The bridge is the difference. A fiddle is a violin with a flatter bridge and a violin with a rounded bridge is played in the classic style and just called violin. Fiddle, as some mentioned is related to folk, country western, zydeco, bluegrass, folksy types of music. This is because the flatter bridge allows one to play chords more easily by making it easier to bow two or more strings at once. Whereas a standard violin with rounded bridge is easier to bow single notes as one would in an orchestral setting. |

Question: | How do you plug the violin into the amp? Is there a seperate cord or do you have to buy one |
Answer: | A cord should have come with the violin. It has 1/4" male inputs. One side plugs into amp input the other plugs into side of violin near the chin restn |
Question: | can you play it thru an iphone with headphones |
Answer: | You could play it with headphones directly, no iPhone required. |
Question: | Can you exclude battery? With battery this package is not allowed in my country india state kerala |
Answer: | Need Battery to produce sound. No Battery no sound. |
Question: | My son has wireless Beats. Is there a way to connect them to the violin |
Answer: | Yes and it's fairly easy as far as Bluetooth connectivity goes, although it is not without some problems. You will need a Bluetooth transmitter (if you don't already have one), which will take audio output from the violin and send it to the Bluetooth Beats. I have 2 of the from Taotronics and especially like their Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter and Receiver, which you can buy on Amazon for about $40. The transmitter/receiver has a standard 3.5" stereo input jack, so you will need an adapter that goes from the 2 conductor mono-output of the violin to the 3 conductor stereo input jack, otherwise you might only hear the output in one of the Beats' earphones. Check out the "Monoprice 107128 3.5mm Mono Plug to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adaptor" at Amazon for $2.02! Now, while the transmitter also has TOS-Link connections, the violin doesn't, so you won't find that option useful for this, but you might find that useful with other audio devices. The transmitter has a pretty decent range - about 20-30 feet. Of course, the transmitter still needs to be connected with a cable from the violin but that's always been a problem - you have to connect the violin to something via a cable. The transmitter's dimensions are approximately 2 1/4" square and 3/4" thick, weighing in at just 1.3 ounces. Its lithium battery lasts a long time and it has a standard micro-USB charging port. Even if you decide not to use it for your electric violin, it's still nice to have. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between Cecilio cvn-200 and mendini |
Answer: | Si!.. Se muestra con todos los accesorios. Una pieza 100% original y profesional. Recomiendo el Violín asi como el vendedor 100% 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 Estrellas |
Question: | Does it come setup |
Answer: | If you're unsure of how to place the bridge back on, take it to a music shop and they will assist you, music and arts centers will assist you in the store, I've done plenty of those at no cost when I used to work there. There is a certain direction and placing the bridge must sit to be able to sit properly, please seek a professional for instrument care. |
Question: | The tuning pegs do not stay after adjusting, is this normal |
Answer: | This product comes with two bridges that are made by the manufacture. No name on the bridges. I bought this product and it is an amazing deal for the quality and tone of the instrument! I suggest buying new strings, the ones that come in this set are cheap and dull sounding! Dominant Strings are suggested by this professional of 20 years! |
Question: | does this item come with an extra set of strings |
Answer: | hi Kyle D...no, I thought the violin would look like the picture because the wood looks rich and the violin strings looks like it would have a deep sound to it. However, if you haven't bought the violin yet..good.. I would spend a little more money on a good violin that would last you a long time..my mendini is still in the box oh and the strings on the violin are cheap..thank you for asking I hoped I help :) Deanne allen |
Question: | Es el primero que se muestra con todos los accesorios o es el naranja de abajo. Precio es profesional |
Answer: | Only one . easy to use. |
Question: | My daughter was trying to tune her violin (she's twelve and just starting out) and the bridge fell off. Is it difficult to put back on |
Answer: | The top button changes the pitch: ie 440 (which is standard pitch) to a faster pitch and turns the tuner off and on. The bottom button changes the instrument to be tuned: violin, viola, cello & base. Hope this helps. |
Question: | what bridge does this come with |
Answer: | The clip opens to 1 1/4 inch at the widest. Don't know if that's large enough for your bass. |
Question: | Does the actual violin that will ship look anything like this |
Answer: | It responds as quickly as any tuner meaning you can check long notes, but not short ones. However, the center markers for pitch are white with yellow ones on each side which means there's little contrast to see while you're playing. So I think it would be tough to monitor your pitch while playing. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these work on electric violins |
Answer: | Cecilio CVN-200 has bright and clear sound. Mendini MV200 and MV300: same quality but with different finish. Both have mellow and warm sound. Mendini MV400: Ebony fittings, has bright and clear sound Mendini MV500: Ebony fittings, has deep rich and powerful tone |
Question: | how many strings come in these packets? is it just one, all or half |
Answer: | you have to tune it and rosin up the bow |
Question: | Are these ball ends |
Answer: | This is because the pegs are not tapered to fit the pegs. They are only drilled straight through. They must be hand fitted for the pegs to stay put after tuning. These instruments take many shortcuts to make them cheaper. That is a big problem as the student will get frustrated (and so will their teacher) and all too often will quit playing because of the cheap method of construction. Do Not Buy Any Super Cheap Instruments!!! Would you expect a super cheap car to be reliable and safe? Of course not!! Why do you think this is different? |
Question: | I´m just learning to play. What does medium, heavy, light tension mean? Which should I buy |
Answer: | It does not come with extra set of string. |
