13 best autoharp tuners
Autoharp tuners are devices designed to assist musicians in tuning their autoharps. The autoharp is a stringed musical instrument that is part of the zither family. It consists of a series of strings stretched across a resonant body with chord bars that, when pressed, dampen specific strings to produce chords. To keep the autoharp sounding its best, regular tuning is essential.
Here are some key points about autoharp tuners:
Tuning Mechanism: Autoharp tuners are specifically designed to help musicians adjust the tension of the autoharp's strings to achieve the correct pitches. These tuners can be manual or electronic.
Manual Tuners: Manual autoharp tuners are often referred to as tuning wrenches or keys. They feature a specialized key or wrench that allows you to turn the tuning pins on the autoharp. By turning the pins, you can tighten or loosen the strings to achieve the desired pitch.
Electronic Tuners: Electronic autoharp tuners are more modern and user-friendly. They use built-in microphones or pickups to detect the pitch of each string and display the results on a digital screen.Musicians can then adjust the strings until they match the target notes displayed on the tuner.
Chromatic vs. Diatonic: Autoharps come in both chromatic and diatonic configurations. Chromatic autoharps can play all the notes in the chromatic scale, while diatonic autoharps are limited to a specific key or set of notes. Tuning a chromatic autoharp requires a tuner that can handle a wide range of notes, while a diatonic autoharp tuner is designed for a more limited set of pitches.
Accuracy: Autoharp tuners are known for their accuracy, making it easier for musicians to achieve precise tuning. Electronic tuners are especially helpful in this regard, as they provide visual feedback in real-time.
Usage: Whether you're a beginner or an experienced autoharp player, a tuner is an essential tool for maintaining the instrument's pitch and ensuring that it sounds harmonious when played with other instruments.
Maintenance: In addition to tuning, autoharp players should also take care of their instruments by keeping them in a stable environment with proper humidity levels to prevent string breakage and maintain tuning stability.
In summary, autoharp tuners are tools that help musicians keep their autoharps in tune, ensuring that the instrument produces accurate and pleasing musical tones. Manual and electronic tuners are available to suit the preferences of different players, and their accuracy makes them invaluable for maintaining the autoharp's pitch.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anybody know if this will work with these specific pins? 12pc. standard zither pins - great for zithers, harps and instruments https://www.amazon |
Answer: | I know it works very well for my auto harp and a small lap harp....it should work fine for standard zither pins. |
Question: | What is the inside diameter of the square hole? I have a lyre with square tuning pegs that are about 4.5 x 4.5mm |
Answer: | Eyeballing with a ruler, it is between 4 & 5 mm each side, I assume that means 4.5mm. I use it for my autoharp, it is not a tight fit for the pegs --which is desirable to "ease into" a very slight tuning. |
Question: | Will this work for a Lyon and Healy troubadour harp |
Answer: | Unlikely. This tuner works for zithers and autoharps, which fit in your lap. I would assume your full size harp has larger tuning pins, requiring a larger tuning hammer. I would check with the manufacturer, Lyon and Healy, their website. Or give them a call! |
Question: | Will this fit a Chromaharp |
Answer: | This will fit standard zither pins. These pins measure 1/4 inch across, or approximately .4 centimeter. Square head. |

Question: | Will this tune a banjo |
Answer: | 4 3/8 " w x 2 7/8" h x 1/2" d |
Question: | Will this tuner stay in the tuning I calibrate it to? E.g. if I set it to 432hz will it remain there each time it's turned off and on |
Answer: | Well, I just bought one and haven’t used it yet but it looks to me like you can tune anything with it. The device merely shows the frequency Of the notes it “hears”. You stilll have to “tune” the instrument to the proper frequency, which you can see on the device. |
Question: | Learning cello 1st position. need a device to show if I'm spot on. Quick response? Attach to bridge? Handles harmonics accurately |
Answer: | Yes, you can plug your electric guitar directly into this tuner without an amp and tune it. The input on the right side is used for this. |
Question: | Can I easily calibrate this to 432 Hz |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | How accurate is this for vocal tuning |
Answer: | You can adjust the calibration on the frequency to some degree but not nearly enough to accomplish what you want which is one whole tone. This is the problem you will encounter with any standard electronic tuner. About the most any of them can be adjusted is less than a half tone. |
Question: | Does this have polyrhythms |
Answer: | Yes. It gets pitch from acoustic instruments through it's microphone, electric instruments through it's input. |
Question: | How do I tune my cello? Do i use the violin part? Or does it has a different letter/number |
Answer: | It works with this range. A0 (27.50Hz) - C8 (4186.01Hz): Sine wave |
Question: | Does this metronome have ac/dc capability |
Answer: | Yes, it’s chromatic so it will work. We have found proper placement is key in order for it to register well. Like clipping it to the bridge for example. |

User questions & answers
Question: | The last two sn-8s fell apart w/little use. both axis, on the clip and right under the tuner itself. have you done anything to improve the quality |
Answer: | I don’t really know. The stand is not as sturdy as what I needed and the shelf didn’t hold multiple items. I gave it away and ordered another heavy duty stand |
Question: | Is this a chromatic tuner. I want to tune all strings down a half step starting with the sixth string to E flat. Will this tuner do that |
Answer: | I assume you're asking about the included instrument holder. It's possible, but it seems like a viola might be a bit to heavy for it, so I haven't tried using it for anything larger than a soprano ukulele or 3/4 size violin, and it works fine for that. The stand I've been using for years for my viola is made by Ingles, and I recommend using that for heavier or more valuable instruments. |
Question: | Is this for All instruments? Im a trumpet player, and id like a clip on tuner to clip to my bell or the stand so i can always moniter my tuning |
Answer: | No. It will not hold a ukulele. I just received mine going to be able to do just that, but no, it will not. |
Question: | Does this tuner offer A |
Answer: | When pulled all the way up, it measures about 54 inches to the hinge on the back which connects to the platform. From there your height will be a bit lower as the base of the platform is lower. I would estimate about 52 inches as the maximum height measuring from the floor to the base of the platform. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can 440 be changed to 432 as the A note |
Answer: | No. I verified with the manufacturer it can only produce a single rhythm at a time. |
Question: | How do you replace the battery |
Answer: | After you power the device on, press the mode button so you are in "Pitch" mode. I believe the default pitch you will get is an A at 440. You can use that pitch to tune your cello - just tune the A-string to that pitch. If it doesn't come up with a A, you can turn the wheel and as you do, it changes the pitch. You can turn it to each pitch of the 4 cellos strings, A, D, G & C. Just make sure you don't tune to a sharp or flat, just the straight pitch. |
Question: | Does this tuner work well for an electric bass? 4 or 5 string |
Answer: | If your question is related to operating power, it requires 2 AAA batteries. Without modification, there is no capability to apply external power. |
Question: | Does the tuner include an input cord |
Answer: | When I use Korg Tuners in a noisy environment I find I have to use the contact microphone. It can't hear me. But I play string bass in an orchestra. Your experience may be different. |

Question: | Would this work for a 19 string pixie harp? The pegs are about 4mm or about 5/32". A little smaller than someone said 3/16" was standard |
Answer: | I don't know. It works on most brands of auto harps because the pegs for the strings are alike on most of them. So I would assume it works. |
Question: | Does this tuner work on the first act mg901 lap harp |
Answer: | Do the tuning pegs have a squarish roundish shape? Like tuning pegs on a piano but much smaller? I'm pretty sure all autoharps have the same kind of pegs and this one should work. I say go for it. Get a 25$ purchase and shippings free for that item, kinda cool. |
Question: | WILL THIS TUNE A 1959 Oscar Schmidt auto harp |
Answer: | the opening size is ABOUT 5/16" to 3/8" square....i just took a chance and bought the tuner for my unknown brand autoharp...and it fit! |
Question: | What is the opening size exactly? My music maker has square pins that measure 0.165" and I know that some of the wrenches out there will not work |
Answer: | It is 3/16" square and fits .198 tuning pin. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the tuning be changed or is it set only to |
Answer: | No, the distance between the inner section of the rubber pieces when fully open is less than that. Anything over 3/4" is probably too thick. |
Question: | how wide does clip open? I need it to open 1.5" + to attach to autoharp |
Answer: | The guitar setting is intended for the notes of the open strings only so each string is numbered 1-6. Chromatic setting reads any note on the fretboard. |
Question: | For some reason the Chromatic Setting reads the correct notes on my guitar down my fretboard, but the guitar setting doesn't. Can someone tell me why |
Answer: | Yes it does work on a 4 string bass. |
Question: | Does it work with bass guitar |
Answer: | I don't know what a pixie harp is. But when trying to tune my autoharp, the metal end that fits over the string peg split. I found it to be a piece of junk! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How well does this work for a bass guitar? I've got a Snark that doesn't register well on my Fender Jazz bass |
Answer: | I wouldn't trust it to hold anything more than a couple of pounds. |
Question: | How can this work with any guitar case? It wouldn’t sit in there safely whatsoever. Very impractical |
Answer: | Sturdy enough to hold sheet music or an instruction book or tablet. |
Question: | Could i use this for intonation |
Answer: | No |
Question: | If I change the pitch to 432Hz, will it reset to 440Hz if I turn it off and back on |
Answer: | I use it for a Mandolin, so can't say for sure, but the width of the instrument's neck at the nut should be 1-1/8" or less, and the headstock should be wider than 1-1/8". If the neck fits in the opening OK you might need to suspend a dulcimer with the strings towards the stand because the top of the body behind the neck might interfere if you suspend it with strings facing out. The height of the instrument hanger is adjustable. |
