11 best ab violin rosins

"AB violin rosin" does not refer to a specific or well-known type of rosin used for stringed instruments like violins. Rosin is a critical accessory for violinists, cellists, and other string instrument players as it is applied to the bow's hair to provide friction and grip on the strings, producing sound when the bow is drawn across the strings.

When selecting rosin for a violin, cellist, or other orchestral stringed instruments, musicians typically consider factors such as:

  1. Type of Rosin: There are different types of rosin available, including light, dark, and amber rosin. Light rosin is often preferred for violins and other higher-pitched string instruments, while darker rosins may be used for cellos and other lower-pitched instruments.

  2. Brand and Quality: Many reputable brands produce high-quality rosins for string instruments. Some popular brands include Pirastro, Hill, Bernardel, and Jade. The choice of brand can impact the rosin's performance and texture.

  3. Specific Needs: Some players may have specific preferences for rosin depending on their playing style, the climate they perform in, and the specific sound they want to achieve. For example, some rosins are formulated for use in humid conditions, while others are better suited for drier climates.

  4. Personal Preference: Ultimately, the choice of rosin can be a matter of personal preference. Musicians may try different rosins to find the one that suits their playing style and instrument the best.

It's important to note that there isn't a widely recognized "AB violin rosin" in the world of stringed instruments. Musicians typically choose rosins based on their individual needs and preferences, and they may consult with their teachers or fellow players for recommendations. The choice of rosin can impact the tone and playability of the instrument, so it's an essential consideration for any string player.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this not suitable for dry Southern California climate then (based on the reviews
Answer: I don't know what reviews you have read. But here is mine: I use this rosin in the real desert of Reno, Nevada. I have no problems with it. Southern California has higher humidity percentages than Reno, Nevada. I have lived in Southern California (Los Angeles county and San Bernardino county). Take the same precautions with your rosin as you do with your violin or viola and your bow, and I cannot imagine you would have any problems.
Question: Why does it say 21 pounds
Answer: On other sites, the weight of the same product is not listed or the shipping weight is far less than 21 ounces. 0.21 pounds is equal to 3.36 ounces.
Question: How do you apply the rosin
Answer: Just like normal. You hold the rosin cake and cloth in one hand and bownin the other
Question: I purchased this rosin and I'm finding that contrary to all the reviews it produces a LOT of dust. What am I doing wrong
Answer: Like with all good quality rosin, it is important to use only the strict minimum on your bow. If it produces too much dust, it is because you are applying too much rosin on the hair of your bow.

User questions & answers

Question: its good for synthetic strings
Answer: This rosin is good for all kind of strings. Including synthetic.
Question: How does the jade l'opera rosin compare to the dark d'addario kaplan artcraft rosin
Answer: To answer my own question... after having used both rosins I personally prefer the Jade. They are both good rosins, but the Jade seems less dusty and provides smoother flow of the bow without being excessively sticky. Personal opinions may vary on this, but having used both, the Jade seems to work a bit better overall. Some folks have tried to use a combination of both. I have experimented with this and found it to work well... a little bit of Kaplan, a little bit of Jade.
Question: Will this turn my bow green
Answer: Someone here has mentioned this, but I've been using this for almost a year and the bow hair is not visibly green at all. It goes on white like any other rosin.
Question: Do you need to use something sharp to break the surface before using it for the first time
Answer: No you don't. Using a sharp object on rosin will cause it to break into pieces and shorten its lifespan. What you do is simply apply the rosin to your bow hair. I find a few full bow strokes over the surface of the rosin is all that is necessary. This particular rosin is Jade green, and over time your bow hair will turn green. Use a washcloth to remove excess rosin from your strings where the bow comes in contact with them. Pinch each string gently with the washcloth between your fingers, and gently clean your strings one at a time. A washcloth can also be used to remove fingerprints from the body of your cello.

User questions & answers

Question: I've noticed this product has sparckles. Are they in they resign? Will it rub off on my bow
Answer: You're referring of course to rosin dust, which yes, this rosin does produce a fair amount of. You may consider some lighter rosins, this particular rosin lays on quite thick and produces a fair amount of dust because of it due to the dark, sticky nature. I'm a dark rosin fan myself, but I do also play with Jade rosin (http://www.amazon.com/Jade-LOpera-Rosin-Violin-Viola/dp/B002Q0WT6U) which is a lighter rosin that doesn't produce quite as much dust. It's a fine rosin, I do prefer the thicker sound of the Hill, but if you're looking to cut down on dust it would be a better choice.Know though that the Jade will produce a fine dust with less dust overall, while the Hill produces a heavier dust, which won't linger in the air as long (but it's a trade off because there's more of it).
Question: Does anyone ship this to Canada
Answer: Well as with all things it depends but if you are asking it will probably last for years. If you are a professional then maybe a year.
Question: Does this rosin actually come in a dark green color
Answer: The box I received the rosin in is totally white with a label. The box I received is not brown, as shown in the Amazon advertisement (as of 01-04-21). Also, the label I received is not exactly like the label currently depicted in the Amazon advertisement. The photo is the same, but the font used is Calibri. The font depicted in the ad looks to be similar to Old English. There is also a bar code, which is not shown.
Question: Is this rosin dustless
Answer: It's medium/dark - a little powdery, but a nice clean sound!
Question: Does this rosin make that smoky look when you put it on your bow and play, because my rosin does and when i breath it in, it is awful
Answer: Hello,The diameter is 1.5" and the rosin is wrapped in a cloth. This is good enough for children.

User questions & answers

Question: How would you rate the stiffness of this bow
Answer: hi the gopro mount on top of the pole couldn't be removed.
Question: Can you send it yo India
Answer: I have not tried it yet. I would not recomend because there are small parts that are made of metal. If you use it in salt water, have to rinse with tap water after use to avoid rust.
Question: How does your carbon fiber bow compare to a Coda brand carbon fiber bow, which is so much more expensive
Answer: The length of S3C is 23.5"-39.5"(can be adjusted), it is combined with one extendable pole( from 12.5" to 28") and one floating pole(12.5").
Question: Is this bow carbond fiber or carbon grahpite? Price indicates carbon graphite, and entirely different product
