Is 40 inches long in the wounded state or free state? if it is in the wounded state, a typical 7 feet height garage door needs 7 and half turns (30 quarter turns) to load up the spring. The free state will be 2 inches shorter. Then you need to order 38 inches long spring. For your information, i installed my garage torsional spring with 29 quarter turns, otherwise, the door open too much and the door will not stay neutral in the middle of the door opening when it is un-hooked from garage opener system. It could be the original spring was slightly oversized for the garage door weight. |
