11 best guitar equalizers
A guitar equalizer, often referred to as an EQ pedal, is an essential tool for guitarists and bassists. It allows them to shape and adjust the frequency response of their instrument to achieve a desired tonal quality. Here's what you need to know about guitar equalizers:
Function:
- A guitar equalizer is used to control the balance of frequencies (bass, midrange, and treble) in a guitar or bass signal.
Types:
- Graphic Equalizers: These have a set of sliders or knobs that control specific frequency bands. They provide precise control over the tonal spectrum.
- Parametric Equalizers: These allow for more detailed adjustment by providing control over specific frequencies and their bandwidth (Q factor).
Frequency Bands:
- Typically, EQ pedals have sliders or knobs for bass, midrange, and treble frequencies. Graphic equalizers may have several bands to adjust.
Application:
- Tone Shaping: EQ pedals can be used to fine-tune the sound of an instrument, allowing players to emphasize or de-emphasize certain frequencies.
- Feedback Control: They can help in reducing feedback issues by notching out problematic frequencies.
- Matching Different Guitars: EQ can be used to adjust the tone when switching between guitars with different pickup configurations or tonal characteristics.
Placement in Signal Chain:
- EQ pedals can be placed anywhere in the signal chain, depending on the desired effect. Placing it before distortion or overdrive pedals will alter the way those effects respond to different frequencies.
Notch Filters:
- Some EQ pedals have notch filters, which can be used to target and cut out specific problem frequencies that cause feedback or unwanted resonances.
Boost and Cut:
- EQ pedals typically have controls for boosting (increasing) and cutting (decreasing) specific frequency bands. This allows for a wide range of tonal adjustments.
Versatility:
- EQ pedals are used in various musical genres, from rock and metal to jazz and classical. They are versatile tools for achieving specific tonal qualities.
Settings and Presets:
- Some EQ pedals come with preset options, allowing players to quickly switch between different EQ settings for different songs or playing situations.
Power Requirements:
- EQ pedals, like many other guitar effects, may require a power source, either from batteries or an external power supply.
Remember, the use of an EQ pedal is highly subjective and depends on personal taste and the specific requirements of the music being played. It's a powerful tool for tailoring your guitar's tone to suit your preferences and the context of your performance.

Question: | is this buffered |
Answer: | It depends on the settingd |
Question: | One note on my guitar—e 7th fret on the a string—hums and booms super loud when played as a single note. will the boss eq take care of that |
Answer: | The 7th fret of the A string is the note E3. It has a frequency of 164.8 Hz. By reducing the bottom 2 sliders, at 100 and 200 Hz, but probably more attention on the 200 Hz, you can reduce the boominess of that note. However, you will also reduce those frequency components in all other notes played. You may be able to adjust an individual pole of your pickup(s) up or down depending on your particular pickup. Or may be able to adjust the pickup height on the Low E side. Again, such adjustments will impact a whole range of notes. Another option would be to find a pedal with a notch filter (such as a Boss AD-5 or AD-2) and use that to target the specific offending frequency. Best first step - make sure your guitar is properly set up by a luthier and discuss this issue with them prior to setup. |
Question: | What is the production year of this pedal |
Answer: | You are going to get varying answers as this pedal is still in production and there are many sellers. There's no guarantee what year you will get. |
Question: | these days i play exclusively clean, mostly with my fingers. my gear is great, but am looking to remove sibilance from my tone. any opinions |
Answer: | I'm guessing your speaking about playing an acoustic guitar, so that is what I will address... I bought this GE-7 to get rid of some nasty frequencies in the mid range of my acoustic guitar set up. Many piezo - electric pick-ups mounted under the saddle tend to over amplify the high frequencies, (string noise, tininess) and it can be tough to dial it out without adversely effecting your over all tone. Give this pedal a try, the GE-7 is bullet proof, and sounds very musical to the ear. Just start by dropping the 6.4k band by 5 dB or so. Small adjustments can make a huge difference. Experiment, have fun and remember that nobody can really tell what sounds perfect to you, but you. I hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a significant difference between this and the Boss GE 7 for guitar |
Answer: | No, the GEQ-215 is not equipped with an input voltage selector switch. In order for this unit to function in regions with 220V circuitry, a third party step down transformer to 110V AC 60 Hz must be used. |
Question: | does this pedal increase the noise level |
Answer: | Given that it's rack-mountable and runs on 120 VAC, I'd say it's intended use is neither: live sound (club, church...) reinforcement. But it could also be used at home. The form factor, plus the AC requirement would make use in a vehicle difficult! |
Question: | Parent of a bass player, he wants a pedal for looping and distortion. Does this pedal do that |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | does the power supply come with the pedel |
Answer: | Hi, the 50hz knob will affect the sub response. If you have any other questions feel free to contact our tech support at (323)-231-3525 or you can also email us at info@woofersetc.com. Thank You. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I need a pre-amp/tuner equalizer for a yamaha acoustic/electric fsx720sc small body solid top will this work |
Answer: | I have used this pre-amp with very good results. You have to cut on the body side to install the controls and drill a little hole on the bridge to install the piezo wire pickup. I used a video from you tube and there are several that you can follow to do the installation process. Don't be scared, I did it and I'm not a rocket scientist. It works very good, it is sensitive and loud. Just make sure the height of your guitar body is high enough to accommodate the width of the control. Sincerely, Irving from Orlando, FL. |
Question: | How long is the piezo (copper pickup part) in inches |
Answer: | Longer than a standard 6 string guitar bridge saddle slot. But you don't have to put the entire length in the slot, which would still work on a shorter bridge like a ukulele, mandolin, etc. |
Question: | I need a pre-amp/equalizer for a fender bass bg 29. not sure which one i need |
Answer: | The pre-amp JOYO is a good stuff. I own a small one for ukulele. I am not familiar with bigger pre-amps for bass guitar. |

EQ is the most important part of your sound, and often the most overlooked... The often overlooked EQ pedal is one of the most powerful devices that you can place in your rig. But we knew that if we wanted your attention, we’d have to take our time to create an EQ pedal with the player-friendly ease of use and demand for top quality that Wampler strives for every day. Question: | Would this work with a Mustang 1 or Champion 40 and does it come with a cable |
Answer: | Put masking tape down to cut through and prevent scratches 3 & 1/8" x 1 & 5/8' inch (This is the outer most face measurement ) Using a fine kerf coping saw or hack saw blade the hole you need to cut will be 3"x 1 & 1/2" and use your Xacto knife to fit it from there. The body of mine already had a smaller hole and I used the pickup that was glued inside my Fender and soldered a plug onto it to plug it in to the pre amp. It really sounds great. Very big improvment and the built in tuner is great. |

Answer: | Claro que sí, se aplica a cualquier guitarra acústica. |

Answer: | I'm not sure what that is, but have you watched the video that is with the product pictures...or checked out youtube? O_o I use this pedal 98% of the time as I am currently fulfilling the roll of a modern "worship guitarist" at a church, and it is just lovely what it does do. I started off thinking I liked the last effect on it set to the "Big Kahuna" settings, but ended up on the Mod setting with the knobs at the same setting which is somewhere around between 12 and 1 o'clock. -=80) |

Wampler Pedals EQuator
EQ is the most important part of your sound, and often the most overlooked...
The often overlooked EQ pedal is one of the most powerful devices that you can place in your rig. And if the constant demand for one from Wampler fans is any indication, we admit that the introduction of the Wampler EQuator may be a bit overdue. But we knew that if we wanted your attention, we’d have to take our time to create an EQ pedal with the player-friendly ease of use and demand for top quality that Wampler strives for every day. Instead of the learning curve that can accompany individual sliders for each frequency, we gave you fixed bass and treble controls and two semi-parametric mid controls that are as easy to harness as twisting a few knobs. Each knob’s frequencies have been carefully defined (with the sweet spots marked) for the needs of players and to offer one of the most flexible EQ pedals out there.
Whether you’re wanting a fully customizable clean boost, the ability to fine-tune the tone of another pedal, or to just bring out the best in your guitar, bass or any instrument you choose to plug into it - we crafted the Wampler EQuator to be the tonal sweetener you need to get the job done. Even if you don’t use a pedalboard and are not a guitar player - put this between your instrument and the amp, the P.A. or recording interface…the EQuator will bring it to life.
The Pedal for every kind of Musician
With its precise frequency control, ample output, and compact design, there isn’t a musician out there who wouldn’t benefit from adding an EQuator to their rig. Bring up only the mid frequencies you want to help your instrument be alive in the mix, dial back the highs to tame any kind of harshness from the room - you can even completely change the character of your favorite drive pedal. With its sheer versatility, the Wampler EQuator will quickly become your not-so- secret weapon.
Find your Tone, Fast
We designed the EQuator around the needs of the player, refusing to riddle it with too many small sliders or overly complicated switching. Nailing the tone you desire is an intuitive affair that you’ll find invaluable in the heat of a performance. Whether onstage or in the studio, time is at a premium. Get your perfect tone faster with the Wampler EQuator.
Wampler-Quality Construction
Brian Wampler’s attention to detail and commitment to designing the best and most player-friendly products out there are second to none. Those qualities are on full display within The EQuator. From its convenient top-mounted jacks to its impressively low noise floor, The EQuator semi-parametric EQ pedal is every bit a Wampler.
Bass
Active control of 130htz, plus and minus 19db. As always, how this reacts all depends on where you put it in your signal chain. If placed at the end of your chain as a tone shaper, this will react like suddenly putting your amp through a closed back 4x12” cab... A large amount of warmth and thump will appear... It can also give the impression of tightening up the bass when cut to the right amount...When positioned pre-gain, you can start to smash the low end of the tone, giving your overdrives and distortion fuzz characteristics when pushed hard. When pushed in a more subtle way, you can thicken up your tone to sound a little like a D-style amp. Don’t overlook the bass control, find that sweet spot and exploit it fully.
Mid Levels
This is where the majority of your tweaking will take place... when you choose your frequency, these will be places where you can cut or boost. Mid 1 can cut or boost the selected frequency by up to 15db. Mid 2 can cut or boost the selected frequency by up to 25db. As you can imagine, this is a MASSIVE amount to play with, so don’t be shy to slowly bring them in and out to find your sweet spot. We’ll be very surprised if you end up at the extremes of these controls. There are some fun tones hidden when pairing the two levels together with various mid frequencies. It’s all about tweaking and finding those hidden tones.
Mid Freq.
This is where the fun really starts! Mid1 allows you to sweep between 238hz and 5khz. Mid2 ranges from 480hz to 4.8ktz. So, you have a lot of room to choose the places you want to tweak. This isn’t just low and high mids, this is pretty much all of the mids available to you on both. So, where do we go from here... Well, if you are using the EQuator as a tone shaper, you’ll be looking to tame some of the mids, maybe scoop out between 1k and 2.2k, probably closer to 2.2k - that’s your classic mid scoop location and will make any amp give you a little bit of a smiley face feel. When you are using this pre gain, whether that be your amps gain or drive pedals, you’ll want to take note of some of the frequencies highlighted... Mid 1 has a larger Q, while Mid 2 has a more narrow Q, so you have the option to really nail down the style of change you make between the two controls.
Treble
7kz, plus or minus 19db... The location of the sparkle and chime. Now, many amps are known to sparkle and be potentially bright and responsive... On the flip side of that, this is also where certain rooms can cause your ears to ring for days afterwards. By controlling the high end of your signal before it hits the amp, you can bring that shrillness back under control. On the flip side, if you are looking to brighten up your amp a little, here is where to bring it back in. When you stick it before pedals, you can make the pedals that sit behind it react completely differently. You can make that drive cut through a little more, give it a little more brightness and make sure you can be heard without increasing the volume dramatically.
